What's so bad about it? I was thinking maybe having trigger on 7+ but there's a fair few things that just skip straight to MW like WLC or Starsouls.

With that rule you have to successfully charge, hit and roll high for wounding. Far from the point and click that MW usually are.
>>
>>55168728
It seems strong. Maybe have it work like bonesplittaz stuff and it ONLY works when the dice show a six, IE unmodded rolls. I also feel that it might be a bit overkill to include anything more than that but I'm not 100% sure

I finished up Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan and I had a blast running it. Unfortunately the players missed a lot of stuff in their fervor to escape the poisonous gas.

Sunless Citadel is still on top though. That shit's a timeless classic.

>What's the best dungeon you've ever experienced? What made it great?

An adamantine mountain dungeon. The thing was hollowed out by Drow and a Dracolich. We went inside to destroy its phylactery. Turns out there were a fuck ton of rigged statues and glyphs. Who woulda thunk it?

Anyway, every 50 or so feet further, the air would get colder and colder before slowly becoming shitty to powerful ice breath every round. We had to devise a solution to this cave spitting ice breath at us every couple seconds. So my cleric just bought an extraplanar friend and he scooted us through.

The center of the mountain near the top was the phylactery, underneath a swirling maelstrom of ice. Inside was a beating heart with the box inside, defended by a Yochlol.

My DM recently gave our 3rd level party a spellscroll of creation.

The spell says it can create a 5-foot cube of material and precious metals last for one hour.

According to a volume to weight calculator I found, a 5x5x5 cube of gold would weigh 150,000lbs and as one pound of gold = 50gp in the players handbook, we would have 7.5 million gold.

The thing is that gold created by the spell only lasts for an hour.

So we are coming up to the big capital city soon, what's the best thing that could be done with 7.5m gold in one hour?

It's also worth noting that my DM has a setting where magic is outlawed in our current region. So I couldn't buy magic stuff at this city but apparently there's a big magic friendly city north of where we are. In case magic items were part of the plan.

>It's also worth noting that my DM has a setting where magic is outlawed in our current region.

It sounds like you are about to remind the people of that region why outlawing magic was a good idea.

It also sounds like you are about to learn how they enforce that law.
>>
would you even be able to cut the chunk into sellable pieces and sell them with in the hour, as i'm getting vibes that trying to sell the giant cube itself is gonna ping all their "magic senses"
>>
Well it says you can create multiple objects so I assume that as long as the total does not exceed a 5x5x5 cube it's ok.(I hope)

Also we are not on the greatest terms with the law already, so hopefully it would be a buy everything in sight then run away with it.

Guys, I need some opinions. I'm a new DM, running my newbie friends through the starter set. We're one session in. First session went well, and we used no physical maps or minis.

I have a bunch of Warhammer, so using minis isn't a problem. My question is: should I print out the big cool maps and use them for the dungeons? My worry is that they'll see the entire dungeon instead of using their imagination and my explanations. The advantage seems that it would make combat more fun, and people (I think) love having a map to move minis on.

What do you think? I can also try to draw a map as we go, but I'm shit at drawing and obviously the real maps look amazing and have lots of detail.

Either option is fine. There's room for imagination even with maps. You can always say 'behind this wall there's actually a secret door' or something.
>>
>>55167336
I wonder if there's a secret door behind the wall in his image
>>
>>55167312
Print a larger version of the maps and then cut up a blank sheet of paper into 4square chunks, as the players move through the dungeon (you should have a map so you'll be able to know what they can and can't see) remove those paper chunks, before removing the chunks, describe the room.

I presume you are from the US so just for fun I have to ask what does you mean by full contact larp group. Are the members of the group fully in contact with each other on facebook?

no, those are shit. especially if we are literally talking about character sheets.

I think full contact larp refers to combat. Basically one that uses boffers or real weapons with armor for fights rather than something like rock-paper-scissors.

>Is it worth getting into painting if you've never played a tabletop game?
If you git gud at it, you can make it a business and paint minis for other people.
>Also wondering if they sell mini figs of movies or vidya chars.
Rarely unless there's a game associated with it. Like The Hobbit has(or had) a minis line by Games Workshop.
If you scour the web, there are often bootleggers from Russia who will make just about any vidya character you want. Or you could learn to rip the model files from the game and send them to a 3D printing service. If you don't mind paying at least 30 bucks a mini.
>>
If you want to paint minis and it won't destroy your finances then yes it is totally worth it.

Don't let any other faggot tell you otherwise

I guarantee you they don't even play wargames.
>>
it's pretty relaxing. If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer working or doing some other brain-intensive task that doesn't involve working with your hands, a somewhat creative hobby that fills that niche may satisfy you.

Plus, if you get into DnD or something you'll have fun minis to show your friends.

Use my huge to stockpile stuff in preparation for those fucking eldar... fucking slaanesh into existence. Possibly try to warn them and hope at least one fucking listens. Basically load up on the important shit for the eventuality that shit will fall apart.
Also stash as many STCs in uninhabited areas as possible. Actually, fuck it, stash one in between some stars.

This black guy came in with a shitload of unboxed warhammer shit and was selling it at my LGS. I don't why, but I just kind of assumed he was shady and he lifted the stuff from mail order or a game store or second hand place.

I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he came by it fairly, either purchasing it at garage sales or buying it himself, but he had a ton of shit and none of it was clipped or painted.

It just seems like an awful lot of shit to bring into a game store to not have painted or assembled any of it.

Also it didn't help that most of it was eldar

I mean, I know every community tolerates a certain amount of skeezy shit and shady characters, but he seemed to have only cursory knowledge of warhammer...

Am I wrong here? Is this a spade being a spade, or am I jumping to conclusions?

Its not like I'm going to turn him in for lifting some warhammer mini's off the back of a truck or anything, but I just want to know if I have the right instincts..

Yes, OP, you are racist: you doubt your own instincts just because the guy was black.

If it had been a white guy or an Asian guy, you would have (rightfully) assumed he is shady. But because he's black, you second-guess yourself?

RIP Kroot Codex. Give me my birbfrens GW.

Before explaining the situation, I would like to clarify that this was something my players asked for. A couple of weeks ago, we had just wrapped up our previous dark heresy campaign, and as we were packing up our books, the group came to me and asked me if I could ramp up the difficulty. So we arranged to meet up the next day to discuss what kind of adventure everyone wanted. So we met up, and they begin laying out requests. (In our group, the agreement is that the players get to choose the basic details of the game like setting and difficulty levels.) The asked for the following:

1. Tomb of Horrors tier lethality at least.
2. A player driven, sandbox style adventure
3. As much variety as possible in terms of enemies

So yeah, my players are either insane, suffer from suicidal overconfident, or are masochists. In a week we are going to meet up again to play, and I would like /tg/s opinion on the adventure I made. Did I go overboard? They just sent me their character summaries a few days ago, and their group is composed of the following.

Sanctioned Psyker
Adept
Guardsman 1
Guardsman 2
Techpriest
Cleric

Will post adventure Outline in just a moment...

>>
Here is the outline so far:

PCs arrive at Hive Planet, ruled by a group of Noble Houses (at least two of the noble houses are secretly agents of the Slaugth (those maggot-swarm xenos who eat brains and have scary tech). The heads of both of these two houses were both given Halo Devices by the Slaugth as rewards for their continued loyalty. These two noble houses are planning on killing the other houses and feeding all of the poor people to the Slaugth. Additionally, in the underhive, the local redemptionists have declared all-out war against the rest of the hive for being “heretics, mutants, and blasphemers” (which is basically standard behavior for redemptionists anyway). There is currently a five way war in the underhive between the redemptionists, a different redemptionist group that pissed the other off for some reason, the arbites, a chaos cult (who’s leader is an extremely powerful Rogue Psyker) and a coven of deranged hereteks. There is a small Slaugth army in the deepest part of the sewers, waiting for the signal from the traitor nobles to attack. A week after the PCs arrive on the planet, a warpstorm engulfs the entire sector, with most of the planets essentially turning into daemon-worlds. A couple of Rak’Gol warbands who are trapped in the system by the warp storm become devotees of Khorne and begin massacring isolated settlements on the edge of the system, A small CSM warband appears from one of the newly formed warp rifts and begins concerted attack on the planetary capital, If not dealt with previously, the coven of hereteks and the chaos cultists join forces to wipe out the redemptionists, while the Slaugth begin setting up colonies in the deepest parts of the underhive, abducting entire hab-blocks worth of people and eat their brains. Also, I am seriously tempted to have the the Inquisitorial Stormtrooper squad that is escorting them turn out to be Lacrymoles.
>>
If you want to make a deadlier adventure, have them get stranded on a deathworld when the warpstorm breaks out. Then say that every single animal on the planet has become an alpha+ level psyker
>>

How large an influence would you say Michael Moorcock has had on fantasy tabletop games - specifically outside Warhammer?

Was he only influential in Britain, or did Americans take note?

You could more or less posit that he's responsible for the Alignment System in Dungeons and Dragons, and all the endless debates that came with it. But in regards to direct themes and references, I'd say he's only minorly influential outside of Britain. Inside Britain, though, he's the living god of sword and sorcery, or at least that's how he's introduced in all those special editions of Elric.

Which is funny, since most of his protagonists defy the alignment system altogether.

Alignment system was actually due to Poul Anderson's books, and to a lesser extend Gordon R. Dickson.

>Ruling is hard. This was maybe my answer to Tolkien, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?
