They got better artists, who asked the writers more/better questions. Then this was built upon for 5 primary iterations across 30 years. In that time, Beholders have become among the most iconic and fucking awesome monsters in D&D, and only D&D, when they shouldn't fucking copywrite the beastiery names. Beholders are fucking cool and all of fantasy fiction should have more of them.

Floating cyclops head with medusa hair ending in eyeballs. Also viciously xenophobic and paranoid. Considers itself the true perfect pinnacle of its race, but every one of its race are so different. Some fleshy, some scaley, some chitonous, some with piercing teeth, some with human teeth but bigger.

Beholders are great mang. But they've had five editions to iterate them and have new teams try to grow the monster and its lore/themes. Beholders are just an example of them nailing it. Less valuable iterated monsters might include Driders, goblinoids, Chuuls. To a lesser extent the purple worm and the terrasque. They don't really get better but they never were bad and never got worse.

> Improves upon 3.5 design, while avoiding mistakes of 4e

Applies a thin coat of paint while not making many real or significant improvements, lacks a strong and coherent design philosophy in the way 4e did

> Massively buffs mundane classes such as fighter and monk

They both still fucking suck

> Diverse race and class list, content is added at a very fast pace. 5e got two splatbooks. Not this year, period.

Has the same problem 3.5 did, the majority of the content is garbage.

Is Pathfinder a unilaterally awful game? No. A good GM, with a decent amount of work and sensible content restrictions (tier 3/4 classes etc) can make it work damn well.

But any less skill on the GMs part, or if people don't know which content to restrict, and you'll be fighting the system to make things work significantly more than it'll be adding to your experience of the game.

This isn't about hating on it. This is about being aware of the flaws systems have and being able to clearly highlight and explain them in ways that are useful to new players or people who might be struggling with those same issues. If anything, the meme is people refusing to acknowledge that systems are flawed, or trying to claim that those flaws are meaningless because 'The GM can work around them'.
>>
>>51828671
Some people don't enjoy "3rd Party: The Game."

Some people hate the diverse race list because they're "muh gygax"es and "muh tolkien"s, and despise the idea of a beast race that isn't a mindless alligator man or a gnoll.

Some people hate the sheer amount of shit they have to keep up with, considering how much gets released for it.

Personally I find it pretty fun, but shit if it isn't a clusterfuck that you have to keep to a minimum-- especially when the newer classes are involved, as they tend to be weird technically.
>>
>>51828735
A good GM can make just about any rule system not suck. But a good system requires less work for the GM.

>>51828671
Pathfinder is DND 3.6. Some improvements but not enough to make it not have the same flaws 3.5 did..

And now Paizo has pigeonholed themselves into this system. Especially with Starfinder coming out.

I Don't usually make these and don't have any of the copy pasta edition

Post appropriate character art. Discuss how you would change the game. Don't debate which clan is best clan because they're all shit (except for Crab)

Lots of different views seem to come up on this matter and a lot of inconsistancies.

Are they literally tough as a galaxy at the core? Saitama is supposedly tough enough to onepunch them acording to the auther and there is the whole thing where wildbow talked about how endbringers can destroy the sun and the scene where behemoth withstood an energy weapon that could obliterate india yet scion dismantled behemoth with ease.

What is even going on with them?

What is /tg/'s take on Malifaux? Is it worth buying in two right now if there is a scene near me? How does it compare to 40K and Warmahordes?

If there's a scene in the area, it's absolutely worth the buy in.

Just be aware that the work that goes into being competent at Malifaux (or Warmahordes), rather than just pushing models around a table, is a hell of a lot more time-consuming than 40k.

For my money Malifaux is probably the best game with a decent playerbase out there, but I'm sure someone who mainly plays Warmahordes will be along shortly to tell you I'm wrong.

To get into Malifaux though, just go to your store and pick up the crew box that looks coolest to you, and then maybe another crew box from the same faction that the shop recommends.
Instantly you have two completely different but fully playable crews at the standard game size for $100 or less, and that will be all you need for a couple of months until you work out what else you want.

So I recently just finished the first season of the Fate/Stay Night series. I really liked the idea for incorporating this into a short tabletop campaign (as the concept is something I think could be used well and my group have never seen the anime).

What would you guys recommend as a system to use for it? I was going to modify 5e D&D or maybe use GURPS but that's only because they are the systems I am familiar with. Not a noob DM but I am not a Vet. either.

tl;dr What system do you recommend to run a pic related (Fate/Stay Night) game?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Fate, or some other narrative game, like Risus or something PbtA based (Worlds in Peril?).

Trying to stat out anime is stupid, autistic, an exercise in futility, and entirely missing the fucking point.
>>
>>51849997
Yeah a bit of research recommended the FATE system to me.

How difficult is it to grasp would you say? For players that have only really dealt with D&D and some Edge of The Empire?
>>
>>51849997
Oh and maybe to clarify a bit, I am not looking to recreate the anime just its concept.

I.e a Grail war, Heroic spirits and mages.

The only reason I thought D&D or more stat based systems might work was to have the heroic spirits be maybe 10th level characters with their respective class (Berzerker as brarbarian etc.)

And obviously have the mages have relatively low lvl 1 stats. Though the issue would be dealing with Mana and spell casting.

Normality

Honestly, probably GURPS or something

There's not a lot of detail in All Tomorrows with which you discern appropriate game mechanics, but rather whatever the intention of the game that has been inspired by All Tomorrows would be more relevant for the system.
Eg a game inspired by all tomorrows might be combat heavy or it might largely involve weird beings searching fantastical locations of billion year old artefacts to piece together the fate of a race. In the latter situation, a game with loose, narrative combat would suffice.
