Whats the current fluff like on the crons? Do they have personalities or something now? Wanna build an adversarial army so im thinking about necrons alongside chaos/orks/genestealer cult.

Necrons are neutral to the imperium now. At least the one that tried helping them defend cadia
>>

They are as adversarial as your individual dynasty, phaeron or overlord. The amount of intelligence and individuality scales up with their social rank and how armoured/cool their body is apparently, so you can have an overlord who wants to purge the humans from their old empire as much as

So tg, how do you do a singing villain when you're doing a campaign? Would it be better to write out some OC song lyrics to use in his encounters or just make bits of a poem to use? Literally singing to players? What can you do to give this kind of character charm both in and out of the game? Entertaining to players and delightful to characters? Pic related in bbeg form, basically.

I'm gonna be GMing Shadowrun in a few days, but I have very little experience with both Shadowrun and GMing in general, so I could use some tips in both of those, as well as anything that makes any cyberpunk setting feel more cyberpunk to my players.

Also, I only have 3 players, should I look for a 4th one at least or do I keep it at 3 and either introduce NPCs to help along the way or tone down the difficulty?

Oh boy, where to start...

Three players is fine. You should just be sure to note what the group can and can't do and tailor your missions accordingly. Johnsons won't hire the wrong talent for a job and you shouldn't let then.

The best ways to make things feel cyberpunk is to play up disparity between the haves and the have-nots, make your characters feel like they are on the outside of civilization and drive home how fragile the illusion of utopia is within the richer districts. Also, ambient music and a slow introduction to the magic and technology of the sixth world through play helps too.

Okay. Now let me enphasize that Shadowrun 5e is not a newbie friendly game for Players or GMs (which I assume you are playing since you didn't mention an edition but the same is true for all editions more or less). There are tons of rules and sub systems and the books are horribly edited and you will need to understand the core book cover to cover to GM properly. You can streamline this a bit by not allowing Deckers, Riggers, or Technomancers in your first few sessions since they all come with extra complicates rules.

I highly recommend you check the links in the OP of the Shadow Run General that is always up on this board. If you have questions about the system the people there are always happy to help you try to interpret the clusterfuck that is the rule books.

This is a link to the current Shadowrun General /srg/.

If you have any further questions about the system you can easily find answers there.

If you have further questions about cyberpunk or GMing in general feel free to post them here and I will answer them to the best of my ability with whatever other help the board can offer.

>GMing Shadowrun in a few days, but I have very little experience with both Shadowrun and GMing in general

Oh you poor bastard. You audacious fool, you.

First piece of advice for Shadowrun: never look anything up yourself. If your players really care what the official rule is, invite THEM to look it up. In the mean time, make a ruling and live with it.

Second: When in doubt, assign a difficulty and ask the player to roll. If you're not sure what that difficulty should be, remember that you get an average of 1 success per 3 dice, you need more successes than the difficulty to win the dice roll. Mr "I read the character creation chapter, I roll 12 dice for Firearms, I am the best" expects difficult shots to be against difficulty 3. Mr "I read the forums, I roll 24 dice for Firearms, I am pretty good but not as good as the Red Samurai" expects difficult shots to be difficulty 7+. Calibrate your narration and difficulties accordingly.

Third: Make sure your players know that Edge is extremely good. Especially the sort of player who doesn't like their character to look foolish, that guy needs Edge before he needs skill points. PC Edge helps you as well, because it lets you get the challenge rating wrong and not kill your party.

Fourth: Run Splintered State. It's really good. Takes complete newbies and makes them into Shadowrunners. My party started by alienating the Johnson, picking a pointless fight with a street gang, and overthinking "walk into the room, take the thing, leave" into an entire session. They ended the module by infiltrating a megacorp skyscraper, accomplishing all their objectives, and exfiltrating without anyone raising an alarm. Barrels of fun.

Rufford Dancer had always been a loud type, not that he didn't know how to keep his mouth shut when he needed to. The youngest child from a poor family, his many talents he put to work on the street. A pickpocket or burglar some days, but in good times times a juggler, carpenter, sword-swallower, duelist, gambler and professional dare-taker. While he had never known opulence, his life in the city certainly would've been livable enough, but Rufford wanted more. He lusted after the genius of the character actor and the soul of the playwright; and he wanted to share the glory of those skills with everyone he could, but it seemed that is was not to be. Until one day, a brightly-painted wagon rolled into town, promising a show. It's owner was a man who introduced himself as Dr. Farwen, who with glittering arrays of masks, contraptions, props and backgrounds wove a fevered tale of love, fury and death, anguish and resolve, gods, ghosts and mortals; It was more of an enchantment than a performance, but it began to flag in the third act, and Rufford even detected a plot hole. Furious, he sprung to his feet and accused Dr. Farwen of doing wrong by his first two acts; only for the doctor to introduce Rufford as a new character whose introduction filled the hole, shed new light on the first two acts and took the story in an exciting, unexpected new direction. The one man show then doubled its cast, and by the end the doctor asked Rufford if he wanted to join the show on it's travels, and so Rufford began his life as an actor, bodyguard, set-builder, tailor and promoter.

Alonzo Guerra, initially, had no intention of becoming a warrior of any sort. He was a man of taste. A man of poshness, raised in high society and wanting for absolutely nothing. His family was just as equally surprised as him when he ended up killing Reynauld Bergenni, the next-in-line as the head of the Bergenni Trading Company. It had started out as a simple argument over chess and ended with Reynauld's skull bashed in with a stool.

Of course, he'd never MEANT to kill him, but that didn't change the fact that there was a corpse, and not just a commoner's corpse, but the corpse of the son of one of the most powerful mercantile lines in the whole of Salgria. So the punishment for Alonzo was intended to be execution. But of course his parents wouldn't settle for that.

Sent away in the night, Alonzo was quietly exiled from Salgria, being sent to live with the retired captain of the guard, Hafner. What ensued was training of the body and the mind. Hafner would not have some limp-wristed layabout to be kept under constant watch at his cabin. He would train him to make something of himself, and in the best profession he knew of: that of a warrior.

Fast forward five years, and Alonzo Guerra has made a surprising name for himself, although now he is known primarily as The Iron Comet, after a daring (and admittedly foolhardy) victory acquired by launching himself from a catapult into the quarters of a rival mercenary company's leader.

Can "comprehend languages" be used to understand a encoded message?

So one of the people in our campaign was playing a wizard that was constantly taking diligent notes of everything of note that happened in the campaign. Essentially this was his excuse for not having to make a check to remember minute pieces of information.

In order to protect the information, he had actually written the journal in common, but used a combination of dwarven and draconic runes. As a bonus, he used prestidigitation to scramble the message in a Caesar cypher.

Because our characters have become pretty important people, we were having concerns that some rouge could obtain pretty damaging information simply by casting a comprehend languages spell to understand the message.

Is this a legitimate concern? Pic unrelated.

I am running a campaign involving ironic memetastic gommunism. Soon, magic will be discovered by the proletariat.

The general theme of said magic system is the "unity of opposites" embodied in Marxist dialectic. In-universe, it is the most powerful form of magic, because it can make abstract ideals and concepts that otherwise oppose each other be the same - freedom can become slavery and slavery can become freedom. Unfortunately, it drives a lot of people mad when they attempt to use it and are unworthy and it reduces them to fanatical communist messes.

What other lore should I add to this?
