Y'ALL KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS

I've just started practicing to become a L1 judge. I've been taking the practice tests and talking to my local game stores about helping out with events. I've also been in contact with L2s in my area.
What is the best advice you can give to someone who has just started the path to being a judge? I'm sure you get this question a lot.
>>51965129
Read. The fucking. Card.
Seriously- every Judge I know has punted rulings for no reason other than "they assumed they knew what the card did, but were slightly off". It's a good habit to get into, no matter how veteran you are, to just pick the card up and read it really quick. It also gives you a few extra seconds to think about the situation without just standing there awkwardly.
Also, never pass up an opportunity to sit down because your feet will hate you if you do.
Finally, you -will- punt calls. You -will- punt a call so badly it will literally cost someone a game, maybe even a Top 8 slot. And I say that because you are human, and the only judges I know that haven't punted hardcore are the ones who haven't punted hardcore -yet-. It'll happen, so don't let it get to you when it does. Learn from your mistake and move on. I used to have a bad problem of letting one mistake turn into 5 because I'd get shook for like a solid half an hour.
>>51965165
Thanks for the advice. For now I've been reading cards closely, but that's because I'm taking the tests. I'll do my best to keep that up in the paper world.
I know what you mean about punting calls. I've done it even just during casual edh nights as the de fecto rules guy by flubbing how Bloodchief Ascension works if the entire board including itself gets blown up. Tilted me for the night.

What tech do you guys have against the hottest new iteration of Death's Shadow?

MM17 is a set that will benefit Legacy more than it will Modern. Calling it now.
I have no spicy tech because I will be buying staples I have been missing that have been stopping me from playing Blue in Modern. Like fetchlands and snapcaster.

I'll ask until satisfied : I want to build either Goryo's or Valakut Breach. Goryo's seems more fun while Valakut seems more competitive.
Anyone with a bit of experience could give me the pros and cons of both decks ?
How would you feel about a fantasy setting whose visual motifs for armor, fashion, and so on were drawn from across the 13th to 16th century? Specifically European, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean/North African period accurate visuals. Nothing from outside of those periods, their engineering and their tech levels is used in the setting’s motifs.
i.e.; no 1st century Romans or 7th century Vikings running around, no 400 BCE Greeks and Persians with empires butting right up next to Hundred Years War France, nor 2000+ BCE Egyptians across the pond who haven’t changed at all despite the span of millennia passing them by. A large time window for visuals but its inspiration still consistent across roughly 2-3 centuries of our history, with some minor fantasy embellishments thrown in because who doesn't love stuff like magic capes and dragonscale armor?
Anyone.. ?
What is wrong with Roman Orcs and Cossack Elves?

Not a fan, prefer a set time period and mostly humans.

I haven't played Castlevania in a long time.
> "So, if I'm understanding your deal, Erebus, if I swear allegiance to these warp entities of yours, they'll heal the poisoned wound I got on Davin's moon?"
> "Oh, yeah. Absolutely. They're just thrilled to have you on board."
> "Can you give me a rundown on them? You know, just quick bullet points?"
> "Sure. So, there are four big ones; there's Khorne, the god of war and rage, Slaanesh, the god of pleasure and decadence."
> "Sounds good so far. I like war, and I like liking things. Who are the other two?"
> "Other two?"
> "Yeah, you mentioned there were four big ones. Khorne and Slaanesh are two; who are the others?"
> "Oh. Yeah. Um, there's Tzeentch."
> "Pump the brakes. Who is Tzeentch?"
> "The, uh, god of plots and trickery."
> "Good plots?"
> "The best plots. He plots better than anyone else."
> "Now, are these the kind of plots that would benefit me?"
> "... Sure. Yeah. Totally."
> "You hesitated there for a second."
> "99% of the time, I mean."
> "What about the other 1% of the time?"
> "He, ah, turns you into a mouth. Or maybe a bird. Usually it's a mouth."
> "So, statistically speaking, every time I call on Tzeentch, there's a 1 in 100 chance I get turned into a mouth or bird?"
> "Oh, no, he says you won't. Special deal, for you. He gave me very clear instructions."
> "... This isn't inspiring a lot of confidence, here, buddy. Who's the last guy?"
> "Nurgle."
> "And who is Nurgle?"
> "The god of disease. And poison."
> "Any relation to Nurg-leth?"
> "Some. A little. Yeah, they're like, the same guy."
> "So the guy who stabbed me on Davin's moon, with a poisoned dagger, was working for a god of disease and poison, who killed my Sons of Horus and my garrison, all so that I can sell my soul to a god of schemes and trickery, who wants me to kill my dad and plunge the civilization I've helped build into a bloody civil war? And the alternative to this is dying honorably from a war wound, the way I've always imagined?"
> "..."
> "..."
Defend this plot hole.
>>51960608
Look buddy do you want to live or not?
>>51960608
Nurgle's a pretty likeable guy, I'm sure they had a good chat and put their past grievances to rest.
It's fucking terrible characterization.
Horus should have been out on the fringe for like 30 years without the emperor, loyally doing his will, only to return for resupply and realize the Imperium is developing and his role someday as conqueror will be over. That in the end, he's a tool for the Emperor's ambitions of a human empire ruled mostly by weaker men.
Then that gnaws at him. And he decides, with the whisperings of advisors like Erebus, to rebel. Then Erebus offers more weapons to use vs the emperor, like these allies from the warp.
Instead of 'I got poked by an evil knife then went to a coma where I woke up evil.'

How would you do a Space China setting?
>>51952583
Take China
Put it in space
>>51952634
What he said.
It's that fucking simple. It's like you never saw any Star Wars movie.
>>51952583
That's like asking for a German Space setting. Which Germany? Modern eurotrash poop fetish germany? 30s Nazi Germany? 300ad barbarian germanics fighting romans?
So which China? The dynasty kind in your pic?
>Egyptian Elves
>Babylonian Dwarves
>Persian Humans
> Egyptian Elves
So, drow, then?
>>51952582
If you ignore everything about the drow aside from the color of their skin, I guess.
So how many dicks does a fa/tg/uy have to suck to get a good One Piece ttg rules?
Bonus points if its actually intended to be one piece and is not just repurposed mutants and mastermind or something.
Any One Piece (and Naruto, and Bleach, and Fairy Tail, and...) RPG will be a generic, or at the very least, very wide in scope system, because only generic systems can handle the variety of powers and abilities that the game has.
Beyond that, it's up to you what parts of the series you want to put the emphasis on.
>>51951053
I know we had a dragon ball tabletop floating here before so I am sure there is a system designed just FOR that wide scopeness.
I remember a particularly good one but it seems abandoned.
>>51951158
>I know we had a dragon ball tabletop floating here before
Dragonball is extremely specific. There's basically melee fighting, beam fighting, and moving really fast fighting, powering up, and that's it. I can't think of an interesting power from Dragonball that isn't "Bullshit invincibility Goku needs to get through somehow".
Can we have a Dwarf discussion thread?
Specifically, the topics that tend not to get discussed in most settings;
Dwarven cuisine, ship-building, things like that?
>>51950407
>Dwarven ship-building
Pumice is one hell of a material.
>>51950407
lots of mushrooms
i want to play dwarf fortress now
>>51950407
even though its a littlw obvious i think the Viking ships are perfect. they have a blocky looking hull and the crew os exposed to the elements, which dorfs wouldnt give a fuck about
also its powered by dwarf muscles
maybe ones without sails
Okay /tg/
All of your miniatures have come to life now. They have all of their powers and their weapons are fully functional....
....but they're still the size of a miniature and their firepower is scaled down. They all want to kill you. Can you win?
>>51943384
Radiation burns, probably poisoning. Collecting Skitarii would hurt.
Of course, only the Transuranic Arquebus would have the range for it. Everything else I probably have covered by just throwing things at them.
I mean, you'd basically be an Emperor-class titan in relative scale, and anything you throw at this - y'know, like a literal pie plate - is basically a D-weapon. Unless they have something like a D-weapon themselves that would actually be as powerful as a real-life gun, you're probably fine.
>>51943409
Got a picture of them?
I don't own any miniatures. Too poor.
>Wizard shoots some fire at you and does 20d6 at 20th level
>Barbarian hits you with an axe and does 1d8+5 at 20th level
No self respecting Barbarian would be doing that little damage. They would still be doing less, slightly offset by their ability to do so reliably. Then again, pic related is why talking about HP is kinda irrelevant.
>>51934003
That isn't what minmaxing means though lol
>>51933956
>Wizard at power level 10 fires a PL 10 Ranged Area Burst Damage fireball
>Barbarian lifts a massive hunk of earth from the ground and throws it at Wizard for Ranged area burst damage 10, or thunderclap Affliction 10 to rattle the fuck out his brains, or knock him on his ass just by stomping the ground
Feels good to play Mutants and Masterminds 3e, where incredible Strength actually means incredible strength.

So, fa/tg/uys, have we heard anything from the devs recently?
Sounds like no. I think WW's had a dry spell lately.
Don't new WoD owners dislike Exalted as an idea?
> dead game
>>51912340
That is pretty annoying. I vaguely recall hearing that the devs had some personalt shit going on some time ago, but it'd still be nice if the team put some effort into keeping people interested in the game.
