What does /tg/ think of the Holy Grail War as a setting? What do you think about the classes?
>>51767725
The one with the adults was okay. The kiddie ones were super bad.
The setting feels very silly and the classes seem quite arbitary.
>>51767725
The anime about the adoptive father of (blank main character) was neat.
The setting shows promise, but of late the pandering got real and kind of shit.
I know way too much about this setting in general, and I think it has promise. Tried putting together a homebrew with a friend, but we got overambiscious.
Asymmetrical PvP and pairs form an interesting game, if you can find 4-14 players and keep everyone engaged in a game where most of the players could just be... out of the game after a point.
In order to do it, you need to decide on some things first.
>do Servant players pick their Servants?
>are Servants preconstructed or do players build them?
>what bullshit levels are we looking at?
Last one is difficult. I tend to think that anything outside the original and Zero is bumb as shit, even when it can be fun. Endless genderswaps, character design reuses, historical figures as loli, turning poets into reality-bending mages, and uninspired uses of cool figures. But honestly, gauge your group. Maybe your friends want nothing more than Caesar to be a little girl in thigh highs and a laser sword.
Classes are fine as long as your players know it won't be fair coming in. Assassin should be difficult and underpowered compared to the melee classes. Caster will have problems given at least three Servants will have significant resistances to them. And Berserker is perfect for that friend who wants to participate, but only really knows how to murderhobo.
And if PvP isn't your thing, change it. Holy Grail war isn't a free-for-all, but a team-based trial. Holy Grail War is actually a treasure hunt. Holy Grail War gives two or three masters multiple servants, making it a player versus NPC situation. Possibilities are endless.

1979 – In Kabul, militants kidnap the American ambassador to Afghanistan who is later killed during a gunfight between his kidnappers and police.
It is 220 years since the Battle of Cape St Vincent, one of the opening battles of the Anglo-Spanish War (1796–1808, part of the larger French Revolutionary Wars), where a British fleet under Admiral Sir John Jervis defeated a larger Spanish fleet under Admiral Don José de Córdoba y Ramos near Cape St. Vincent, Portugal.
In late 1796, the military situation ashore in Italy led to the Royal Navy being compelled to abandon the Mediterranean. The commander-in-chief of the Mediterranean Fleet, Admiral Jervis instructed Commodore Nelson to oversee the final aspects of the evacuation. With the British withdrawing, Admiral Córdoba elected to move his fleet of 27 ships of the line from Cartagena through the Straits of Gibraltar to Cadiz in preparation for joining with the French at Brest.
As Córdoba's ships got underway, Jervis was departing the Tagus with 10 ships of the line to take up a position off Cape St. Vincent. Having left Cartagena on February 1, 1797, Córdoba encountered a strong easterly wind, known as a Levanter, as his ships cleared the straits.
As a result, his fleet was blown out into the Atlantic and forced to work their way back towards Cadiz. Six days later, Jervis was reinforced by five ships of the line from the Channel Fleet. His work in the Mediterranean completed, Nelson sailed aboard the frigate HMS Minerve to rejoin Jervis. On the night of February 11, Minerve encountered the Spanish fleet and successfully passed through it without being detected.
Reaching Jervis, Nelson came aboard the flagship, HMS Victory (102 guns) and reported Córdoba's position. While Nelson returned to HMS Captain (74), Jervis made preparations to intercept the Spanish. Through the fog on the night of February 13/14, the British began to hear the signal guns of the Spanish ships. Turning towards the noise, Jervis ordered his ships to prepare for action around dawn and stated, "A victory to England is very essential at this moment."

I posted a while back but I'll post again. I've been vaguely aware of WoD for about 5 years but never really looked into it. Heard bad things about Beast then read a cringe thread about Null Spyder and her MRA legions.
>someone in thread links to the FATAL and Friends archive

Birth of a General Edition
Are there enough Savage Worlds players on /tg/ to warrant a general? Let's find out. Any suggestions and links to be used for future editions of the general would be greatly appreciated. Let's make it happen.
>>51774089
I have a question. I'm kind of new to the system and the shaken status kind of confuses me. It says that being Shaken from mental afflictions is tracked differently from physical in the case of damage. So can someone be double shaken and have to spend two actions snapping out of it? or am I interpreting this wrong?
>>51774152
You're interpreting it wrong. Normally, if someone is Shaken then suffers another Shaken result, they suffer a wound and remain Shaken. Mental effects are only different in that they can't cause a wound.
So, basically think of it like this:
*Dude is Shaken from an Intimidation action, then gets punched in the face for a Shaken result. He is wounded and still Shaken.
*Dude is punched in the face for a Shaken result, then someone Intimidates him while his bell is rung. He is just still Shaken, but not wounded.
Does that help at all?
>>51774152
there is still only one shaken condition. a shaken character who is shaken again receives a wound, but only if the source of the newest shaken condition results from a damage source.
shaken + shaken via taunt = still just shaken
shaken + shaken via bullet = wound
to further complicate matters, in the second instance, there are two options:
spend a benny to unshake immediately before the second shaken condition takes effect, which guarantees you'll only be shaken (and not wounded)
or
spend a benny to attempt to soak the wound with a vigor roll.
Ill start with a positive one and a negative one
>that one guy in your group who always is in a good mood and is a positive player even when hes getting the shit kicked out of him or is rolling like trash
>that one guy in your group who has to roll 40 2+s and complains about "muh dice gods" when he rolls 3 1s
>>51770821
>That one guy in your group who is a massive chinkaboo, but too afraid to admit it, even if it's literally oozing on the table
>That one guy in your group who rolled 5 in 5d6 damage roll after scoring aimed critical

>DM: You find a unique Magic Item

We've all been playing a long time. As player's we've found- or as DMs we've given out- unique magical items that are not from any book we read, but something we created out of our own mind.

Over powered or rules break doesn't matter as this is the nature of the beast. Please state System you were using, level (if applicable), and maybe a description of why is break the rules if it's not a /tg/ standard like iunno... Mechton.
>I'll start the ball rolling with something small:
Years ago back in the days 3.5: Gave my players a small golden scarab broach. This automatically transformed into a creature (shared stats as if a familiar) for the attuned player, and the player could switch between vision and control of his own body or that of the scarab. Didn't have an intended use for it but the PC made heavy use out of it for stealth and scouting.
8 levels later it got stepping on by a beast of burden to my players dismay.
>>51758353
This little thing here:
https://hyboria.xoth.net/sorcery/heart_ahriman.htm
At one point I got irritated with a player in 3.5e demanding some method of getting new stats.
I gave him a collar that would double his current stats, but he'd have to follow the commands of the person on the other end of it, and couldn't act otherwise.
He shut up.

Welcome to the thread for d20 station, a rules light, medium RP Space Station 13 server.
>What is Space Station 13?
It's a 2D top down atmospherics simulator with who dun it gameplay layered on top. Each crew member aboard the station has a specific job to perform, while a select few are selected to be traitors (assassin/spy/thief).

d20 is a server made for fa/tg/uys by fa/tg/uys

A BYOND account is HIGHLY recommended

>I'm new, and I don't know what the fuck to do. How do I swap hands?
Use OOC (backspace say" in the bottom, type OOC and hit enter, or: http://i.imgur.com/RodAGGZ.png), which means Out Of Character chat, and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC.
There's also wikis dedicated to documenting the spaceman way of life, but they vary widely from server to server.
>What are the rules?
The rules are very relaxed and admins try to take a hands-off approach to administrating. Admins will generally only intervene if someone is explicitly playing to ruin the game. Reminder to read the rules in-game.
>What map/code do you run?
We run a heavily modified Ministation map with mostly custom code. Most jobs on Ministation are merged with similar counterparts and head roles have been re-enabled.
>When does everyone play?
The server is mostly populated with Americlaps, so peak times are usually between 7pm-3am EST
>Who are these tripfags?
Usually admins/coders for the server
