Dance of Death never ever.
>>55144039
I highly doubt it was ever gonna reach that, if you look at the kickstarters the end goal gets lower and lower.
Personally some of these models this kickstarter was meh... to be honest. They really gotta put some kickass new models we haven't seen in a while to really get people to give money to.
Just my two cents.
>>55144425
Yeah sadly they probably won't get near the goal they wanted for this KS but as you said there really weren't all that many super cool models in there.
I'm backing it just because I'm starting to get into mini painting and I think itll be nice to have all these later on just so I have stuff to paint.
Any interesting ways to avoid turn-based combat in RPG design? This never fails to trip me up when I'm drafting up a game.
>>55142486
Not without it devolving into anarchy.
>>55142486
Program a video game instead.
Literally impossible unless you are using a computer or LARPing.
Closest you can get is something like the Infinity wargame's Active Turn / Reactive Turn.
As a nidfag, The Swarmlord pisses me off
Everything about him is so uninspired. The name is just a variation on "Broodlord" and doesn't sound like a name that would be coined in-universe by people who faced it (unlike with other nid characters)
Design-wise he's just a tyrant, but with more of what a tyrant already has (one extra horn, one extra tongue, one extra beard-horn, one extra stinger, and three extra swords) it's so fucking cheap and unimaginative. And the miniature has even less variations. The swords aren't even different from each other so you don't get the idea that there's anything special about them.
And the fluff, obviously, is the worst part. He's just a tyrant, but stronger and smarter. So strong and smart in fact, that APPARENTLY the Norn Queens need to summon him (oh yeah cause now tyrants are like deamons who download themselves into a body or someshit) to win battles cause he's somehow smarter than them. Smarter than a Dominatrix even.
And keep in mind that the Hive Mind is universal. Which means that EACH hive fleet has access to the ENTIRETY of the tyranid race's knowledge. But apparently that's not enough. Gotta call upon the Swarmlord cause he's smarter than everybody else combined.
And how do they show that he's super smart? By having him job against Marneus Calgar and other heroes.
So we've got a guy who's supposed to be the "face" of the entire Tyranid race, but looks even blander than a cheaply-converted tyrant, has no gimmicks or character traits aside from his extra swords, has the least impressive name of all tyranid characters, and can't even be assed to do what he was designed for because he spends his time duelling with assholes who end up killing him, despite supposedly being smarter than everyone.
He's like John Cena if John Cena constantly ended up jobbing.
Wow.
He's just an in-game asset. Everything else was crudely slapped together afterwards and we're supposed to be impressed by that. I find that offensive.
yea
If you were a real nid player you would be crying about how useless half your models are.
What can I use a d30 for? Who makes the best d30s? What is the best color? How many do I need?
>>55142468
Sage. A thread died for this.
A useless die for useless people. A lot like the d20 actually.
Hang on to that D30, if you combine it with a D3 you could make most of a D100.
Does your setting have any unique alcoholic beverages?
>>55142174
In my Burning Wheel campaign, there's a running joke of Orcish beer basically being a chemical hazard. Orcs can stomach it but not only will it hospitalise most others, it also has a tendency to eat its way through the mug as you're drinking.
>>55142476
How do Orcs drink it if it eats through all the mugs

Why so many RPGs feature memetic and antimemetic adversaries? They would be perfect for lovecraftian horror style games.
Memetic enteties are ones that once you know about them, or have seen their photo start affecting your. Mere knowledge about them have a measurable effects.
An antimeme is an idea with self-censoring properties; an idea which, by its intrinsic nature, discourages or prevents people from spreading it.
Examples can be found on various SCPs
http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-426
http://www.scp-wiki.net/we-need-to-talk-about-fifty-five
http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-2256
Why I have never seen monsters or encounters based on them? Have any of you tried to use them in your games?
That sounds really difficult to pull off in any capacity.
Best I can think of is something that, once the PCs make mental contact with it, tries to spread itself as an idea. Could involve will saves to prevent changes to the players' speech to deliver subliminal messages. However it would need a diabolical endgame to work.
What about an entity that steal player memories:
Memories=exp/skills
The longer the fight goes on the more levels/skills they lose.
Or this is too cruel? And players will rebel?

The Story
After the 23 Seconds a group of Runners of New Angeles decided that the Corps' reign over the city was too dangerous for everyone. Therefore they decided to destroy their power structure for good and bring down the Corps' systems in a coordinated attack. This group called themselves the "Vox Populi" - the voice of the people. The Corps however learned what was brewing in The Shadow Net and formed a cooperative group as well: The "Crisis Union". Tasked with defending the status quo and destroying the hacker resistance they formed ranks against the coming storm.
Behind the Story
Struggle of Balance is a campaign in which two players assume the role of a group of Runners and Corps to fight over the ten districts of New Angeles. In each match they compete for a different district each with a unique constant ability. The winner of a match is granted access to the resources of that district in the form of a Bonus card they can use for later matches. The first player who wins six games wins the campaign.
The rule book is six pages long is followed by print pages that contain new card types that are used in the campaign. Finally, the campaign includes a range of variants that can be used to enhance the play experience.
>>55141042
>>55141093
Oh yeah, I saw that, looks cool - especially like the way you get bonuses for taking different parts of the city - even outside the campaign itself, it seems like something that's not only good, but that you could adapt as well
Lovely new card art, shame the card's a bit naff
"Big John" got a hearty chuckle out of me.
Really liking some of the ideas here (Qunide could make a cool non-campaign card with some work).
Really need to give that and Watchdog a good test run, but the only other players here interested in doing it are in about as much of a work crunch as I am. Probably won't before the end of September we can dedicate a whole day to that.
Can I target my opponent?
>>55141017
Neckbeards don't count as humans silly
>>55141017
Your opponent isn't a creature so no.
>>55141017
Your opponent is a player, not a creature. Also, "destroying" a player has no context in the MtG rules. You can only win by reducing a player to 0 life at the end of a phase, or by winning the game, or by giving your opponent 10 or more poison counters. "Destroying" your opponent is a non-existent concept.
...fuck I just typed all that out in response to bait.

E or I
GURPS is a point-buy universal game. The basic task resolution is 3d6 roll-under stat or skill. You can do just about anything using the basic set, but if you branch out and buy a supplement, 99% of the work is done for you.
Read LITE first. You can run a variety of games with it, and I have. Probably best to use as the teaching tool for neophytes, as well.

---
What campaigns are you running, GURPSgen? I'm running a Fallout campaign, starring a group of raiders and their pet deathclaw. I put it together mostly using the After the End supplement for templates and radiation rules. I'd been looking for concept art and fallout-esque art to use for them, since it's an online game, but I have had a hard time finding a good collection.
>>55140418
Once my Fantasy box comes in (or someone leaks the PDFs to backers) I'm going to try and resurrect a game an online GM ran years ago: Pirates of Dark Water meets Panzer Dragoon Orta.
What always stood out to me about it was that characters were 125/-25, but we felt competent. Damn me if I can't remember what he did to make that feeling though.
Dat subject field, lmao
Anyway, I'm running an industrialized fantasy game focusing on freebooting/smuggling and supernatural monster hunting. So far 4 sessions in it's awesome and fairly bizarre.
Have you ever loved a system, yet said system suffers from stupid rules? They don't come near muddying the game as a whole, and homebrew solutions are easy to do, but they still just peeve the fuck out of you?
That's pretty much how exactly how I feel with Mutants and masterminds 3e's Absent Stamina/Construct rules:
>Hero's handbook says that all Constructs fail Affects Objects Fortitude checks by their maximum degree and do not get to do extra effort (even though it refers to Constructs as minions and as if PC Constructs do not exist).
>Because of the "maximum degree of failure" rule
>Power Profiles basically recommends that you never use Absent Stamina for robot hero or villain characters and take the full Fortitude Immunity with its Tech Powers section.
>Despite the above, Hero's Handbook and various other supplements still use Absent Stamina for hero and villain PCs as examples for characters
>Gadget Guides Mecha and vehicles state that they can use extra effort but with different conditions applying to them for each tier of exhaustion...still nothing on characters that are constructs.
>Did I mention that the Gadget Guides also points to the Power Profiles example seen above
>Transform has a clause which says Constructs like characters should get a resistance check...and doesn't mention which check.
>Zombies with Absent INT/CHA stats apparently get a flat +0 against the DC for the the Turn Undead spell for Power Profiles.
The list of inconsistencies goes on. The only actually reasonable ruling I've ever found for things like Corrosive and Melting is that 2e FAQ says that character constructs use Toughness instead of Fortitude(which is how it should be in my opinion).
>>55140139
Also don't even get me started how the Energizing Healing Powers in Power Profiles completely ignore the "you cannot use it to remove fatigue from yourself" rules with Total Self Healing, Psychic Vampirism, etc.
>>55140139
I never really got into that game much, is it good? I've been considering doing some super hero stuff but thus far I'm thinking of just waiting around for aberrant 2e
>>55142667
Despite the inconsistencies, it's one of the better superhero systems available. It also gives a lot of great GM advice throughout all the books that really help with the few problems the system has. It's also still getting support to this day with new supplements and even a simplified player handbook this October.
A decent number of people actually use it to run DnD-esque games since it's a very flexible and customizable system, and the Gadget guides+Power Profiles are loaded to the brim with all kinds of fantasy magic stuff.
Old one 404'd, and by god I want to see more parties! Template is pic related.
Just finished this one. The game ended months ago, but I was never in the mood to make a DYP of it until now.

I know lots of us have wanted to see a new D&D cartoon come out for a long time, but are you guys ready for I'M SAD: The Series?
>The series aims to turn the comic into a professional, high quality cartoon. Co-writing it with me, are Matt King and Phil LaMarr (their names link to their IMDB pages) who will also be doing voice work in the show, along with a list of other big names voicing the various characters.

>>55139785
This still exists?
well its confirmed we are shit out of Luck when it comes to getting Our kickstarter Things.... http://www.spartangames.co.uk/spartan-games-update
>>55139784
Thinking about Spartan's track record of releasing and then immediately abandoning game after game and ruleset after ruleset, this really can't come as much of a shock, can it?
I just hope I manage to grab some Armada minis going cheap. I still enjoy the game, so if I can get enough together to have two viable fleets relatively cheaply, it'll basically just be a boxed game I can pull out whenever I'm in the mood for some light space combat.
