His rulebooks for fantasy battle were actually really good. I can't see how you could find flaw in it, they were some of the best ones ever published by games workshop.

The spiritual liege fluff actually makes a lot of sense. Why wouldn't the rest of the marines look up to the ultragood ultradevoted ultramartyr (ultramarine lol) primarch? Not only does it make sense, it's actually really good fluff. It adds a lot to the importance of the ultramarines and gives a sense of unity among the various chapters (who otherwise have no connection other than all fighting for the Emperor.)

Honestly he gets a lot of hate, and not everything he's put out is perfect, but I think he's contributed a lot to the game and really doesn't deserve the hate he gets

I agree. Hating Matt Ward is honestly nothing more than a meme, I think most people here have actually appreciated his work and don't really hate him. It's too bad, it must suck getting so much meme hate from the community you've contributed so much to.

What's the name of that feeling when you give your nephew "who likes D&D" over 2000 miniatures and a huge cache of adventures and box sets from across 3 decades of the game... but he never even cracks open a single adventure and just throws the entire lot into the basement where it mildews for a few months... and then his mother tosses it all in a trash bag and drops it off at the local Goodwill because "he's not interested in that sort of stuff anymore"?

Oh, right. Depression. Deep, deep depression.

How old was the nephew? You've honestly no one to blame but yourself either way. Kids and teenagers interests can change so fast by the time the mom even said the words "D&D" they've probably moved on to a new hobby.

What are some reasons to the existence of dungeons?
Like I get they might be temples/mines/castles/etc, but how do you justify the elaborate traps of the average funhouse? Like who would live/work on a place full of bladed pendulums handing from the ceiling, for example?
Also, how do you guys like your dungeons?
Mazes? Traps? Puzzles? Places with reasonable layouts? Whatver works/is cool to play on?

In one of my games the gods had built numerous underground bunkers to protect their non-combat worshipers from an imminent war of the gods. Unfortunately all sides had been wiped out in the war so most of the bunkers became very elaborately defended tombs.

Add in a bunch of scavenging PCs desperate to survive and you got yourself a dungeon crawl.
>>
>>51653032
>Also, how do you guys like your dungeons?

Realistic representation of in-universe locations based on sourcebooks and reasonable extrapolation.

I generally don't do the assault course type dungeon, unless for some reason there happened to be one. I did do a trap-filled tomb once, since trapped mausoleums/catacombs full of valuable grave goods are actually credible.
>>
>>51653032
Maybe a bunch of successful hobgoblins got their slaves to make a castle. Maybe they have since died and a group of monsters moved in.
Maybe a lich used skeletons to dig/build a tomb - he probably wouldn't worry about traps, knowing where they are and not leaving too often.
Maybe a human ruler had a LOT of wealth and wanted to be buried with it, making deathtraps to deter grave-robbers.
Maybe a death cult set up a temple where surviving the myriad traps meant becoming a high priest, to say nothing of the privacy it gives. It's just so awkward having adventurers burst in when you've JUST started making a sacrifice.
See also: Spooky's House of Jump Scares - one or more spirits want to make more undead. "Hey, that haunted mansion up there? TOTALLY filled with loot." *One day later* "Surprise! Death traps and monsters!"

I never understood how people shell out for stuff like cards and minis.
>>
>>51652869
This is actually why people are saying MTG will die in 2017. It's not entirely true, but it's very much becoming a Hobbyist's game.

Take a look at set release threads and 40k Model/codex announcements. You'll see a lot of similar attitudes and technical terms used.

What might be better for you is to find a Deckbuilding game, where card power isn't linked to card rarity/cost. You simply buy the main game and any expansions, both players use the same pool of cards, and the game is played from there.

I'm actually looking for something similar to MTG in terms of a combat/war focus, but so far no luck.

So I just had my first ever DnD session a few days ago - all of us, DM included, are first timers - and I've got the itch. I had a blast, and I'm desperate to play some more, but I can't wait the whole two weeks before we get together again!

Is there any DnD-esque quick fix I can get between then and now?

If you've got downtime in game, why not play out your characters via E-mail? Use that E-mail time to flesh out the towns you're in, or maybe have a mini adventure in the tavern- like I don't know have a dart throwing contest, a drinking contest, a bard contest. I don't know.

It's what I would do in those situations. Check with your other players and see if they're game for it too though.

I only have PoE with no expansions yet. been putting it off forever. should I get down to it?

whats a fun class? I can't stand slogs anymore.
>>
>>51652251
The expansions are the best part, consider at least pirating them.

Monks can be fun after the initial few levels, kicking people across the screen, a tank-focused paladin with high mental stats lets you get most of the dialogue checks while still being powerful in combat, ciphers have some unique ways to solve some of the quests but that can mostly be done by the cipher NPC if you bring her with you.

After the early game you get access to an NPC of every class except rogue, barbarian and monk, so it's not really a big deal to make your main character a simple class because you can always just bring a party full of casters to give you lots of active abilities and spells. You get the last 3 classes in the expansion, or not all without it, though you can make NPCs of any class at an inn, they just won't talk or have a personality.

Part of desolation and decay is sense of foreboding, of not knowing necessarily what happened. Maybe academically you know why, but the city offers details of the how.

Imagine the last days of a city dweller, and what they did. Did they flee? or did they hunker down in place? Did a stuffed animal wind up somewhere unique, and now it is decayed almost beyond recognition? Did rats knock it over or chew on it? You have got to imagine the decay for yourself, the process, the samsara, and pluck details from that.

Or you cop details from ruinporn pics while listening to dark ambient.

Idk, but I'd recommend reading the first 50 or so pages of The Sorcerer's Nephew if you're looking for inspiration, I remember the empty city in a dying world that appears there to be pretty haunting

Imperial Guard need an update, yet it's very hard to get the balance right when they're just dudes in space rather than anything super fanciful.

What do you think needs to be done to make guard competitive in today's meta? The obvious thing to do is point reduction but guard players have to bring (and buy!) so much plastic already.

So, would some one who never gets sick be blessed or cursed by Nurgle?

I never, and I mean NEVER, get anything - I can count on both hands all the times I've ever been sick since I was like 4 or 5. I've had strep throat once, I don't really even remember what it was like.

And it's not like I'm a clean person either, or that I stay inside all day away from sick people.

My sister gets sick all the fucking time, though, and both my parents get sick normally, so it's not my family's genetics.

Do I thank Isha?
