Give me one valid reason why Charisma is a stat in a roleplaying game where the players are meant to roleplay as their characters.
Don't mind me, I'm just here to watch.
>>51672686
It determines the way NPCs react to your character, how many followers they can have, and is a general measure of their personal magnetism which can guide roleplay.
Remember, good roleplay reflects the abilities of the character, it shouldn't supersede them. A good roleplayer can portray a really unlikable, low charisma character as well as they can the opposite.
Bard spells.
Can someone from 2nd ed tell me what the squad leader is, why he has a banner?

Newfag looking to get into W40k. I've read up on some of the Codices and feel like the Imperial Guard is really my style. I'd like to hear from some more experienced players on a decent, all-around army makeup that would let me handle a variety of situations against a variety of opponents.

>all-around army makeup that would let me handle a variety of situations against a variety of opponents.
then ig is not your style
first you have to decide, do I want to play to win or do I want to play because i like the models and the fluff?
IG are severely outclassed by other factions rn, their infantry is utter shit and their vehicles are easy to destroy
I once wiped out an entire squad of over 10 ig before with a single 50 point librarian using phycic shriek than charging them.
If you do not care that you will loose most matches, and you care more about the fluff then go with whatever makes you happiest, but YOU WILL NOT WIN WITH IG against any serious player.
>>51671975
Can confirm.
>>51671900
I got back into the game in 7th after being a king in 5th. IG blow fat loads now. You will lose a lot. Every bat rep online that has Guard playing pretty much lose 95% of the time.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind.
Sup /tg/,
About a week ago I posted my custom chapter here to get feedback. I got a lot of awesome lore and ways to make it fit into 40k better, here is my second revision.
Unbowed Helms (21st Founding, formerly fleet-based)
Battle cry: "We live! We die! We live again!"
Don't know founding chapter, think it's Fists because of their tendency to get wiped out, or Raven because of their pragmatism (they're really Ultramarines)
Were nearly wiped out in a battle against the Nids in M41.2, reduced to 150 full Battle-Brothers and 1st, 2nd, 3rd companies wiped out- the seventh time a disaster of this magnitude had happened in their history
Geneseed flaw slowed hypno-conditioning, so they couldn't replenish losses quickly
Almost all relics lost, with exception of one Contemptor Dread, Ancient Arak, and all the power armor they had left was mainly MkVI
Their former 7th Company commander became Chapter Master, made several changes to chapter structure to compensate
He installed a Chapter Counsel to help him lead, as he was relatively inexperienced for the job
They would focus on bolter drills and stealth to make use of what equipment they had left, become self-sufficient in learning how to repair their wargear and fleet, and work in tandem with the Imperial Guard to augment their strength
Under his leadership, the Angels became known for their marksmanship, skill at ambush, and spamming Scouts, in addition to a less disciplined demeanor not quite unlike the Space Marine version of a Catachan
>>51671892
Later, the Helms were led to the Maxima system to put down a rebellion circa M41.4
The rebels were well-organized and free of Chaos, while the leaders were guilty of criminal mismanagement and corruption
Instead of crushing the rebellion, they chose to intimidate the governor instead and force a peace settlement
After a brief period of restructuring, Maxima was at peace, with the Chapter Master personally overseeing the rebuilding of their defenses, the establishment of a competent PDF and a network of manufactoriums, and the purging of the incompetents within their ranks
Notable events during Reconstruction include the purging of Orks from one of Maxima's moons, fighting alongside a minor Craftworld to repel an Emperor's Children invasion, repelling a Tau offensive and getting them embroiled in a war with a Night Lords warband, and finding a cache of Pre-Heresy equipment
The Maxima system was also exposed to the existence of Chaos via a massive invasion by the Devouring Eye, a minor CSM empire in the sector (which was incorporated smoothly into local religious doctrine as a sort of Satan-like force)
Though stealthy long range fighting was still their forte, the Helms would branch out into multiple different types of warfare, using different chapter tactics as the situation warranted, and awarding the Pre-Heresy equipment as battle honors
They also reached out to Space Marine chapters in adjacent systems, fighting alongside the Rust Angels, Aquamarines and the Warp Specters in multiple campaigns
>>51671928
However, several Inquisitors accused them of heresy- their truce with the Eldar, not pursuing a campaign of genocide against the Tau, their empire-building with their Marine allies, their refusal to suppress Chaos's existence, and their willingness to treat with rebels being evidence against them
Only the intervention of some of their other Inquisitor allies prevented the Minotaurs showing up at their doorstep, but they were sent off planet on a penitent crusade, directly in the path of Abaddon
Out of despair and faced with the prospect of leaving Maxima unguarded, large portions of the 7th and 10th companies fall to Nurgle, but are promptly purged by their colleagues
To make matters worse, a splinter of Hive Fleet Behemoth targets Maxima, and though the sector remains strong, it is unclear when the tide of Tyranids will end and unclear how much longer it can hold out
Though the Helms are hopeful they will be able to return and help their beleaguered people, it is likely they will all die a gruesome death in the battles of the 13th Black Crusade.

Do you guys buy premium playing cards?
>>51671849
You mean marked cards?
>>51671873
No, I just mean more expensive cards with better artwork that last a little longer.
>>51671902
Better artwork on the face or the back?
Have you ever played an older character, /tg/? Ever wanted to? How would you do it?
>>51671280
I've played an older man before. He was from a mining town, began working in his early teens up until his 50's. One day his wife became ill and she wasn't recovering. Her she asked to have her ashes spread at a lake in a distant land. The day she died, my character quit the mines and set off to fulfill her dying wish.
Old characters can be fun. Hard bitten veterans or people past the point of caring, with their best years behind them but the will to go on, to keep trying no matter what.
The few times I've played them I generally end up as the team mom/dad, a caring and protective older figure even if they might be a bit stern, gruff or old fashioned at times.
Yeah, a disgraced defeated hero of sorts. It was a shonen setting so the other characters were kids basically, but they kind of reminded him of his own friends back before they were all beaten or killed together.
Isnt there a untranslated erotic roleplay system created by the japanese. out there. I want to try and translate it what was that called.
Rolled 4 (1d100)
no yes help? maybe i will check four d chan

Rolling for something NOT gay
Hark!
The brazen bells of midnight upon the darkness toll,
But sleep, life's custom agent, won't take from me his dole;
Down paths so many follow, death would my spirit lead,
And death, when all considered, resembles life indeed;
While in my heart the balance does level stand between
And neither to the one, nor to the other lean.Welcome to the Monster's Ball. It always starts at midnight. Enter a name on https://en.shindanmaker.com/497807 and join in! How do I convince an extremely picky and reserved person to come out of her shell and at least TRY a tabletop game, when I know she'd love one if she tried, but she had a completely botched first taste and it will be an ordeal to convince her it's actually fun?
>>51670658
>Hey, so I'm getting together with some friends to play an RPG. I have a lot of fun with these and I would love for you to come.
All you really need to say. She might say no, she might say yes. If she says no, try again later. She just might not be that interested and you shouldn't pester.
>>51670691
We've been playing together with this bunch of folks that she knows and trusts for months now, but she prefers thinking that the rules are too confusing and insisting that she wouldn't know how to play.
>>51670658
>her
You don't. You keep her as fucking far away from your table as fucking possible.
What system allows the greatest amount of Slav in both fluff and mechanics?
Witcher RPG.
And, though I really shouldn't, /thread.
Warhammer 40k 2e.
I bump with character concepts.
You're tasked with translating a large scale cross-continent race into a fantasy setting, how do you set about doing it?
>>51670355
>Wacky racers.
>>51670355
Didn't you try this thread already?
>>51670382I'm pretty desperate to get this idea off the ground with my group.
Kinda hoping I'd get a couple more ideas at a different time.
How much damage should weilding a fish do in 5e?
As someone who threw a fish at an orc in a 5e campaign, 1d4.I got the kill
>>51670159
>>51670159
1d4
If it's big enough, and you don't mind cribbing from 4e, 1d8 for a two-handed fish.
Would this work /tg/ and if so how would the damage be calculated in the game, what creatures could this one shot, and what mathematical formulas could you use to prove it to a disbelieving DM,
>>51669946
Wait, so what's happening? Using a Gate linked to the bottom of the ocean as a weapon?
>>51670425
Exactly, the thinking is that the pressure created a water jet strong enough to punch a hole through the ogre
Water pressure at the bottom of the ocean is enough to reduce steel barrels to tin cans.
Not sure if that translates into water cutters.
>Playing DnD 5E
>The party is tasked with taking down an immense hobgoblin fortress, with several story high wooden walls around it, at least a mile wide
>Igotthis.png
>I go over to the nearest tavern
>Buy 50 bottles of cheap whiskey, keep em in a bag of holding.
>Afterwards I go to a magic shop and manage to find a scroll of invisibility.
>Let's do this.
>We go back to the fort, and through a great deal of luck, manage to sneak up to one of the walls despite rolling single digit stealth rolls, and even failing the arcana roll to use the scroll.
>Start pulling out bottles of whiskey and uncorking them.
>Splash one of the wooden walls with the whiskey like a goddamn modern artist.
>Eventually I use up all of the whiskey completely drenching this wall of logs in the middle of a dry summer day, the wood soaking up the alcohol.
>Light the wall and sneak away, watching from a distance.
>The hobgoblins try to douse the flame, DM rolls, they fail.
>They try again and again, using hillgiants with huge barrels of water, all types of magic, failing the rolls every single time.
>The fire spreads until the entire wall surrounding the place is engulfed in flames, starting to collapse.
>After the devastation, the DM pulls out his calculator and does a few quick rolls.
>Tells me I just killed 158 men.
Alcohol kills.
Also, story thread I suppose.
The question remains. Why didn't anyone else do this before?
>>51669249
In the campaign or in general?
I pulled some similar shenanigans playing a kobold rogue in Pathfinder. Small bandit camp with wooden walls, spiked at the top. One or two of the guards fell off trying to put out the fire and impaled themselves.
For better or for worse, sometimes we, through this hobby of ours, build up feelings with no proper outlet, so I decided to make one, in no small part because I have a fair bit of venting I'd like to do myself.
I've gotten involved with a couple of people who are really, creepily into HackMaster.
Now, HackMaster, for those who don't know, is like AD&D 2nd edition if written by 'muh realism' autists who believe the GM should be some sort of old testament god, blabber on about the sanctity of muh rules and muh dice, and worship flowcharts and tables.
The main one is a guy writing his master's thesis on some shit about ancient Rome, and he's got a hard-on for batshit insane granularity, 'realism' and the like to the detriment of actual pace and gameplay, taking everything in the HM books as the actual gospel.
I love the guy, but his hard-on for the system and incredibly stubborn unwillingness to move on from it and 3.5 makes me want to scream.
He GM's one game which I play in, because the group is pretty super.
>>51668803
cont.
The other HM-lover is a gal who's also highly university-educated, and she's a lovely hostess whenever we play at her place, including making food or even baking treats. Suffers very minorly from being the sort of girl who grew up being pretty fucking goth. Fond of rp over crunch, but LOVES to roll up characters, and HM scratches that itch so well, or so she says.
She GM's another HM game, which I also play in, as well as Latinus Cretinus, and she plays in his game as well.
I also GM a HM game, on their asking, having taken over an All-evil campaign that their old GM ragequit from (he's an entire chapter in and of himself).
As an additional player, I also have a guy who, while a good guy IRL, he perfectly plays into Chaotic Neutral Bullshit territory, full of 'it's what my guy would do!', 'I'm just playing my character!' and arguing with me whenever I make a ruling not in his favor. Plus, he keeps practically worshiping the concept of 'lolchaoticrandumb' and keeps pretending all the evil shit he does is just being chaotic.
I'm not blameless either, of course, I'm a literal sperg with severe control freak tendencies.
>>51668809
>an All-evil campaign that their old GM ragequit from (he's an entire chapter in and of himself)
Let's hear it then.
