So when it comes to rules design, how do people get around the whole "reinventing the wheel" element?

I've got a setting idea that I've decided would be more interesting a mental exercise if I tried to implement it as a little tactical wargame.

Then I see the sheer number of tactical wargames and I wonder how I'd go about making this one not just a simpler warma-clone, but more important than that at the moment I wonder how to put together a ruleset when there's already so many out there.

Like, do I just build the same set of stats and do d6 under stat? Do I go for something unique for the sake of being unique?

I'm considering the Chain Reaction ruleset which would be very different from the norm, but I haven't played it in a while and I don't remember it being very good for multiplayer games.

I guess it really depends on how I want to bring in specific unique elements. I'll show my power level and say it's pic related, I made a thread about it yesterday. Power-armored knights in a medieval 1910 where European governments have collapsed and reverted back to feudalism with intermingling WW1-era and pseudo-futuristic technology.

So I'm planning on having the main focus be the knights, with regular troops as support or as the anvil for the knight hammer, depending on the faction.

So maybe I'll set up something overall simple and by-the-books and spend most of the design and gameplay time on more robust vehicle combat rules for the knights, a combo of tank battle shelling and parody chivalric fencing with brutal industrial weapons like cattle-hammers and chainsaws.

So maybe I answered my own question.

Karn is the ARM crack of choice because Reposition 5 lets him walk back and get screened by Karax, something he couldn't do in Mk2. Cetrati are your brick, Incindiarii keep the board empty, Agonizer keeps it all alive, Feralgeist sits on a flag like a cheap cunt. And on feat turn, Karn kills anything.

Posted in the last thread right as it ended, what are people's opinions of Power of Dhunia? I know that it is the best theme list Trolls have, but I wanna know if people think that its better to play in theme than out of theme.

I'll need to buy a lot more beasts and runeshapers to make viable PoD lists.

I'm running a gonzo samurai/western game, and it's going pretty well. The party is attempting to rescue a samurai that was captured digging up info on a corrupt local lord. Last session saw them doing a breach-and-clear through the slums, cleaning out thugs. Monk is beating people down, sniper is killing them from afar, bushi is cleaving dudes in half, and the courtier is desperately knifing people to death.

Session 0 and 0.5 just happened, next week the party begins their journey of intrigue and old fashioned violence, navigating the waters of browncoats versus Alliance core. GM left us on a cliffhanger with an anonymous cargo drop in deep red sun rim space. We suspect space Mexican smuggling.

I'm all for the fleshing out and doing a write up of Prince Yriel of Iyanden.

So far we got

- Rogue Trader bordering on outright Corsair
- Annoys the human Rogue Traders because he can use the webway
- Received Writ of Trade for saving Iyanden from 'Nids.
- Saved ~15,000 people from Tanith during the infamous Chaos invasion. Then nuked the planet from orbit because the place was unsalvageable.
- Gave the Maiden World to the Tanith Survivors to piss off Bail-Tan (and also now the Tanith First and Only owe him an eternal debt)
- Has something of an Ahab going on with Kaptin Badrukk and his Flash Gitz
- Has a harem of at least a dozen women, not all of them eldar.
- It is also craftworld and gutter media rumour that he is having scandalous relations with Spiritseer Iyanna Arienal. He absolutely is.
- On an eternal quest for the snazziet of hats, the reason why he got into this business in the first place
- Drinks Space Rum. Lots of Space Rum. The sort with mushrooms floating in it.
- Considered quite mad by even other Rogue Traders.

Lady Malys promised Daemon Prince Tallomin the slaughter of millions of warriors if he and some daemons killed the population of Cadia. Starting the 3rd Black Crusade with the attack on Cadia, the Crone Eldar avoid fighting on the planet as they collected the millions slain by daemons. Barging with Ork clans for "great fights with the humies" and some shiny hats, Lady Malys was able to launch a campaign of extermination on some surrounding sub-sectors while the fighting on Cadia stall. Marines in Omega armor arrived onto Caida in time to rush for the defense of a fortress city. Tricking the local Guardsmen that they were "Vanguard for more Inquisitorial required troops" the marines managed to grind the daemons to halt on multiple fronts. Unknown to the Imperials, Orkz, or Tallomin however, the entire Black Crusade was a distraction to allow the first phase of the Long War to finish. Lady Malys had planned to kill hundreds of millions to collect their corpses to be used in dark rituals. The Warpcraft invoked would allow certain individuals to raise the dead with just a hand wave or cause outbreaks of the Rot with their mind. Chanting Nurgle's prayers in forbidden tongues while crushing millions of bodies to become fertilizer then flushing it down into the ground or sewer system was done on many worlds. The arrive of the Gray Knights prompted Lady Malys to order her human agents with being gifted such power over the dead, to share their Warpcraft or knowledge to a parasitic immortal race already infiltrating Imperial society. Magnus along with the Thousand Sons, Space Wolves, and Gray Knights arrived on Cadia to finally force Tallomin's daemons to flee. The Omega Marines were long gone from Cadia. Lady Malys learned how to trick the Imperials into giving wrong priorities, like if they held Cadia the Black Crusade would retreat. She indeed ordered a fighting-retreat after daemons were driven from Cadia but her objectives were done.

With Faiz in Kamen Jumper's hands. I wanna see how much of this I can get done in one week. Most trouble I'm going to have with Blade is the perks. Suggestions on backgrounds or what to use for Drop-In? Was tempted to use a 'Blank Deck' version of the Rider System for Drop-In, or base it off of Chalice.

The answers depends on the group. The answer is always going to be that they can but only you can judge the maturity and separation of investment that your group can invest to keep it civil.

Because of how hard this is many people will simply say that you should not, for that is easier and perhaps they feel it adds nothing or even brings forth elements members of your group play games to escape from.

Let the person playing the character know before playing.

If people you know break meta they aren't worth playing with.

Ask them. "Hey. I think it'd be cool if our characters got closer."
If they agree then go ahead and start spending more time together IC and if one is a meatshield they almost exclusively guard the other in combat. Favoring each other with buffs, heals, etc. Then after a month or two they can fuck.
