Lots of RPGs are inspired by other media. Movies, television, books, comics, video games, etc often inform our playstyles but can RPGs be played and ran in ways that are informed more by the "medium" of RPGs themselves? How can RPGs be better engaged in this way?
In a lot of ways, narrative focused systems and storygames are at least one way of doing this. They focus purely on the idea of roleplaying as collaborative storytelling, allowing people to engage with it in ways entirely unique to the medium, rooted not in the laws of reality or systemic assumptions but the structures and themes that govern storytelling itself.

Never made my GM or fellow players feel that way, but I suspect that every shadowrunner worth their salt has made civilians feel that, if not whatever security forces they find themselves going up against as well. I certainly know that I have.
Once saw a street samurai hit a man with a pie so hard that knocked him out cold.

How do you use the messy/forceful tags? are they really useful in game?
Also post your favorite playbooks
>>51869017
>How do you use the messy/forceful tags?
See that's the thing about a lot of Dungeon World's rules is that they are just flavor and don't really mean anything.
>>51869017
Mess for things that beak stuff or make life more complicated when they're used.
Fight with a doublehanded axe, after the fight you're covered in gore that can attract predators, cause problems in social situations, give bonuses if you're trying to intimidate people, make it harder to hide, your hands are slippery for climbing, etc. Depends on what happened with the tag and what the characters are doing.
Forceful is more straightforward. It knocks things around. Hitting an opponent with it gives the gm the ability to describe more details for the players to use. It can knock a goblin close to a ledge, crack the shield, break off part of the building's support column, etc.
They're suppose to give you more ideas to work with not more mechanics.

>zombie infestation
>ravens crime
>flame jab has a lot of targets

etc, but it just doesn't feel fast enough. ghost quarter loam is only sometimes good because you spend multiple turns wasting your valuable land drops (likely early game when they matter) keeping your opponent mostly on tempo.
Tec edge is just too slow because you're still getting karned on 3 or TKS on 2.

What is the Spear of Khaine? The artifact that will be the casus belli of the newest DoW?
Also, is it possible that there will be the fourth faction? The ruins don't suggesting that they belong to eldars, they look more like necron. Is it possible that necrons will be included into the final game and relic just doesn't want to show them to the final moment? There were always four factions, the same as now and the evil one, like chaos or tyranids, so it would be logical that it is time for necrons.

Questions to start off this thread: What do you prefere more, one-shot scenarios or a long-running campaign?
Bump
>>51818347
>one-shot scenarios or a long-running campaign?
For Lovecraftian games I'd usually say one-shots are better in most systems due to the toll taken on characters. If I was running a campaign I wouldn't want the usual sanity system, I'd want something where the character change over time due to the mental strain.
>>51818347
If I get a decent party, I prefer long campaigns, where I mess with both the characters AND the players.
I once had a player call me at 4 AM and scream obscenities at me because apparently he had nightmares about his character. The bliss and joy I felt that moment is impossible to describe.
It's Da Archive!
It Will Be The Best 8 Hours Of Your Gaming Career!
STEP 1 Go to the last thread if you haven't looked at it. there is lots of stuff, including filled requests directly posted to the board.
>>51676449
Look through the posted open source pdfs and pics and stuff..
Files posted directly to 4chan are not added to Da Archive, so go grab them now.
STEP 2 Grab your Documents: Da Archive is multiple documents.
Da Archive: Usually Getting Bigger. Hopefully better as well.
Da Archive Annex is where the new links get put. It will be raw and unpolished, with lots of coded links. Sorry for the bother.
Da Wish List is comprised of unfulfilled desires. Please look through it and try to help.
STEP 4 Get a coffee or a stronger beverage, get comfortable and browse through the blasted thing. It is only about 66 pages long. If you skim over the Personal Collections without really looking you will miss 8,000 pdfs.
STEP 7 If you want MORE, the previous threads are all archived in here:
http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/search/subject/PDF%20share/
There are other 4chan archives somewhere as well.
7chan might also be able to help.
STEP 42
Please give as much information as you can when you make a request. The more information you give (cover, a link to product, name of designer/writer/publisher) - the more chances someone might recognize it and upload it.
If you post a list of requests, Please make them a column, not a sentence.
ie
Zombie Hookerz
Lysergia Fur, The AnthroBrit Invasion RPG
Slutty NPCs for Everyone.
Dirty Backstabbers
Step 44 probably requires more alcohol, so go get some.
STEP 5 Please be patient with the irrepressible urchins who request without looking first. They help bump the thread, and they want to look at something that's not porn. They might even read it. You don't have to answer them, although that also bumps the thread.
STEP 6 Rumors of Da Archivist being an A.I. from the Deep Web are unfounded. It does not have mysterious ulterior motives. He is a real person and a moderately well adjusted Luddite Amish Geek who lives in Intercourse, PA and hides his laptop in the hayloft of the barn with a solar panel. The best part of where he lives is that all the girls have Preacher's Daughter Syndrome.
P.S. - Remember, We are Better than all of the rest of the horrible internet and Good Manners ALWAYS gets more results. Wise up or please go elsewhere.

Weapon and armor maintenance and cleaning. Preparing a hearty meal for the party based on what the hunter has trapped and foraged. A little bit of lute and singing in the firelight and then take my turn on watch or bed down.

Repost for new thread!
Second Avowed writer here. While we're currently discussing our options on what to do with Overcharge Modulation, Self Pact's preliminary nerfs (we WILL be playtesting this more) are a change to make the damage dealt by the bonus attacks entirely static (though scaling with level). They'll trigger non-damaging effects, but neither benefit from bonus damage or additional damage sources (so they can't trigger Sneak Attack, for example.) This should make it easier to tune, while still having some interesting optimization benefits.
Further, like with a lot of OTHER attunements, we'll be making theirs scale with their level, though not quite as harshly. Their charisma bonus to armor class will be capped at 3+class level, meaning they'll grant a similar bonus as someone in light armor should it be a one-level dip, while rapidly providing their full benefit to someone who decides to take more levels.
While we're presently still working on it, Aether Channel's second-rank selection is being removed and replaced with a different effect. Their DPR with full base attack bonus was simply too strong, and we'll be reworking the ability.
In other news, we'll soon be bringing two new shapes to the Avowed 2 playtest - the all-new Aether Circus, which fires extremely long range missiles that track their target over several rounds, and Aether Beast, for those who would prefer to stand back and have their loyal minion do all the work. Thank you for your support and feedback!
>>51883276
Sorry to say that is indeed what will be going. Its damage was just way too far ahead of the touch attack shapes, in part because our original math hadn't accounted for weapon special abilities.
>>51883291
Aether Barrage doesn't seem to be a problem at the moment. We're pretty happy with where it is right now, though it's possible we're missing something. How does it feel in your games?
Aragorn is the archetypal Ranger, and probably where Gygax got the idea for the Ranger class in the first place from...
Only he's clearly a Paladin.
>>51883203
Defend your position.
So clear that you don't even need to post your argument.
Maybe classes are a bad concept and only exist because the game was a wargame at first, where you had a number of pregenerated units?
The good king has died, leaving three sons. All of them have the nation's best interest in mind, but none of them are willing to work together, each has a strong claim to the throne and a large following. The people will not accept any ruler but one of these three sons.
Each of them has pumped a mental score. Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma respectively. They have neglected, and dumped the remaining two.
You are in high standing, a knight who served the late king directly. If you swear allegiance to one of these sons, the kingdom will likely accept him as the ruler. For the good of the country and with no ambition of your own, who will you swear your sword to?
A wise king I think.
How about we just feed them all to an Illithid and use their combined knowledge to better run the country
t. Totally not a hungry mindflayer.

This or abolish monarchy
Empire is so much more competent than Imperium right?
Wrong.
They lost Emperor Sigismund to Orcs, got two provinces wiped out by fucking Beastmen under Gorthor, got rekt by a bunch of snowniggers who don't know any other tactic than frontal charge and had no gunpowder (then again Warriors of Chaos are total Mary Sues and the writing of their stories is more dreadful than their image) pretty much every time you want someone to look badass he kills a bunch of krauts.
Imperium has the excuse of being a totally backwards society of utter retards but Empire is pretty advanced so there is no reason why everything shits on them.

FTFY, and way to get the comparison wrong, anon. Have you considered killing yourself? Please do.
