Had a dispute with another player over alignment

>ohboyherewego.jpg

Me and the player are both lawful good. He's a cleric and I'm a fighter. We find a plant and the DM says it can be used to make a powerful poison. I decide to take some, and the cleric speaks up, saying it's an inherently evil/chaotic act to use poison on a weapon. I point out that he uses his goddess to make killing things with his sword easier, so why can't I use a plant to kill things with my sword easier? He pulls out the book to show me that poison = bad, and I tell him to shove the book up his ass because that makes no fucking sense.

Is he right, /tg/? Yea or Nay

Just tell the cleric to go screw himself and do waht you want?
>>
>>51725939

He's entitled to his belief but as long as he doesn't rule over you then you can make that poison for days. Alignments are silly anyway.
>>
The right move is clearly to not only make the poison, but to kill the cleric with it.

That'll show him your lawful good is stronger.

How would you run a campaign based on a generic anime

What system would you use and what would you use as quests or activies to do during this campaign?

Maid sounds about right.

I guess Valentine's day is the right time to pint out how depressing harem anime are. It's not even about having multiple hot girls desperate for your D, it's about doing fun things together with people who enjoy your company. Such cliché staples as
>The beach episode
>The summer festival episode
>The christmas episode
fill me with despair to no end, yet I keep watching these shitty shows. They at the same time remind you that the wound is there and dull the pain. It's an abstract kind of feel.

A few people in my group have been jokingly bringing up my powergame-y tendencies for the past few weeks, to the point I begin to wonder.

My character does everything in his power to become stronger, that's true. He's optimized on paper, actively seeks self-improvement, does shady deals with demons in exchange for power, accepts experimental body augments and attempts to break the system at every turn.

Thing is, he's doing all that because it's part of his character. He wants to get as strong as possible to be able to save people he cares about.

Is it really That Guy behavior if I just wanna save the fucking world, dammit? Not even because power fantasy but because I genuinely like it and people in it.

Metagaming is a that guy trait. It's never cool. Some of the coolest developments are a result of a mistake made or place your character was lacking. Especially when you say you're trying to break the game, shit man I would be waiting for the first opportunity to cripplingly punish him regardless of your good intentions. Road to hell and all that. Point is, stop.
>>
>>51725520
That guy usually don't stop to ask himself if he's wrong, so you got that going for you.

However, if all your characters only ever want to become stronger and you care about making your character like Saitama, you might make the game less enjoyable for the rest of the group.
>>
>>51726183
I'm not metagaming.
When I talk about "breaking the system", I mean in-setting rules, actively trying to find loopholes in things like, I don't know, the Paladin Oder's Equipment Redistribution Form or something to get more money, gear and power. I try to recruit NPCs, or at least get their help, as well as support the other PC's nasty habits because it ends up profitable for me.

I don't think I'm ever metagaming or acting out of character, but I can see how all this could be annoying I guess.

AW + PbtA Thread

I'm working on a Grimm campaign and I was thinking of taking the game over to PbtA. I've heard some discussions about how a lot of PbtA games miss the point and fail to use mechanics of the system effectively.

What does PbtA do well? What does it do poorly? What should I keep in mind when making new classes/moves?

Note: this is not a discussion comparing DW to PF or any other system. Just a discussion of the mechanics of PbtA merits and flaws.

Oh, let me explain:

Grimm is a setting in which players play as kids taken to the faerie realm. A lot of the places and characters are based off of Grimm's Faerie Tales.

The setting is awesome and there are some cool meganical elements, like spending imagination points to temporarily cause something make-believe to manifest in the faerie realm. The classes are schoolyard clichés like Nerd, Jock, and Bully.

That said, I find the system needlessly complicated and loaded with unnecessary character options. I want a game that is more rules light, with some element of a clock ticking down on your humanity. See, the longer characters stay in the faerie realm, the more like Faerie they become. Eventually, they may find themselves unable to return to the mortal realm.

The rare moments where someone's in-game actions actually move the other players at the table to genuine emotion really get me. All at once everything falls into place, everyone's entirely in character, and you can just feel the situation like you were really there for that one brief moment.

I'd slog though a thousand That Guys and Those Groups for a single minute of that feeling again, and I can only hope I can show that feeling to other people when I play with them.

For Warhammer, it's the sheer amount of shit you can do in the games. 40k has space elves, Xenomorphs that read Starship Troopers, space Mongolians, orcs in fighter planes, massive tank battles and all sorts of crazy bullshit. Fantasy had treepeople, lizardpeople, rat people with fucking doom bells that could crack castle walls open with a toll, badass elves on dragons in silvery armor, a bunch of Germans with guns and steamtanks and shit, dwarves with gunlines and goofy grudgeholding that goes above and beyond, ogres and gnoblars, knight goblins with mushroom sorcery and squig riders, and French Arthurian knights that travel the world on their quest for the Grail.

The grimderp and ugliness of the setting and models turned me off from Warhammer (40k and fantasy) when I was 13 or so when I found it, but something about the way Fantasy looked kept bringing me back. The beautiful bright green grass fields and trees they used for scenery looked realistic, unlike what I was used to in video games and such, but it wasn't boring like trains or other models. There was something about it that reminded me of old-school fantasy, but a flexibility that made it adapt to modern sensibilities without a hitch. By the time Warhammer Online (flawed as it may have been) came out, and I visited the Old World as a dwarf ironbreaker for the first time and saw the old mountains and hills and stonework, I knew I'd found something I'd love forever.

There's plenty I could say about 40k that is similar, but the crux of it is that there's so much to the worlds of Warhammer. So much color and depth, darkness of tone and lightness of heart, cool as shit characters and feats and shit so goofy I still go into gigglefits about it after all these years. You can do whatever you want in Warhammer, and you make it all yourself.

Hey /tg/ do you track the injuries and scars of your characters or your player's characters? I started doing it recently and its pretty neat actually. It gives you a physical record of your travels and adventures and it makes you realize that adventurers would be a really fucked up looking group of people. I mean, scarred and beat up straight to hell. I'm pretty low level and I've got lichtenburg scars from lighting bolts, burn scars, some punctures from arrows, a big old scar on my shoulder from a run in with a bandit that had an ax, and even a weird circular scar from a giant leech.

It's fun. I like it.

It's neat and adds flavor which in my opinion is always a plus. Although one should keep in mind that PCs have unrealistic vitality and should proportionally tone down scarring if going for realism
>>
>>51718102
From time to time.

Last time I did that was in L5R.
Received a moderately unpleasant facial scar from a Ronin.
Then saved the group by offering an eye to the Kami for the power to kill a foe.
Then had a leg permanently crippled in a landslide, so he had to walk with a cane.
>>
>>51718203
Isn't it more realistic to have them be just really scarred up? I mean, able to survive lots of punishment and able to perfectly heal it aren't the same thing.

If I could care less, surely that means I currently care to some extent? Why do Americans have to shit our language up so much? So how many of you have tried inq28?

As someone who's only tried 4/6/7th ed. 40k I don't really have any idea of how a game like this would work rules-wise.

I am however, very interested in trying it, so how do I sell it to my gaming group?
