Bloodborne boss, I was thinking of having it be the base for a crossbred, bastard child of Tiamat and some unknown unholy thing.

The greatest city is Uzuldaroum. Nearby is Commoriom, which is a blasted ruin that used to be really awesome. Everybody did a Bikini Bottom when Commoriom turned to shit and they just went to found Uzuldaroum.

Hello tg, This is abit of a rant about one of my personal favorite tabletop RPGs of all time. Dread.

If you don't know what I'm talking about here's a link to the quickstart rules (four pages)

http://archive.4plebs.org/dl/tg/image/1377/43/1377432921870.pdf

So it is abit of a oddball for sure, instead of rolling you have to play a game of Jenga. However, this seemingly gets unbridled hate for this mechanic alone. Seemingly the only way a 'real' Rpg should be played is with dice, and while I'll agree that Dread isn't perfect, It works wonders for a slightly impromptu horror story.

So what are your thoughts? Am I a blind fanboy or is this worth merit?

Dread's good fun. A bit dated, but it's a great party trick for teaching to normies.

Have you tried Ten candles yet, anon?
>>
>>51844177
No I have not, thank you so much for mentioning that!

Personally I am lazy and I find it's almost impossible to have a bad game with even the most humble of prep with games like dread or as it appears, ten candles. If you are into Dread my favorite premade is the " corporate retreat " from the rpgknight review

I've never run a game with guns, for the past 2 years I've only done sword and sorcery. a game is coming up this weekend and i want to branch out and try a game with guns and more modern or future tech.

everyone in the group is on board and anything will fly. but i have no idea where to start?

i can figure out a system, thats pretty easy, we know enough about GURPS. i just have no idea about a game or setting, I'm drawing a pretty big blank. all i can think of is Zombie, wild west? or Shadowrun.

What can you suggest?

>GURPS
Certainly pick up the best universal game out there for gunplay. Look at High Tech, and choose a setting. The further away you get from muskets up into laser rifles, the more complicated the situation can become. I urge you to pick what you think has the most fun though, and just run with it.

Least complex for gurps is always people vs people, with little extraneous equipment. Ww2, wild west frontier, and Victorian adventure all fit the bill. ( If you mix in zombies, they can needlessly complicated things with weird injury tolerance and unloving templates, but they're still fun)

Pick a setting, and build for it. And KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid). Don't use everything, but at least use hit locations!
>>
>>51842062
do shadowrun where people dress crazy and have supper neoprogressive fashion styles that sponsor androgyny and high impact sexual violence. If you want them to have success during their first run have them start with some decent supplies given to them by the guy. Shadowrun 1st level is reasonable as you can have a decent amount of supplies for yourself.

maybe think about running cyberpunk savage worlds or something instead though, as shadowrun is a little crunchy for something you're playing as a one shot. just less reading on your part and more roleplay than rollplay
>>
>>51842062
If you're looking at GURPS, give the Action series a shot. It takes only the necessary rules, simplifies/streamlines where necessary, and gives the players templates to work with; it's not only better for newbies, it also means *you* don't have to spend time doing all that and can instead focus on writing the adventure.

As for what the adventure will be, I'd say all the PCs should start out as an established team/group of buddies because you don't have time to waste on introductions. Gunplay-focused games can rise out of a lot of scenarios: search and destroy missions, rescue/"hostile extraction" missions in enemy territory, a mafia war, and a heist gone *very* wrong (or at least very loud as a smash n' grab) all work.

Nah, names have always been the easiest part for me.
>>
>>51841874

Indeed. Cribbing off of existening things is all well and good but I at least want to avoid copy catting names if it can help, that and it's hard to come up with names for languages your not going to bother to flesh out.
>>
>>51841874
Google "fantasy name generator" or "historical name generator" or some such thing. If you poke around for a bit, you can probably find one that's helpful. If nothing else, you can use the names they give you as inspiration, picking them apart and reassembling them.

This site has a bunch of 'em: http://fantasynamegenerators.com/

Real names for a shitload of different cultures are near the bottom.

In various times in history, legend had it that in [far away exotic land, probably in Africa or the Far East] the king is so rich that all the beggars who ask for it are fed, clothed and washed for free in his city/palace.

Let's say we want to introduce a detail like that into a game. This is meant to show that the exotic king is absurdly wealthy, of course, but nobody is INFINITELY rich. How much should each beggar receive for free from the king's compassion to awe the players with the king's wealth without it breaking the believably of the setting (I mean, there are a lot of beggars, you can't have them all actually living like kings)?

>are fed, clothed and washed for free
That doesn't really sounds like much. The real question should be, how long will this wealthy king keep up with this? Because if this turns out to be true, all the beggars that can will try to get to him. And after these three days their situation hasn't really improved, so they will knock on the kings door again. At some point the city might be flooded with beggars that do nothing but life on the expense of the king.
>>
>>51842002
I'm assuming that's why that didn't actually happen in real life and was used as a tall tale to exaggerate the impossible wealth of faraway kingdoms (then again, it's said that Mansa Musa just about singlehandedly collapsed the economy of the Middle East and kickstarted the Italian Renaissance by accident just by dumping so much gold into the region on a trip to Mecca, so who knows).

I like science fantasy of all stripes from the Thundarr the Barbarian/John Carter of Mars aesthetics to ultra modern looking. I see no difference between super science and magic thanks in part to growing up with Mage: The Ascension not to mention you have guys like Dr. Doom who essentially embodies this sort of thing having a super scientist dad and a scorercer gypsie mom and he uses both to great effect.

I'm a huge fan of settings that involve ruins from previous ages that people discover and wonder about, maybe build on top of. Lots of mystery to it.

Points of Light is also really fun, because it's got so much room for adventure. A dangerous world that people are struggling to get by in. Something with a lot of space where adventurers can make a degree of sense.

Combining the two is pretty much the bomb.

For a bit of dissonance, I also love for the aesthetic to be somewhat low-fantasy comfy, though there's one thing that's high-fantasy-ish that I just unabashedly love: high-fantasy architecture. Giant castle complexes, floating islands, massive dungeons, shit like that.

It is a dark time in Azeroth. Foul creatures have emerged from the depths of the Black Morass the likes of which no one has ever seen before. Rampaging through the country side of Stormwind, they exact a terrible toll among its people and manage to kill King Adamant Wyrnn before they are driven back into the swamps. Now Prince Llane Wyrnn has ascended the throne but will he be able to rally his court and put a stop to this evil once and for all?

Warcraft Eras is a game of Grand Strategy. Each player will assume the roles of either a member of the Stormwind Nobility or one of the Orc Clans. After building their character they will choose a starting province to manage and build up in the coming war. Through-out the week players will interact and roleplay with other characters and at the end of the week submit orders which will then be processed into news posts detailing the results.

Currently we have 5 players with 4 of them Alliance and 1 of them on the Horde, so we definitely need more Orc Chiefs! Do you have what it takes to lead the Horde to victory? Will you succumb to the dark powers gifted to you by the demons, or find strength through the elements and the old ways?

I will play whatever role is most needed by the party or something interesting but not spotlight stealing. I have no problems working within whatever limits or realms of possibility the DM has set. I'm willing to research or read your/any other lore to better fit within the confines of the game. I also have two jobs so scheduling might be a tiny issue. In essence, I love tabletop gaming and I just want a solid group that won't fall apart after 3 games.
