So can someone help me with the Fallen London Jump? I find the whole thing more than a little confusing...

>half orc fighter tries to convince bug bears to switch sides
>does I legitimately good speech with god tier role play and put forth a decent argument that would appeal to bug bears using his understanding of goblinoid culture and even speaking in their language
>rolls for the persuasion
>rolls a 10

as a DM what do you do?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Give advantage and allow them to roll again with bonuses.

Or, if the speech was good enough, just allow it through without the roll.

Being a GM isn't being a computer in a Obsidian RPG. You don't base it just on how high their CHA bonus is.
>>
Give him an advantage for roleplaying, since I'm playing a good system.

>>52430380
if he rolls with again with bonuses again and gets a bad roll would you bypass it and let it slide or would you take the word of the dice?

if you decide he fails, how do you role play it?

So i friggin love the oozes in D&D. in fact one of my favorite unapogeletic gods in D&D is Juiblex. However the biology of oozes always confuses the hell out of me. I understand why blund weapons woulnt do much to an ooze but why cutting it into pieces kills it? Cant it just crawl back together?

Does there exist a system modeling the late bronze-age collapse?

These are the eight civilizations of the time. During the span of only a few years, seven collapsed, leaving only the egyptians in a severely weakened state.

what might have caused this destruction
>>
>>52428962

That is not actually such a bad guess, the time period matches the exodus and their invasion of what became Israel. Still, while they may have played a part in weakening Egypt, it's hard to see how they could be responsible for the total collapse

How would you play a character that serves the god of sloth? A fundamentally lazy and unmotivated person, forced out to go do some adventuring shit for reason he neither understands nor cares about. I'm building a character with this concept and am unsure how to properly flesh it out/play it in-game.
22 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Motivated, energetic, always willing to do a favor, always trying to find a favor to do for you before you can think to ask. To promote greater sloth in general than he could ever personally achieve.
>>
>>52428732
He wants to become rich so he can live off of his adventuring money and slack off all day.
>>
What if your character decided one day to do SOME stuff to clear up the foreseeable future, but messed up along the way and is now so deep in the fetch/side quest hole he's more or less resigned himself to doing stuff asked of him with mild toothless protests, with the vague and ever slipping goal of getting back to his home and hopefully this time never leaving it again?

I have a vague idea for a sci-fi setting in a post Gray Goo event world. Given technology has progressed to the point that such a thing could happen, I imagined survivors would exist in airships, preying on one another for limited resources, while evading storms that can lift nanoclouds to high altitudes. Additionally high-risk trips to the surface could take place in inert areas for resources that weren't consumed. Even nanobots could be a resource if they could be reprogrammed. Thoughts? What I do need is reasons why grey goo wouldn't be 100% unstoppable.

>>
Grey Goo can't eat water, and there's not a lot of stuff in the air. Also, you can give the Grey Goo a lifespan of only a few weeks so there's a surface chapter to the apocalypse.
>>
>The government has their own areas of hacked / friendly grey goo that maintain safe areas for human habitation.

>Solar flares disrupt grey goo for a short period of time. Giving around three days of safe travel through hostile territory while they repair.

>Grey goo still follows some of its old programming and leaves certain areas unharmed and or follows an old forgotten arms pact treaty / national boarder laws.
>Day light savings time is considered a holiday as the robots go into standby factory reset conditions for the day as they try to possibly fathom the change in time. Locals call it Y2K day ironically.

>Grey goo evolves political and moral standards, some swarms become friendly to humans.

>Mad science has bred rust monsters to combat the grey goo. Tearing rust covered islands out of the sea of silver that was once the planet's surface.

>The goo actually requires some humans for maintenance purposes and or Bodily fluids ala TiTS.

I don't anon, what kind of theme are you looking to build?

>It's a setting where mortals can ascend to godhood
How do you explain that such settings aren't oversaturized with gods? If you have one god, it's an ultra-badass god of everything. With a small number of gods you can still have gods of cool things like fire, the ocean, the winds, justice et cetera. But if the numbers keep swelling you simply run out of cool shit and you get incredibly arbitrary domains that exist purely to make sure everyone feels apprecated. You'd end up with such things as:
>The god of tax returns
>The goddess of the shards after you break a cup on accident
>The goddess of that weird feeling when you're in a train that's going through a tunnel and you realize you've been going backwards instead of forwards
>The god of prime numbers
>The patron deity of parodies of other deities
After a while being a god would mean about as much as being a civil servant.

>How do you explain that such settings aren't oversaturized with gods?

Some people are financially predisposed towards godhood.
>>
>After a while being a god would mean about as much as being a civil servant.
And now you understand mortal. It's been this way for eons pass, in fact Eugene here could tell you all about it being the God of Gods' History.

Now this is your cubicle, you'll be taking over for Fl'thagan as the new Patron God of Weird Names. It's his 500th year and he'll be retiring to Elemental Plane of Retirement.

Good luck in your new role Anon

My main setting I run is like this and its great.I always ascend my player's characters at the end of a campaign, so far we've had a God of Insatiable Greed, God of Unrequited Love, Goddess of Badgers, Goddess of Burning Trees, and God of Dual Wielding Greatswords.

Its fun because there's so many gods bumping around the players have to be careful not to accidentally piss off the God of Dirty Street Urchins when they mess with a homeless dude or whatever. It makes them a bit more accountable. Plus gods make good quest givers and godhood is something to strive for.

You're literally only getting interceptor against units that arrive withing 12" of Coteaz and whatever unit he's joined so it's not nearly as useful as you think. His re-rollable seize is really the only real benefit.

Personally I'd keep the knight to give your opponent something other than your skitarii to shoot at for a few turns. Don't forget they get a 4++ from their ion shields, yea it's directional but it's not hard so long as you position the knight with even a bit of thought.
