What if the horde won the second war? How would that change the setting?
>>51911866
Interesting question, Doomhammer wasn't very pro-Fel warchief so probably with Ner'Zhul and Frost Wolves he would try to reestablish shamanism among the orcs, but it depends on some other factors.
Most likely Horde starts war against Quel'Thalas.
>>51912135
Wasn't Quel'Thalas sort of aligned with the Alliance? I mean, don't you invade Quel'Thalas in the Orc campaign? I could have sworn one of the mission names was something like the dead rise as Quel'Thalas falls.
>>51912153
Horde attacked Quel'Thalas, but then they moved to besiege Lordaeron capital
Let's talk about giants and giantish monsters. What are they like in your game? Are they savage, noble, or both? Primitive hunters, civilized merchants, blacksmiths, or what? And heck, if you don't have anything to say about giants, you can just post cool pictures instead.
Starting off with a few pictures.
Do you prefer simple plots or complex ones? Which one is better?
Simple plots with complex characters.
It depends on the players.
With good players, complex plots are great, as players can easily get a lot of content from simple. But even simple plots can have complex approaches, so you don't exactly need to fabricate complexity at all times. Trust your players a bit, add lots of small hints, let them take unusual approaches to situations, and you'll get good shit.
With players who just want to murderhobo, you don't want to put your effort in to the complexity of the plot because they'll just murderhobo along and not scratch the surface. With them, interesting and cinematic set pieces are what pays off.

What is a good way to abstract wealth for a game about a gang of mercenaries?
I just hate money counting and putting arbitrary prices on things.
>>51910228
Wealth stat that the player rolls against. If the check fails, they can burn a point to get the item they want. If it passes, they get the gear.
>>51910228
Some sort of a tier system, when the gang gets successful enough all their equipment, housing, etc. gets better.
You can have a npc quartermaster who equips them depending on their experience, skills what is available what they have looted, if the company is succesful, if they bribe him or bring him whores. Make it an integral part of the campaign

What is it about 40k that people find so appealing. I know that many argue that it's only as huge as it is because GW dominated the market early on, but what made people switch from fantasy to 40k if that is the case? What is it about the setting that people love so much, you hardly see the level of lore discussions that you get for 40k in other war games, so what makes 40k unique.
>>51908774
It's large and has a lot of different stuff to appeal to different people.
Similar to the Star Wars expanded universe. Except 40k offers even more factions to choose from. Star Wars seems to mainly be Empire, Rebel Alliance, Sith, New Jedi Order, Old Republic, Clone Army, etc with some minor shit like Grey Jedi or Chiss, but 40k has factions upon factions upon factions and sub factions and sub flavors. 40k has something for everyone, if you're interested. People who hate it just aren't into it, not for lack of options.
What >>51908805 said, and I guess the brutal setting where everything sucks is appealing to some people.
>>51908774
It's huge you dumb faggot. Lots of everything and there is something for everyone
Hey /tg/
What's your settings Creation Myth and Cosmology like?
My first rule is, NEVER telling anything concrete to players out of the game about cosmology, they are only getting confusing, often contraditory myths, legends and shreds of truth. Its theirs to piece together.
At some point the world was infused by primordial mana, enabling all sorts of quantum events and magic. It distorted spacetime so hard for nanoseconds the planet existed in a multiverse, where space and time was meaningless. The mana started to evaporate and sink into the planets core, but not before the multiverse withered into parasitic pocket dimensions clinging to the planet. At this point the mana levels were so high it was essentially fae realm, creatures constantly spawning and distorting eachother into nightmarish forms, living concepts, dimensional parasites, stillborn unattached dimensionlets and phase shifters. After a while the mana started to follow a general half-life decay curve and civilizations formed. These were essentially magitek spacetime wizards and many of them disappeared or dissolved without leeaving the trace, they were the ancients and they barely left anything behind. Later in the still mana enriched environment many animals and creatures of the ancients developed into many sentient species who formed wizarding empires shaping the land. The unpredictable tide of magic was still high enough for creatures to ascend into godhood but calmed downed from the raging currents spawning aberrations. These gods eventually consumed living concepts and other nether creatures for power and went to dwell in parasiting dimensions. As eons passed and the magic kept retreating the great emprires kept collapsing further and further, sometimes reforming but never reaching their previous glory. Their detritus, common magical items for them would eventually become unearthly powerful artifacts.

Do fantasy wizards draw most of their inspiration from Merlin and Gandalf?
Also, where did the stereotype that wizard's live in towers come from?
>>51905009
> Do fantasy wizards draw most of their inspiration from Merlin and Gandalf
No. You don't see Merlin and Gandalf throwing around fireballs, their magic was usually subtle.
> Wizards in towers
That's probably Lord of the Rings.
>>51905009
I believe that Merlin had a tower
>>51905416
no in some stories he got trapped in one, but he didn't live in one
Just picked up the kickoff set. I have a couple questions about some of the rules and costs on the cards... I didn't see the answers in the collected clarifications thread.
My first 3 questions are pic related
>First, whats the cost of any of these character plays? For instance, does 'marked target' cost
1. 1 influence OR activated on a successful playbook hit (only requires 1 success in the case of marked target)
2. 1 influence AFTER a successful playbook hit
>How long do sustained 'buffs' last? Or debuffs like bleed and poison? Is it until they're removed? Until end of turn?
- In the case of Tapper, I understand that 'marked target' may be used once per turn on a potential new target, but for 'commanding aura' (which also has OPT use), it seems an unnecessary classification if the buff is cast on himself and lasts all game or until the character is taken out or the buff is removed some other way. Like, why not make it a legendary or heroic play with an influence cost? Seems OP to use that at the start of the game.
>For targeted abilities like 'marked target', if I chose to use them on a different target each round and assuming they did not remove the debuff if/when they were able, would everyone I've used it on keep the debuff? I guess what i'm asking is, are debuffs like these only usable and sustainable on one target at a time?
>>51899236
Additionally,
>Does moving (dodging, specifically) from base to base contact to a range that is at the maximum length of an enemies melee range keep you IN the melee range? -Example: I used Scum to try to bait Brick's counter charge, ending brick's movement in base to base with Scum, then Scum dodged 2" directly away from brick. The argument was made that Scum was still inside brick's 2" melee range, since he was exactly 2" away, but I argued that I dodged exactly 2" away and was not "within" brick's 2" reach.
The positioning on the pitch was such that Scum had to end movement within 6" of brick instead of say, between 6" or 8" inches which would have negated the argument entirely.
Friendly reminder to anyone that you can play GB on Vassal and the module is made by Steamforged themselves. so what's your excuse?
>>51899794
I tried it, just seems wonky. Every other minute there's a 30 second period where I can't control or manipulate any of my pieces.

I don't know about busted but green eldrazi would be very strong. Blue nukozilek control would be very fun.
>>51904179
Probably, yeah. Azusa eldrazis is a deck, afterall. Just keep the identity rules as is, it would be a bad idea anyway, just like that one youtube faggot who thinks that Mox Opal and Mox Ruby should be unbanned but only for monocoloured decks.

>Thread Question
I've never seen the same commander between two different people in my meta, it's a pretty big meta. That said, the most unfun I've ever played in that meta was a Derevi turbofog deck. Turbofog's fine, but it doesn't do anything if you don't attack your opponent.

How lethal are your games? Do you allow character development?
>>51902073
Character development is necessary. Makes scary moments all the scarier.
>>51902073
I don't go out of my way to kill characters. The core gameplay loop of SAN damage in exchange for discovering scary things gets reset every time a character dies.
>>51902073
I like when my PCs survive but I never make any encounters pushovers. Even a single man with a gun is lethal and should be played as such. Character progression allows for the slow descent into insanity that the game is all about.
