Have them map it out on their own. Its fun to compare after and less hassle to try and manoeuvre scrap paper to sort of cover your map.

Speaking of this image though, just recently my party stole some Erdlu from a tribe of Tareks. I really like how Athas feels without all of the "normal" animals there, very alien.

Fire Draconic Sorcerers are pretty much better 90% of the time, the only thing Phoenix Sorcs have over it is the dropping to 1 hp explosion.

You could always just be a Lore Wizard and change everything to Fire damage too.

Don't play 5e at all. 4e is better. If you haven't bought the books yet, don't, buy some used 4e books and you will have a much better time.

In 5e your numbers never improve because the game is badly balanced, damage bloat is awful, the classes are unbalanced, and caster supremacy is almost the same as 3.5. Not to mention the books cost like 100 dollars and that's if you get them on sale. Or you can have fun readnig PDFs off of your iPads, whatever. The system is bland as hell overall, the feats are mostly shite and you have to trade ability ups for them. It's an attempt to pander to grognards by making the game like AD&D (i.e. without feats, but still having skills), but in reality it's a bastard mix of 3.5 and the shittiest parts of 4e.

One of my GURPS characters decided he had one. Sci Fi setting, I was an alien whos egg had been thought to be fossilized. I decided the Museum Curator where I hatched was my nemesis as I ran out. I left a badly scratched note saying "I hate you, I will kill you". The Curator thought it was terrorism and vandalism....

Kind of. My character ended up being the nemesis to another PC in the group. Neither of us knew, IC or OOC that our backgrounds matched up. He was the culmination of my past finally catching up to me to bite me in the ass, and I was the reason his life turned to shit and he started adventuring in the first place.

My character ran away, since he discovered it first, but only a day later his character found out and hunted me down. We had a pretty epic confrontation, a mix between us dueling eachother, while fending off waves of encroaching baddies that wanted to kill us both. I escaped, finishing the party split for good. Everyone ended up making another character to fill out our respective spot in "my" new party, and the old party. So now the campaign runs two simultaneous groups with differing, and somethings conflicting objectives.

The couple of new players are firmly NU right now, but I intend to switch where I sit so I can coach them.
There's an NE player who has lied to the GM's face when the GM forgot to have an enemy act (for the second time that combat). He's the only other guy in the group who really has a firm handle on the rules though.
The rest are IN.

It's okay if you're looking for Traveler with less crunch. That's LESS crunch, not no crunch. Anybody who hates math is still going to be in for a bad time. I didn't particularly care for it's preexisting skill sets, since most of us still felt highly incompetent on a starship despite that being our only job. Its attempt to simplify Traveler combat kinda fell flat too; you are either a warrior and get to participate or an expert who will shoot once, hit, and scurry away.

Can't comment on Psychics, GM banned them. It's an alright game, I just prefer Traveler. Skill training is needed in this game and they charge you out the ass for it.

This is the best space-op companion a sci-fi GM could ask for. Don't like the rules? Forget them, get it for the best advices you'll ever get for running a sandbox campaign among the stars.
AND you also get a shit-ton of awesome tables for generating adventures that are actually fun to play.

Scale the society up to macro scale wandering spaceships that visit planets, gather resources, then move on in order to not exploit natural resources and allow them to regenerate.
