If I want to minimize the SJW bullshit, am I better going with nWoD or CofD? That is "1e" or "2e"?
You're better off not touching WoD at all.
>>51780691
Wew lad, I'm somewhat aware but still, c'mon. I like the concept of WoD even if I find White Wolf's politics annoying.
>>51780586
2e's better, overall. If the game you wanna play has 2e rules(or is Demon or, god help you, Beast), you should use them. Otherwise, your option depends on the game; for Hunter, grab the CofD core book, Hurt Locker, Hunter: Mortal Remains, and whatever other Hunter books you want(core, presumably, is one of them), and use Mortal Remains and the CofD core book to play a stop-gap version of Hunter 2e. For Mummy or Geist, use the game as-written, basically, except add in all the stuff specific to 2e(Aspirations, Conditions, beats, and flat xp costs, which you can use basically as-written for stuff mortals could gain, but should refer to other splats costs for their Powers).
What's the craziest out-of-character shit you've had go down at a tabletop RPG session, /tg/? I'm talking beyond "that guy" and into the realm of the cops being called or someone being told to get the hell out and never come back. Just an absolute shitshow.
Anybody got any stories? All I got is that one where Spoony was playing D&D and when one of the players went to the bathroom the DM's wife started saying racist shit about him.
>>51780343
>little shit at the FLGS
>prolly about 14-15 yrs old
>we're all certain he had been stealing bits and pieces, both from players and off the shelves.
>there were tons of rumours about it, even from some of his so-called buddies
>repeatedly heard he was a klepto and sneaky asshole in general
>never managed to catch the little sneak red-handed or with any of the goods though
>decide to go vigilante on his ass
>it's one winter gaming night, getting dark early
>I leave early and lurk outside, waiting for the thieving little fuckwhistle to head home
>got a nice egg-sized rock in my pocket
>cautiously follow him a few blocks
>line up my shot
>the eggrock of justice sails through the air and bounces off the back of his head
>yelp of shocked pain
>it looked like he was going down to the ground but I didn't hang around to observe
>run through some back alleys, trying not to laugh out loud
>hear later that his mom forbade him to come to that part of town again
>apparently they're a Muslim family and she thinks it was a racist hatecrime or some shit
>never see the kid in the store again
>I do see him around town sometimes though
>always greet him with "Hey man, how's it going!" with a big friendly smile
>>51780343
I got a story, just gonna greentext it.
>DMing FFd20 (Basically Pathfinder but Final Fantasy)
>Got three players, running a DMPC because they have no martial classes in the party
The three players are playing as follows in a modern-day-with-magic setting
>One is a Red Mage, lots of self-enhancement spells
>One is a Gunner, basically a Private Eye and a cowboy mixed into one
>The last, and the one who caused the drama, is playing a Ninja from the slums
>DMPC is a Knight, law enforcement in the capital city
I'm gonna skip the majority of the campaign thus far and jump right to the session and the drama.
>Party's first outing together goes smoothly, bunch of dead druggies in a ghetto house
>During the situation, Ninja character jumps into one of the side-rooms in the drug house, and finds what I intended to be the main clue forward
>He takes this information and continues fighting
>While the party's searching around, DMPC asks Ninja "Did you find anything?"
>Ninja says "Nope."
>u wot
>I think "fine, I can work around this"
>I shoehorn a safe in, containing a recording that fills the missing puzzle piece that Ninja is missing
>I figure he'll share this info so the party can all go along
>The info is a tape recording
>After listening to the tape, Ninja says "Alright, I'm out" and disappears.
>Rest of the party is all "wtf is happening?"
>They just had the main clue forward stolen from them, I have to work around this
Continuing in another post
>>51780530
>an adult man stalks and assaults a kid with a fucking rock capable of caving a dude's skull in if thrown with enough force and accuracy
>because of RUMORS
You're a terrible person.
>"Hey man, what game do you play?"
>"Oh, I play GURPS."
>"Man, GURPS fucking sucks."
>"You've played it? Why does it suck?"
>proceeds to describe himself not only playing the game wrong, but playing it in a way that sounds like they were specifically trying to play it wrong
I'm done with all these system/edition wars. These guys aren't simple trolls, they're geniuses at being idiots.
So you're dismissing the notion of discussing and comparing systems altogether?
You can't just assume everyone's experience mirrors your own, or you just end up shouting anecdotes back and forth with no progress being made.
Actual RPG discussion is rooted is discussing RAW or common consensus alterations, along with important factors like the games design intent and how well it fulfils what it claims and promises to do.
Sure, there's a lot of shitty discussion on /tg/, but that doesn't mean that sort of discussion as a whole lacks value.
>>51779082
>discussing and comparing systems
This requires equal footing in the system. When someone plays a game once, wrong, and they dismiss it outright then it's no longer equal footing, and not OPs fault
>only just now figuring out /tg/ is the worst place possible to productively discuss tabletop RPG systems

When I realized I didn't have playsets of all my awesome stuff.
>>51771682
I bought the c13 decks and played them with friends. They had lots of weird and unplayable cards in them, but they were fun and no game was ever the same. Some times afterwards I disassembled all my other decks and started to build my own commander decks.
Went to my university's magic and was invited in to a commander game and was given a deck. My favorite formant ever since.
>You are a planeswalker

>>51781405
I guess I should start posting mine then. Ah well
>Okay. This was a special homebrew a friend made, set in the far future, but using 5e rules.
>New classes, new races and new equipment.
>In the beginning, we all started on some big ass ship exploring a new part of the galaxy. On board was several crew members, wealthy passengers here to lay claim to the new planets, and our party.
>The DM, kindly let us start off with 1 special item for our character or better, but not too powerful.
>The first was a average human, but was from a water world so he had gills and shit. He was a ranger like class that specializes in guns and stealth. He was a general dick that had chosen 3 companions with him as his special that took a full 3 minutes to do combat.
>>51782355
>The next was my character. I had geared up to make a healer and had made a plant like creature that absorbed straight solar radiation to live. This made me glow, and look like a 6-7 foot plant like bad-ass. Their base idea was more of a peaceful one, and the class i had made was like a hard-light forming creature, with special racials, and some healing tools from the cleric class.
>Then we have one of the more strange ones. A giant Russian cockroach. Not really a cockroach but essentially the love child of a 40k Ork, a Slavic thug, and a very pissed bug. His class was a melee damage dealer, and he had no real concern for his well being. He also had a fuck off ax that did huge damage with his retarded strength. Good times.
>>51782371
>Then we had another human, only this time an actual human. He was playing a class called the Gentleman, which they got from a pre-existing home brew class. Basically a neck beard meets romance harem anime protagonist embodied in a 18th century british aristocrat. We never learned his special, and he didn't come into the story until a bit of the ways through.
>So all was going well, two members talking with each other, when the ship captain called them, the ranger, and the bug man to the bridge. They then saw my character looking out the window at a strange as fuck Coke Can from space. A giant pure black can shaped ship had appeared, absorbing light, and had resisted all attempts to communicate.
>The captain was, of course, leaning towards attacking the thing, I tried to mediate saying it may be bombs, when our bug man, who the player named the race Xarh, decided to hit the fuck it button. Literally.
>He rolled to attempt to fire the ship's weapons. DM laughed and said sure. Nat 20. Everything gets fired.... and did jack shit. The Coke Can from Space is still there, and it starts morphing and growing spikes.
Would a game book be considered /tg/? I mean, it has rpg elements so I would suppose that it would count.
Ive played the first 2 books from the Lone Wolf saga by Joe Dever, and Ive really enjoyed my time with the books
Do you have a favorite? What kind of combat system did it use?
Also, has anyone ever written their own game book? Ive been interested in writing one and making a combat system to go with it, but I wanted to see a few more examples before I get started in charting the mechanics of it all.
pic related, its the first book from Lone Wolf
>>51780796
i love the lone wolf series. i lost books 4 and 5 moving and haven't replaced them yet. sucks.
>you are very hungry and must now eat a meal or lose 3 endurance points
>>51780850
Im beyond jealous that you even owned them. I only just recently jumped on the train and had been playing them on the project aon webiste, but nothing really compares to having the physical books. Ive considered printing out the pdfs but that would be just so much paper.
>>51780871
Now i want to dust them off and give them another read it's been a long time. I was able to pick up the main series over a couple of years between the goodwill and local used bookstores.
I'd like to get some of the d&d cyoa books. i remember checking out some d&d cyoa from the library years ago and loving it, but could never remember which book it was. it was about as complex as lone wolf with a kind of character sheet and i think a 2d6 system of some kind. it wasn't from the endless adventure series.

>>51780135
You are trying really fucking hard to start shit ain'tcha?
I am posting this again near the beginning of the thread for more coverage. I talked before about the conceptual design of a new class, the Bound. After doing so I looked into the Avowed as a lot of people say it had similar flavor. I have seen that this is true, that they seem to be sort of two branches of the same original concept. In Forrest's idea it is forging a connection between the PC and an external force, in mine it is the PC having an external force trapped inside them.
After thinking on it I have refined portions of the design, and would like to talk about them at least a bit. First I will talk about the three core concepts of the class:
>Bound entity
The bound entity is what you have had put inside you. This was a main topic of discussion last time to refine the possible list, and I got a number of fantastic suggestion that got the sparks going. Bound entity effect what sort of powers one can receive, both Stable and Unstable releases.
>Binding Location
The binding location is where the entity was put inside of you. This modifies what sort of powers one can receive. Binding location, unlike entity, only effects one's Stable releases. I have played with the idea that certain entities only have certain compatible bound locations.
>Origin
The origin, unlike the other two, does not effect what powers you get. Instead it gives you minor Ex utility abilities and class skills, basically to let you have some abilities pertaining to how you received your entity.
We've recently started playing a game that uses a dice pool and we don't have enough dice between us to settle individual rolls without borrowing from one another. To save time (and to prevent dice from being lost), some of us have been using our phones while the other half have been using physical dice. The guys who use physical dice sperg out on us for using our phones because "the randomization isn't as pure" or some shit.
Is there really that much of a difference between using physical dice over a dice roller app or does it all pretty much come down to preference?
Honestly, in terms of actual numbers the apps are likely significantly more fair and closer to truly random than the physical dice.
Saying that, either is fine and making an issue of it is just pointless pedantry.
Physical dice aren't pure either, they'll have subtle biases from the uneven wear they get during tumbling.
The important part is that rolling dice feels good and dice rolling apps will never replicate that.
