What could be a good system for playing a gantz campaign?
GURPS
Not GURPS.
Maybe GURPS
How would you handle an encounter with the truly unknown?
>>52054660
I don't know, how would you?
By using my edge to cut a bitch.
Roll for SAN loss, anal circumference, and firearms damage.
So /tg/ how do you like to do tabletop adventures themed after westerns?
Does running adventures that were basically medieval reskins of Seven Samurai and Yojimbo count, if I instead said they were medieval reskins of The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars?
>>52054014
But that's still medieval themed instead of western themed. OP wants western themed.
So instead run The Knights of the Round Table, or Beowulf, but with gunslingers and robber barons and trains and sheeit.
>>52053929
Weird West. Bring on the folklore. My buddy runs these all the time. We've fought wendigos, vampires, weregators, shape shifting native americans, steampunk super soldiers, and brainwashed Mormon cults.
Right now we're playing one set in Louisiana, and I've got a redneck swamp dweller Van Hellsing. He's seen some shit in them woods, and everyone thinks he's just had a little too much moonshine. But he knows.
What kind of cool story could you do with a fantasy Stonehenge?
>>52052538
Fae Stargates
Layline nexus
>>52052538
I've got a few.
>Extra powerful summoning circle
>Portal to other plane
>Is the hub of multiple portals (each arch goes somewhere)
>Resurrection area. Dead bodies left there come back to life.
>Fantasy Halo-esque super weapon.
>Meeting place of the Gods.
>Prison containing an ancient evil
>Just a pile of rocks that everyone thinks is important.

It's too early to make plans(and buy boxes) for a Fallen army?
How exactly would a dragon fly? I don't mean the logistics of flight but like, when it's in the air would it be flapping its wings constantly or gliding with spaced out flaps?
>>52051514
A mix of both, I'd imagine, like birds. Dragons would look quite goofy if they flew like bats.
>>52051668
Let me say, as a random anon, that smaller dragons could actually fly like bats! Ones closer to human size, potentially with only two legs, would actually make logical sense to flap like a bat.
Back on topic, dragons would flap to get off the ground initially, then glide due to XBOXHUEGE wings.
>>52051723
>Ones closer to human size, potentially with only two legs, would actually make logical sense to flap like a bat.
So you mean Wyverns, not Dragons.
How does one make a creature with animal intelligence seem creepy? What are some strategies for getting the maximum unsettling vibes from a creature just doing its thing?
Parasites.
>>52051370
Yeah, parasites are pretty creepy. A decent suggestion. Anything that hijacks a creature's control over its own body, really. Give the animal cordiceps-like mind control fungus.
>>52051341
Leeches, Mosquitos, Spiders, Centipedes etc.

Heavily modified Kingmaker.
GM was kind of an edgy shit for a while (way too into Game of Thrones for his own good) and most of the players just circlejerked over politics and tried to "prove" Communism could work.
I played the proverbial "ninja in a political intrigue game" by rolling a Bard-barian and ended up living happily with the knightess the GM had intended to be the main antagonist.
>>52051090
I wish I knew.
>>52051126
Heya, if the GM let you get away with that, they don't sound that bad.

>Question
Name Something that your favorite game line got right from the beginning and did they keep with that?
>>52048097
Challenges in many forms are supposed to happen, combat is one of them. Saying it's fine because lol combat is a non answer. If the PCs can't be threatened in any way the the game has no stakes and is worthless.
If I have to break the rules to fix the game. It's the game having issues and having innate problems stop acting like mage is perfect. It's not. It has one of the biggest flaws in the game. You have to restrict your players in order to make the game fun.
>>52048031
Of course there is. One just needs to make boosting Withstand and Counterspell viable alternatives in combat. That alone would make fights much more interesting.
>>52048033
>fights are quick and dirty
There is world of difference between "quick and dirty" and "first to cast wins".
>>52048097
Game can't be "not about the fighting" because of shitty mechanic. It's the other way around - shitty mechanic prevents game from being about those awesome things.
I liked Promethean's emphasis on the journey, both physical and spiritual. They kept it and also made it so you didn't have to skip town too quickly in the new edition.
Last thread started with focus on Frenzy+Madness mechanics, thread before that was about the combat system. This time I want to go back to skills, and make sure they're all valuable enough. I know I want Insight to be a skill, and even if you needs a bunch of additional character abilities/feats to actually be GOOD at seeing the paranormal that still sets the bar pretty high for other skills being anywhere near as useful.
BESTIAL
-Ferocity: Intimidate, damage on visceral attacks, prerequisite for visceral attack techniques.
-Stalk ("Stealth"?): Avoid detection.
-Instincts ("Awareness"?): Oppose stealth, intuitively sense when a situation is dangerous.
-Hunt ("Scent"?): Track & seek out prey using keen senses & intuition.
-Fitness: Climb, swim, jump, etc. Traversal speed (win a foot race), possibly speed of action (win a quick-draw contest).
-Stature ("Brawn"?): Physical size & amount of musculature. Doesn't determine physical strength, but useful when trying to keep a door shut, hold someone down, etc. Prereq for combat feats and heavy hunter weapons?
MUNDANE
-Decency: find empathy/humanity within yourself and inspire it in others. Can potentially be used to mess with those overcome by Bestial or Cosmic fervor.
-Weapon Handling: fancy weapon tricks and mechanisms. Determines level of weapon complexity your character can handle. Maneuvers like transforming a weapon mid-combo require a successful Weapon Handling roll.
-Firearms: Gear stat for acquiring & using firearms.
-Pyrotechnics: Gear stat for acquiring & using explosive and other incendiaries, or just making a great roaring bonfire.
-Manipulation: Get them do what you want, and/or deceive them.
-Craftsmanship: Fashion weapon, restraints, barricades, contraptions... Gear stat for acquiring (and modifying) melee weapons.
-Investigate: Detective work as well as "reading" others. Opposes Deception. Search for & analyze clues, make deductions based on evidence, gather info (or perhaps more "HAS" gathered info, i.e. you know the secondhand word of mouth on a topic?).
-Streetwise: Know your way around Yharnam- your current location, all the routes you could take to some OTHER location, and the mundane significance/purpose/history OF various places in the city & immediate surroundings.
COSMIC
-Insight: Perceive the paranormal. (low successes mean you just see glowing lights or know there's SOMETHING there.)
-Arcane: Gear stat for acquisition and use of "spellcasting" items, other Occult Implements like Micolash's puppets and mirrors. and for use of many other strange consumables like bolt paper. Also used to conduct rituals, if those are a thing GM includes?
-Occult ("Lore"?): Knowledge of things Byrgenwerth specialized in. Know about things like the Tomb of the Gods? Recognize a pthumerean and what their deal is? Also gear stat for acquisition of elixirs & other strange consumables.
-Entreat: Sense proximity/nature of intangible entities, and call upon or pacify them? Spirits, Messengers, potentially attention of great ones? Functions more like social skill than anything. Miiiiiight be use stat for a portion of "hunter tool" items, or merely a secondary skill roll? (You use Arcane to blow the Madras Whistle, and Entreat to see how enthusiastically the snake responds?)
-Medicine: Everything that ISN'T about blood healing. Treat and/or inflict poison, other maladies. Gear stat for acquiring & using poisons and antidotes, and for using stranger medicines like elixirs.
-Blood Work ("Ministration"?): Everything involved with blood ministration, healing, refinement, knowledge thereof. Gear stat for acquiring blood vials and quicksilver. Ministration abilities let you give your blood vials special perks and grants further healing when others let you administer blood to them (especially outside combat)
-Wayfinder: Navigate Forbidden Woods, dreamlands, tomb of the gods, other surreal & mazelike environments. Methods of traveling between worlds may require a follow-up check using this skill to determine how optimal your destination is.
