I liked how it was about Your Dudes and the stories were about randoms before 5e/6e forward turned the entire setting into Herohammer; which has gotten exponentially worse with recent campaigns

A dark spirit appears.jpg

One day, you and your party decided to depart from Guangshi Province to Xian-zhou Province, where there is a temple you know of. It was a rainy afternoon when you set out, and when you came to the bridge leading into Xian-zhou you found the path blocked by a strange figure. You were certain a dark spirit appeared before you. What did you do, /tg/?

Seeing that this is based in ancient China, I laugh at the dark spirit and engage in honorable one on one fight against it. I will defeat the being and then laugh loudly while stroking my beard.

I shoot with my Portuguese gun like the barbarian fuck I am.

The first hero, full of bluster, chose to challenge the spirit. The hero charged it, landing one stroke and proudly touching his beard. But the spirit seemed unphased, and cut from the hero his beard.

>>51560107
Then the second hero, a visitor from a far away land, came up, and used his strange powder wand against the spirit. The wand had no effect, and the spirit grinned in silence.

How do you like your Dragons /tg/? Do you like them to follow the archetypal western or eastern design? Or do you like them to be uniquely designed for your setting.
12 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
'Western' design, since I like people to immerse themselves in my fantasy.

Big ass reptiles, basically.
>>
I enjoy the spectrum.

For traditional western fantasy, traditional western dragons fit best, although variations can be fun if you're globetrotting/planehopping.

Super weird dragons tend to work best from weird outer planes or if you're doing something odd, like JRPG-esque science fantasy world.

I'd love to have a thread about skill toys. Yoyos, diabolos, begleri, hoops, cardistry, etc. I know the name seems more like it'd fit better on >>>/toy/ but hear me out.

First, both cards and dice can be used as skill toys, and cards and dice are about as "traditional games" as it gets.

Second, a good number of skill toys are just dexterity games which, once an individual masters the game itself, he or she can then expand upon and do cool tricks (Kendama, for example).

Third, things like baton twirling, contact juggling, and so on, are not only incredibly traditional forms of entertainment (to the performer and the audience) but many of them are medieval and so it makes sense to discuss them on here in the same way /tg/ sometimes has threads about medieval weapons.

Fourth (and finally), /toy/ is honestly more about collectable figures than about toys meant to be played with.

Personally, I have a couple of looping yoyos I'm terrible with and intend to sell, and I'm looking into getting some hand sacks and possibly making or buying a begleri or two.

For clarity:

>Dislike
Everyone has to be one the EXACT same page regarding what kind of game you are playing or it falls apart.
Everyone needs to be creative with their powers/stats/SFXs because repeated rolls are boring as hell.

>Like
It is 100% all about emulating American comic book style. From the vague power levels to things working or not working as the plot requires, it is about simulating a comic book not simulating super powered adventurers.
The character creation is open-ended as you can get. Want to shapeshift? Have a stand? Be invulnerable? Mentally control origami? It's all there and how you use it in the rolls. You have to create your limits as well as your powers, which can prompt some interesting thought during the process without tying it down with "You need this many demerits to have this many bonuses" stuff that I don't like about other systems.

GM has to restrict players options for heroes or you end up with a mega hero in a party of street level people.
magic trumps everything, every time. its like someone very smart made a system then kevin slammed down his ultra powerful self insert with an everything proof shield and a solution to everything.

>like
has random charts for everything, powers, category, background, education, if you have a car. random powers are incredible because it FORCES players to think creatively with what they have and use something they didnt plan for.
combat sounds clunky at first then it feels really intuitive and allows for a HUGE number of possiblities, it FEELS like heroes battling and not just some guys standing around punching people and shooting lasers.
>>
>>51558021
friend used this to run a game called "marvel true self". we all played ourselves, statted out by the GM and our characters only had what we had in our car or pockets.we got our powers from stressful events and they where random.
one guy DEMANDED he be allowed to have all this camping gear that we all knew he didnt have so he got on his bike and rode like 13 miles to a sporting goods store, bought everything he thought he needed and rode back. he showed the GM everything he had on him with the price tags still on it and the GM still said no. donnie was kinda a nut job.

How's your current campaign going?

It doesn't matter what system or setting. Tell me the ongoing story and how things seem to be going from your perspective as a player or Game Master.

I've got a good campaign going, but we're only able to play once a week, for a couple hours. I prepared WAY too much material, and now I've essentially got a campaign that can last years, at this rate. (They've been playing for 6 sessions now, and they've only covered 3 pages of material. I have almost 400 pages. So I'm set for a lifetime.) We'll probably get tired of it waaaay before the campaign ends.)

>How's your current campaign going?
Well a few sessions ago my group sat down and we decided just to take 20 minutes to discuss things we liked and disliked about the game, things we'd like to see in the future, that sort of thing. We came to a general consensus on what sort of campaign we wanted it to be (I'd been sensing some tension in this regard, hence the talk) and the few sessions since then have been a noticeable improvement.

I've never run/played an evil campaign. What are they like?

Do they usually end up playable? Cerebral manipulation of events and NPC to suit your own desire to accumulate power. Competing, in a manner, against your party members.

Do they end up turning into a war game where constant random violence and murder is briefly interrupted by short bouts of RP. Usually involving punching things and threatening people?

Do they go really dark. Like some people wouldn't be able to handle what's going on and players find themselves having to question their own morality over some of the things they come up with?

Do they delve deep into magical realms or edgefest?

Do they do all of the above, with different players trying to take the game in every other direction, resulting in a riotous good time/falling out?

ITT: Describe your EVIL campaign
