Thread question: What was your first experience of Call of Cthulhu like? How did you first get into it?
Actually I played Trail of Cthulhu first, which I guess is kind of odd considering that of the two already fairly sidestream systems, it's the less known.
Nothing really spectacular, played a near-homeless detective drowning in late child support payments and demands for alimony three months overdue looking into a suspicious death with glaring breaches of police conduct that the coroner had been way too quick to rule an accident and 1PP was way too eager to forget.
Game fell apart just around the time the party had started to come up on solid leads because the GM just kinda vanished. Guess he went on vacation to Sarnath.

My first experience was just when I decided to get into tabletop RPGs. I searched the net for an RPG that interested me and wasn't too difficult and I settled on CoC since I liked the setting, Lovecraft and everything. It was a good first session and it's been fun playing it since.
First Cthulhu game I played was CthulhuTech. Not recommended. But it (and the Arkham Horror board game) helped light the already sparking flame of interest in all things lovecraftian, to the point where I now even wrote my own system! Well...okay, I expanded and modified someone else's system. Just look up "Cthulhu Grim" on RPGGeek.
>god of plague, death, and decay
>could've made him a brooding hatred-esque edgelord who gets off on killing and sees life as a disease
>instead made him a jovial and kindspirited deity who views death as both merciful and the only means by which things can be reborn
>wants to see humanity strengthen and enlighten by surviving in the face of adversity
>doesn't like torture, torment, or suffering unlike his chaos god counterparts
>his greatest demon doesn't kill for fun or act dark and evil, it laughs and jumps around and thinks it's spreading happiness to everyone it meets
Praise the Emperor, but can we all take a minute to appreciate how good Nurgle is and how horrible he could've been in the hands of shit(tier) writers?
We could, but that would be HERESY
>>51483651
The existence of the Emperor is heresy. He's an Atheist but his people worship him.
>>51483574
>doesn't like torture, torment, or suffering
yes he does
Read Liber Chaotica Nurgle. He loves spreading gifts and warped kindness to his followers, but he also loves watching them suffer and break (mentally) under his gifts. One of his primary domains is despair, and most of his followers only go to him out of absolute fear of death.
>small army gets teleported to pic rel
>Starting amount of soldiers and supplies is random
>Have to manage troops and supplies while dealing with random encounters moving up
What's the best system for running a game like this and what other stuff could I add?
I would use praedor but its in finnish
Planescape.

Those Elves are sexy and cute at the same time! How does that man do it?
Question for y'all: why do we not see as much Medium, Spiritualist, Mesmerist, or Occultist homebrew as we do Kineticist? All those other classes are also pretty ripe for brewing and could end up pretty neat
We were on page 7, you dolt.
So in the new commander the card Reverse the Sands trades life totals with player and adds one life. Can this effect bring a player who is at zero life back into gamestate?
>>51482242
Losing the game is a state-based action, there's no possible way you could get this spell off, even if you could make it instant, as a response to reaching a life total of 0.
The only way you could kill someone with this care would be if you had an effect that prevented you from losing the game, such as Platinum Angel.
>>51482336
Ok, but if in a multiplayer game if another player is at zero life will it bring him back?
how deep is the lore of your setting /tg/?
>>51480641
This.
Unity Duty Destiny as a creed.
A would-be god who planned his eventual demise and counteracted it.
Masks which if destroyed would affect all of reality.
Said storyline is within the time-span of 100,000 years.
Grimdark elements such as:
People getting sliced in half.
People mutating themselves to serve their real god.
Another god who went rogue and started enslaving people.
A mask which cursed a god with eternal life and all other things in close proximity would become alive... cursed to hear the thoughts of even the smallest bacteria.
All makuta purged their inner morality and mutated their bodies into horrible creature forms.
Said real god is their entire universe and if they fail he dies.
They save him of course.
And then it goes full gurren lagan.
I just told you the silmarillion parts.
Here is the link about said god.
https://youtu.be/9SgQAUBglJE
It also has kaitas which are like fusions but practical.
This entity was formed between takanuva and makuta.
Takanuva is the toa of light and thus required to "light the path".
Makuta wants it to remain his domain...
Shadow.
Via life giving fluid (Protodermis) every thing in the bionicle universe is made of it.
Energized protodermis being the most powerful but dangerous.
Said being is controlled by takanuva until it is crushed.
Said beings spit apart leaving makutas mask on one side and takanuvas on the other.
Takanuva is of course resurrected.
Makuta as well but during the inika storyline.
Makuta teridax hijacks the great spirit robot
(40 million ft.)
And sends the mask of life (Now containing mata nui himself) to bara magna.

When's the last time you fought a monster from mythology, like a manticore or a chimera?
Repost from Last Thread,
Whats the best non-magical solution to a theft alarm on a PC's belt pouch? I'm looking for a way to entice my party's rogue into stealing my coins, but I don't want him to get away with it.

There isn't. Which is (part of) the problem
In magic we've got legendary creatures, artifacts, enchantments, and even lands.
What would something like a legendary instant look like? Would it be possible?
It's possible. It just wouldn't do shit. Legendary literally only matters on permanents
>>51477085
You could slap it on but the problem and questions become how does being legendary affect the spell. Can there only be one legendary spell on the stack? If you cast a legendary instant and try to respond to it with another legendary instant does it counter one of the instants because of the legendary rule? That doesn't really make a lot of sense and would just cause unnecessary headaches.
Basically >>51478770
>>51477085
Stack interaction. You couldn't have more than one copy on the stack at once.

Are they this desperate to be relevant?
I honestly can't tell if this is trolling or stupidity anymore.
>>51475317
They're not desperate, idiots are giving them free advertising.
>>51475317
That's what, thread number six on this topic, just this morning? I guess they must be relevant, with how much they're triggering the 40tards into giving them attention today.
>>51475317
PETA's been a fucking joke since their inception. Remember when they stopped trying to get people to stop eating lobsters? IIRC several groups bought mass amounts of saltwater lobsters, only to release them in freshwater rivers.
How would people react if suddently we found out that merfolk are real? They're reluctant to communicate for some reason, and normally act aggresivelly; but show signs of intelligence (they appear to have finelly crafted weapons and gear). An underwater civilization is very likely to exists due to some recovered art pieces.
Bonus track: How would history have changed if, let's say, Marco Polo had made first contact with them instead of just going to china?
The better question is can we fuck the fish?
>>51474690
There will be some people who want to study them since biological and cultural differences are amusing and will be cataloged.
The military will rethink naval warfare since merfolk now hold a stupid advantage underwater.
Businesses will want to exploit them for a profit somehow, they'll figure it out.
Some groups will want to uplift them closer to our tech level, probably the companies who can now drill deeper for oil and the like since there's undersea people who can build and maintain the pipes without expensive diving equipment
And then there's everything that comes along with thoughts like >>51474715 including porn, magazines, studies, and people going to the beach to fuck the fishgirls/boys.
Well I for one would never go in the water again

>Play D&D for years with best friend
>He has been there with me through thick and thin
>He's That Guy
It's so bad that he refused to even name his character or even speak during town RP. His purpose is to turn into an animal and kill everything when combat starts.
It's not too late to fix him. Try showing him what fun it can be to RP a dynamic character.
>>51462940
>be playing in steady group of bro's

>when he isn't bitching he's missing sessions because muh football
>eventually becomes convinced I'm just trying to fuck him because I want to look cool in front of my other friends
>this is one of the factors in basically ending this friendship
When he said that his previous DM used to fuck him over, that should have been a red flag. I've never seen the amount of salt this guy brings to the fucking game, holy shit.
Sounds like a standard drood to me. Not used to human society, much more at ease killing everything as a bear.
