This week's Monday Meeting Notes:
http://theonyxpath.com/whats-the-deal-monday-meeting-notes/
>Question:
So, Network Zero gets their big wish and the Unspoken Masquerade is broken. Humanity finds out about the monsters in the shadows and majorly chimps out. Monsterdom, in return, decides "fuck you all; if I'm going down, I'm taking you with me!" and lashes out with everything they got as people try to wipe them out. How bad do things get for humanity?
>>52252619
Exarchs dispatch Ochemata back in time to brutally excise from existence whatever it is that let the cat out of the bag.
With the cat now firmly back in the bag, your regularly scheduled reality can continue.
Humans win because we have God on our side.
>>52252637
Doesn't mean the world can't take one hell of an ass-reaming before the monsters go bye-bye, though. Freshly woken Mummies can call down meteor strikes and make earthquakes. Hell, werewolves just need to throw up their claws and open the border gates between Flesh and Spirit and humanity will be drowning in hostile spirits.
Six deadly alien races all suddenly appear on an unoccupied but pristine world an equal distance from each other. They are not initially aware of each other. Who would win in a winner-takes-all war between:
Borg
Replicators
Slivers
Tyranids
Xenomorphs
Zerg
>All except one needs meat to reproduce
>One only need raw metal
>None of the others shoot bullets
I'm gonna have to go with Replicators, OP.
Khorne, or the Omnissiah.
Enough blood, enough machine.
>>52250590
>Tyranids
Is there a hive tendril to back them up? Or just a lone pocket of Tyranid? Does the wrap exist here?
>Zerg
Is there a hive/overmind/kerrigan/Evolution-Dude to back them up? Or just a lone pocket of Zerg?
>Borg
Queen or no queen version? I personally hate the queen, but it makes a difference.
>Slivers
About a billion questions need to be answered concerning colours with the other rests, AND can they just freely channel mana (the few that can)? How does MTG magic and Wrap magic interact?
Okay, /tg/. I'm getting weak. I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about getting back into 40k I used to play back when second edition was transitioning over to 3rd. Out of all the armies, I'm leaning more towards the Adeptus Mechanicus. Love the look and from what I've read the playstyle is very methodical and unrelenting. So, everyone. Help me out. Is this a good time to get back into the hobby or the worst? Should I avoid the mire, or can you recommend me the vitriol-proof underwear you so proudly sport? Or is someone secretly aware of some development that would proverbially seal the deal either way?
If it matters, I really like the gunline type army with a good counter punch for close quarters. But fuck the Tau. Used to play Eldar and Space Marines (generic) back in the day.
Pic Related: this fucker is what got my interest primed again. I'm probably going to buy it regardless because I want to build THAT and paint it.
>>52250250
Anon, that is far too long for me to read- save for the last line.
I've decided after my Word Bearers (30k) are done, I plan on building my own Knight House. Just five good old Knights running around, kicking ass.
1850
>>52250250
Look the most important thing about 40k is the people you play with. Go to your flgs and see if you like the scene and the people. The game has more stuff than ever which is awesome, but some stuff is just OP. If the people you play with are in it for the fun, the games will be great. If everyone is focused on winning, the games will suck.
>>52250250
You might consider getting into the Horus Heresy. Basically 7th ed 40k rulebook but with Forge World's HH books (black books for fluff and the latest rules, which get compiled into red rules-only books every couple of black books) instead of codices, and more expensive minis (other than Betrayal at Calth / Burning of Prospero plastics).
It's better balanced and the atmosphere is more like 40k's used to be. 40k's gotten strangely competitive and unfluffy, and also harder to balance because of the increasing numbers of superheavies and flyers. They aren't bad in themselves, but in smaller games you can't take enough stuff to deal with every possible opponent. Oh, and people have gone absolutely nuts with allies (e.g. Space Marines with an Eldar Wraithknight because they're so OP). However, if you have a good group then this may not be an issue.
Oh, and 8th edition could drop this year and it might be similar to the 2nd->3rd edition change. One rumor said that Horus Heresy might stick with 7th while 40k changes over.
What's the most you've seen a player outsmart a DM? What about the reverse?
I was DMing Curse of Strahd, and Strahd was attacking the party in an old tower.
His tactic was simple - while the party was distracted by the vampire spawns, he would use spiderclimb to scale the walls and shower them with fireballs from above, while staying out of the area himself.
The players were already making their saving throws, when somebody asked: "Wait, how high is this tower? Also, how high is this floor? Shouldn't there be a ceiling in the way?"
Oh. Right. Ceilings. I felt pretty dumb.
>>52248214
I find it to be a better experience for everyone not to include such remarks.
>>52248161
>party fighting drow assassins on an airship
>"The ship's moving, right?"
>Yeah, only very slowly though so it's probably around 10 feet per round
>"Okay, if I cast Banishment, when it ends they re-appear where they were before they were banished"
>...right
The worst part is that the Drow they banished was a mage - he came back and cast Fly to save himself but one of them shot him with a crossbow and he failed his save to keep concentration.
Lovecraftian /tg/ and all else go here.

What games are you running/playing right now?
So how are your investigators doing in your Dunwich Legacy campaign runs so far?
>>52248141
I don't know what that is
Some kind of organized play?
How are YOUR investigators doing, anon?
>>52248254
It's the first campaign cycle from Arkham Horror the LCG.Haven't even started on account of not being able to find any copies of the big box + pack 1 anywhere. Only got pack 2 and it should be all gone by now.
Would be nice to have actual organised played events for it though. There should be some considering LOTR (its predecessor of sorts) had it previously.
Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1971. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

If you roll a general reaction roll for an NPC and lets say you visit that same NPC a week later, would you require reaction rolls for things like ask for information or ask for assistance? Or would you just use the corresponding reaction roll from earlier?
>>52240869
I'd say make a judgement call , RRs are do when you don't know the exact reaction an NPC should be played as.
Assuming you wanted to make a new one, and the previous encounter went favorably, give the next one a bonus
>your party is called before the King
>he wishes you to pay his daughter a visit on her way to her fiance's kingdom for their wedding
>she is to die on the road and it is your job to ensure that and to mutilate the corpse
>it seems his daughter is actually one of his sons but incompetent and frail as he is, he'll serve the empire better as a dead princess
>something about the other Kingdom being honor-bound to keep their end of the deal in the face of such "misfortune"
>the King was told you were the men for the job so he does not expect you to decline
What would your current party/character do?
Is there gold? then bitch gotta die.

Daily reminder that:
The UFP allows Star Fleet officers to kill people in cold blood and face no consequences.
The attitude that twins only count as 3/5 of a person is perfectly acceptable.
It's perfectly fine to abduct and experiment on sapient life forms if they aren't made of meat.
Technology is the only measure of a civilization that matters, if you fall beneath an arbiter threshold of technological capability you are not real people.
Notions of "Cosmic Plan" and "Destiny" are used when creating policy.
The rights, safety and lives of citizens even on a grand scale of the UFP are worth less than scientific curiosity and appeasing foreign aggressors.
>>52237472
When can we stop pretending that UFP isn't just a space soviet union?
When can we see the forced labor planets?
>>52237472
Yep. I don't get why people assume the UFP is an inherently good institution. It exists to self propagate. And that often requires acts of inhuman cruelty or beireaucratic dispassion.
Does that make the UFP evil? Not necessarily. The good certainly outweighs the bad. But the UFP is certainly an expansionist empire, just under a different name and using different methods.

Topic: Player shenanigans; do you roll with the punches, or slap them down?
Shit man, i'm just a fuckin first time GM, i trusted my players too much since i've known them for years.
I didn't expect the quickening guy to lie and cheat his way to bwing the biggest stat stick around.
>>52235926
Okay, so there's a few things that have gone wrong there. First of which is allowing initiation during character creation. Literally the only time it should be allowed is to allow rigger technomancers to submerge for their control rig and even then it's better from a balance perspective to have them go into karma debt at the start of the game to afford it.
Anyway, the major reason to slap your player and tell him to roll it back is that he would've had to roll for the spell hits, and doing that away from the table is shenanigans. Also, strictly speaking quickening isn't on the list of things you can do with your remaining karma during character creation.
>>52236159
You can never trust players omae. Never.
Can demons fall in love with humans, /tg/?
>>52235523
Pic related, but I'd say no. Demons are creatures made out of pure evil, what they might call love will turn out to be only a sick, twisted pantomime of honest emotion. If you're okay having an abusive relationship with a cold-blooded sociopath who'll never truly love you, then have at, I guess?
>>52235627
Huh, I must have pushed cancel instead of open when I selected the pic.
>>52235523
Evil love.
At 12:00pm GMT, frequenters of 4chan living in that time zone, heard an ominous message in an unnatural and inhuman seeming voice; and no one else could hear it. That message said simply, "one hour". Some instinctively gathered supplies and equipment, not knowing exactly to expect. Despite the warnings, and the vague sense that they would be leaving earth as the hour passed, others panicked and refused to accept the message. At 1:00pm GMT, everyone that had used the website in the last three months was removed from the planet earth in bright flashes of light. In each time zone, as clocks struck 12:00pm, identical events took place. Once those on the eastern United States disappeared, the rest of the world began to believe.
You're one of these people, you've been given the carrying capacity of 90.00 Kilos or half of that plus one other human being that you personally can reach within the time. What do you bring with you? Who do you bring with you? How do you survive?
No matter what particular time they left earth, the members began to reappear in waves upon an alien world. The members were organized by the board they were most attached to, if they cared for none of them, they simply were clumped with whatever board they most visited. Each board had a unique starting area of roughly 150 to 250 square miles and grew with each wave. Only 5% of a board's total population was in the first. These were mostly in large bands placed far apart from one another, though there were always stragglers. The next waves started small, adding 1.25% of the board's total population to the area in smaller bands then before. The next was 1.6%, after that, 1.9%, and so on spreading further and further out. This resulted in frequent power struggles as fresh technology, people and resources clashed with establish power structures forming in the wastes of alien ruins. The capabilities of the people in each wave varied wildly as people from all walks of life found themselves in both unknown and dangerous territory as the world was cultivated by humankind.
The land populated by the denizens of the Traditional Gaming board known as /tg/, is a harsh, wooded, jungled and mountainous region filled alien ruins, dangerous beasts, deadly diseases and drenching weather. To the west lies a vast wooded area, dark and foreboding. To the east, the ocean, and perhaps other humans. To the north, a foreboding mountain range. And finally, to the south, plains and marshland. The largest settlement formed in ruins near a river high in the hills where the winds are fierce and strong
It has been one year since the first wave arrived, and much has been learned but more is needed. You've struggled and fought and killed your fellow man at times. But three settlements now dot the land along with an outpost by the sea. the Battle of Cadia is over. The fourth wave is underway.

Soon.
Since dwarfs will probably be a hot topic for the near future I'm asking what's the deal with more high tech dwarfs of the old world
where are they
what technological point did they reach
what are the relations with other dwarfs and their view of mythology/religion
possibly about the less chaos aligned ones; I'm mostly interested in zhufbar if I got it right.
>>52196457
The castle looks rather high-medieval for Dwarves, but still very nice. And Karak Hirn always deserves a little love.
>>52196538
Those are AoS dude, not Old World. They're probably going to be engineers ensnared by warp magic or something, like the Broken Lords of Endless Legend.
