Been so busy at work I forgot it was GAMA week, what publisher caught your eye so far this week?
Local cons should be starting up by the end of the month, any plans to attend one/more this year?

>How about what's the worst board game related present you've ever received?
That's actually a good one, have to remember it next time I'm brain dead and don't have a topic starter for new thread. No one really buys me games without asking specifically what to grab, or checking an amazon list anymore, but my brother and I got a copy of pic related when we were kids because they figured we played Stratego a lot so we'd like it. Not really a great game for kids under the age of 10 who'd never played real games.
I would like pictures of "realistic" looking characters. They don't even have to be human or not magical, just attired in real-looking armor or clothes. I'm very sick of spiky, bulky armor, unwieldly swords and axes, or generally cartoonish design.
I'll post what I have
I really like the character designs from The Banner Saga.

Thread Question: What separates a good hexcrawl from a bad one?
I get why they're focusing on 5e in the beginning, but what are the chances of DDB evolving to stretch out into OSR territory with older rule sets and things like that?
As a thalassophobic, I'd love to run a campaign set in Aquasilva (teeny lit fanta-scifi waterworld). I KNOW I can make it terrifying.
What do I need for this? (I use B/X):
>world is 90% ocean, months of travel in organic notSubmarines
>prominent element-based religion stuff, heavy theocratic control
>kinda scifi tech but mostly swords and a few spells
>lots of mercantile and talkie stuff
>sometimes submarine combat
>sometimes tacticool stealth & infiltration
>lost civilizations & artifacts
I guess I can use the naval combat from Expert, but I have no idea on how to turn a dungeon-based game into a political/mercantile/explorey (interesting) game.
Never ran an hexcrawl either, but I'd like to simplify ocean navigation (maybe nodecrawl it instead?).
I'm too used to play D&D like it's Nethack. Halp.
Rate my magic system /osrg/. Casters gain spells per level as normal. These spells can be cast as normal. If a caster wants to be conservative, they can instead roll. In combat, a spell roll is a roll under intelligence test on a d20. Casting a spell like this takes 1 round, and only has significant consequences on a nat 20, otherwise a failed roll is just a failure. A caster not in combat can spend a whole exploration turn casting the spell to automatically pass the roll. Wearing robes and no armour and having your spellbook with you would boost your odds of sucessfully casting in combat. Thoughts?

Question to the people who still play this game, is it Stockholm syndrome?
>>52208139
I'm Khador, I like this game.
There's also no popular wargames to switch for, only skirmishes.
Don't forget CID people, only you can save Witch2 and 3 from aggressive mediocrity.
Not trolling, just a new guy curious. Warhammer and 40k threads tend to pop up a lot and I am thinking of getting into it. My issue is that the lore I have picked up so far varies so wildly in quality and I see it as a huge investment to get into the games. I have only played for fun with my friends, haven't gone down our local game store for games yet.
Is it worth getting into?
>>52207946
It is only, and I mean this, worth getting into if you can invest.
Invest money, time, patience, painting, rules learning, etc.
However, I would wait for about 4 months. 8th edition is on its way, and I don't want an anon wasting a bunch of money, only to have to replace half the stuff.
>>52208104
How much is changing for 8th edition? Do the editions really shift the entire game so much that half the stuff you have becomes useless?
I do have the money and time for it. I am not worried about being able to invest, I am worried if it is worth the investment.
>>52208142
This one apparently will.
Streamline, STORY ADVANCEMENT (never before seen, kek, pls no Age of Sigmar), hopes for balancing of factions (orks suck, tau and eldar roflstomp people right now so.....), and much more.
In general, 8th edition is adding at least one new army, killing off/adding major character, advancing the storyline, and most frighteningly it is putting in huge amount of streamlining. This could mean a new style of army making, potentially more models needed, etc.
So yeah, I would wait it out. The changes will be huge. For good or bad, eh.
Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where you're not sure if you're better off in Huang Di or Svalarheima despite it being the same desolate icy planet.

Somebody give me the low-down on this map. Besides:

>one of every major geographic features
what did I miss?
>>52201259
All the trees are concentrated in one large area.
>>52201259
The rivers are driving me absolutely crazy. Not the running over mountains bit, but I honestly can't tell which way half of them are supposed to be flowing. Is Isenstar a salt lake? Cause it doesn't appear to have any drainage. The Rio Ramr's tributary is going the wrong way, unless the Ramr is flowing away from Isenstar, but then it just ends in the middle of nowhere?
What's up with Lago Leona? It has two rivers connecting it to the ocean, indicating they're both drainage - which isn't possible, you can only have one river draining away from a lake. On the other hand, Rio Toark's tiny branch there seems to indicate it's flowing toward the lake; but then it's flowing inland from the ocean, which also isn't possible.
The tiny lake at the end of the Rio Diente de Oso also looks like a salt lake.
Other rivers and lake at least look somewhat plausible, albeit very wonky. You've basically got a bunch of lakes popping out of nowhere, with rivers running out of them. Usually the latter is true; rivers form from merging of small streams and tributaries in mountains/highlands, then flow out to sea, with lakes forming along the way wherever there's a relative elevation dip.
tl;dr your river and drainage systems are all sorts of messed up.
Been awhile since we had one of these, I just got Temur/5C Tron even though Murasa Tron seems to be doing better atm. I had the former on my radar for some time anyway.

That's not necessarily a bad thing desu. It has bigger card pool (at least technically) than modern and allows for more fun stuff - while letting actual control decks play the game.
I think now is one of the best times for the format. There is no disgusting combo now that the drake is banned and a healthy balance of aggro and control.

What good is a homebrew "unified system" when all it will create is multiple standards akin to that XKCD comic, where nobody can agree on a true standard?
Because that's better than having none at all. At least having a ordered PDF for other game lines is something to work off, even if you don't agree with it.
My group is currently trying to run Rogue Trader through DH2 and while it works most of the time, it's still pretty janky having to refer to a bunch of different books.
What are some useful party skills to have in DH2E? My character has the charisma and social charm of a peeled potato so that's not my strong suit.
