I like to think of myself as a creative kind of guy, but when somebody told me to make up some spells that aren't just combat related, I was fucking stumped.

Guess I'm pretty retarded. How do you come up with ideas for spells/special powers that aren't focused around combat?

It starts with teenage girls. At 14 or 15, the age when in our present world girls are waking to an awareness of their own sexuality tangled up in all the ways society will seek to stifle or exploit it, Alderman has them come alive to the thrill of pure power: the ability to hurt or even kill by releasing electrical jolts from their fingertips. “Something’s happening. The blood is pounding in her ears. A prickling feeling is spreading along her back, over her shoulders, along her collarbone. It’s saying: you can do it. It’s saying: you’re strong.”

Footage of girls electrocuting men floods the internet; uncontrolled individual outbursts swell into the knowledge of collective power as more girls learn how to harness this strange new ability, and show older women how to awaken it too. Men start to give teenage girls a wide berth on the street; boys are segregated into single-sex schools for their own safety. The phenomenon is blamed on nerve gas, witchcraft, an anti-male conspiracy, a mystery virus; it’s assumed that an antidote will be found and the “normal” balance of power restored.

But every individual exercise of power contributes to power relations as a whole, and change is unstoppable. The victims of sex traffickers turn on their assailants. There are revolutions in Riyadh and Delhi. Oppressed women assume that divine intervention has saved them from the hell-on-earth of their previous existence, and a new religious leader is ready and waiting to feminise faith: “Jews: look to Miriam, not Moses ... Muslims: look to Fatimah, not Muhammad. Buddhists: remember Tara, the mother of liberation. Christians: pray to Mary for your salvation.” Armies become female, to harness and exploit girls’ natural aggression; sexual violence flows in the other direction now. Drugs are developed to heighten the power, and porn created to fetishise it.

And then the first man develops pyrokinesis.

The PCs are, of course, all male.

I'm doing an impractical inventions dwarf for a character in d and d. Anyone have any impractical or gimmicy weapons/items/suits of armor ideas. Im ready to brainstorm if you are.

So, I'm about to start a 13th Age campaign, and a player wants to be a Barbarian.

I told him Barbarian is kinda terrible, and that he'd be better off with Stalwart, and I showed him that class. Nope, he wants a Barbarian. I tried to convince him to go Fighter, and nope, he wants a Barbarian. So let it not be said that I don't work with my players. I want to fix Barbarian for him, so he can play one.

What's the best way to go about this? Their biggest problems are, as I understand, low AC with not enough HP to make up for it, their Rage has too high a recharge and thus basically can only be used once a rest (and it's not even that great), and they get nothing interesting at all from leveling up, making them boring on top of underpowered.

Now, the first question to ask: Anyone with experience in 13th Age, in your opinions, is Barbarian cripplingly underpowered, or can they still function as a class and offer fun gameplay? Would they need a full party, or can they get by with only one or two other PCs (assuming encounters are built with there only being two PCs in mind)? If yes for both, I don't really need to tweak it other than trying to make it more interesting.

How does one play a lawful neutral paladin without a deity, I know a good example of one would be Judge Dredd, but I need tips, ideas, and anything that could help me in this time of need would be greatly appreciated!
