It breaks convention and "invalidates martials", which mythically could pick up fucking cliffs (Beowulf, Cuchulain, etc) but in tabletop can't do anything more than swing every turn or some grognards flip their shit because of muh realism.

These same conventions left unbroken will cause a different group of grognards to flip their shit because it's all so derivative and tired.

In short, you can't please almost any TTRPG fan and should instead try to make the game you want with whatever classes/classlessness/moves you want because at the end of the day, if your group is having fun, fuck everyone on the internet.

So for the longest time I've wanted to play a necromancer in a friends campaign. With any luck it looks like I might get the opportunity soon. Thing is, I don't want to play the atypical super evil army of the dead type. Originally I was thinking of playing it off as more of a detective, conjuring spirits as witnesses and such. The only problem is, I don't think theres enough use there so I'm looking for other ideas for how I could play an interesting necromancer. what do you guys think?

Indeed, a part of me wonders what would cyberpunk look like if you had to go farmville America.

You have a few rich people who have property because it's fashionable to own a ranch but the actual farms are handled via drones and what not and are basically corporate gated communities except without the massive skyscrapers and cleaner smelling air.

Perhaps you have a great deal of people living of the grid kit bashing various pieces of tech in their isolated hovles such as hooking up a solar panel to their server cluster they built in an old barnshed. while they live in communes that do subsistance farming because they typically don't get enough money to afford a lot of the expensive food items or they live in such isolated places it's not worth going into town proper

Wild life types ride around on retired horses that were given a second life, as it were, given a number of cybernetics designed for their bodies while the rangers themselves where high tech survival suits.

Pirates bribed by megacorps, organ harvesting, resource wars, anything like that.

If anything it lends itself better to those scenarios.

ok so, im making a homebrew where players can "create their own spells" they will have these symbols as base and can combine them in a "programming language" kind of way, not pictured but in use, you can use letters, numbers and even full words if needed, there is an example of what i kind of want players to do (tho they will surely find a way to fuck it all up)
i need some help thinking if i need more symbols for other things, and i want you to create a few spells if you can to kind of see what you can come up with
between 3-6 symbols would be okay (conditional , and , or & then do not count as a symbol by themselves)

So to get the conversation started, I don’t know if this has been discussed in any detail but there was this cool little throwaway mention of Beast cultists in the Alaitoc fluff. As in, when the Beast smashed through the Imperium during the WotB some of the people on the worlds he conquered turned quisling and started worshipping the Beast (or would it just be the Orks in general).

It sounds strange, but when you think a little bit it kind of makes sense. It fits with one of the major themes of 40k, which is that humanity is willing to worship any sufficiently powerful being that they don’t understand. I mean, just look at how the vanilla Imperium views the Emperor, or genestealer cultists view the Hive Mind. Heck, we even describe the Hive Mind here as “kinda god-ish, if only because it’s the best descriptor the human mind has for a psychic entity of that size”.

It seems like something interesting to elaborate on. Something that would have been an absolute pain in the ass to eradicate during the Great Hunt/Reconquista/whatever, and whose existence would be utterly confusing to the Imperium (as in “We can see why people would find Chaos tempting. But worshiping a fucking ork?)

So what were they like? Chaos cultists, but replace Chaos with Orks? Digganobz? The “livestock” of the Beast Arises series with Stockholm Syndrome? All of the above, depending on various factors?
