In before the shitposters
>>52425130
1. Who are Vance and Minton? Have they worked on Exalted material before? Is their work well-regarded?
2. If I run an Exalted game that's basically my magical realm will people still play. Is this a "build it and they will come" (sorry for the pun) type of situation?
So, last I heard, having a bunch of boring dice-adder charms that do nothing but add math to a game about storytelling while not affecting the content of that story at all is not "bloat". It is not "bloat" because if you cover your ears and pretend a word means something different than what it means, reality will alter itself to conform to you.
Instead, let us consider a reasonable line of thinking. The core charmset is mostly meaningless cruft that is actively slowing (dramatically) the release of new content, because we need a hundred different ways to add one die here or there, but that need to be thematically crooked slightly so as not to seem like copy+pastes from Solar charms, for each and every kind of Exalted that gets released, and every antagonist needs a set of math that makes it the correct amount of challenging for the excessively bloated math of the players.
Thoughts?

Let's talk SR 17!
One scenario at Adepticon:
the zones and flag placement are
Zone is 6" in 15" up
Flags are 12" in 18" up
Circle is direct middle
You must score 6 or more control points than your opponent to win.
If a model can be in more than one zone/flag it can score more than once.
Anything can contest a zone or flag minus the caster/lock.
Rectangle zones can be controlled by Beast, Jacks and Battle engines.
Circular zones are controlled by warrior models.
Flag are controlled by locks/casters.
No more dominating zones or flags.
Units at half strength or less can now control a zone.
After 4th round you roll for end of game and 4+ it ends the game.
So what do you guys think are the odds of PP ever making rules for making your own warlock/caster?
>>52423565
Virtually nil
Using a supers rpg for a tradition medieval fantasy rpg
have you tried it with a system like mutants and masterminds?
>>52422705
Mutants & Masterminds 2nd Edition actually has a supplement called "Warriors and Warlocks" exactly for that sort of thing, so that actually helps take some of the load off.
>>52422705
There's a thread somewhere on GITP where a guy tries to port D&D 3.5 in its entirety into Mutants and Masterminds, in the hope of making 3.5 less broken and gay.
I dunno how it played out though.
>>52426671
>>52422705
The thread is about trying it and being amazed at how well it works.
It works pretty well. Mostly because superhero RPGs are very often just "people with powers" RPGs, and WotC D&D is medieval superheroes anyway.
I've been playing RPGs for about 7 years now almost 4 of which have been with a pay to play GM over skype+maptools who has recently stopped running. It was pretty fun while it lasted and really kept MOST of the players engaged even over that period of time. Whereas free games, while free almost always seem to die within a few levels as the GM deals with real life demands. I actually found the GM through a thread here along with my first group, a couple of whom I still play with. So I got a few questions for you.
1. How do you feel about a Pay-to-Play game of DnD?
2. Would any of you consider playing in a P2P game of DND?
3. What would it take from the GM/Storyteller to make it worth it to you?
For sake of argument let's say the price was $30/month with 16 hours of game time (4x 4hr sessions/month)
After having been in several P2P games I have my own answers to these questions.
>>52421271
if i pay someone i sure as hell ain't gonna ask him to GM D&D.
>>52421311
That's fair, It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea.
>>52421378
Yeah, there's just too many fantasy gms already.
I'd sell an organ for a Shadowrun/Cyberpunk GM who's amazing.
We talk about shit characters and how to make good ones.
>character's only motivation is money
>character is chaotic neutral
>character is a [insert meme animal here]-human hybrid
>character has a revenge backstory
>character is a lone wolf
>"rent isn't gonna pay itself"
>>52417295
>Character is a 1.4 cm tall human
>Player insults you for being an American when you say that you don't think this is a normal human height.
>First session
>"There is no reason my character would join the party"
Then why did you create such a character?
>>52417295
>character has a revenge backstory
Nothing wrong with revenge backstories if they're done well. Sure, a character is probably gonna be shit if their story is: "[important person] was murdered and I am going to get vengeance on the killer, raaah". But you can make them cooler and more fun than that. I'm currently running a gunslinger who's out to get vengeance on a devil who tricked him. He has an obsession with knowledge and technology, and took a bad deal with a devil to learn the secrets of gunsmithing. He got screwed by the devil, and lost an arm and his afterlife. Now he's after the devil to settle things. Not an edgy character in the slightest, the way I play him. Just a man who loves books that made a really bad decision and has to pay for it.
>"rent isn't gonna pay itself"
This one can also be interesting if you expand on it. Just leaving it THAT way, it's shit. But if you make it into something a bit bigger, you can really run with it. A character who is a pawn in a bigger game can often be interesting if they resent the game they're stuck in, but have yet to find a way to break out. i.e. a man who goes off to war to protect what he loves, because nobody else will do it if he doesn't.

>>52414491
>What is the /correct/ way to do Saves?
Saving throws were originally just a stroke of blind luck that saved you when you should've died. To simulate this, just roll a simple d20 and try to get over a number specified by the DM depending on the situation.
No death or breath weapons, no fortitude or will, just a simple saving throw.
>>52414663
Maybe he meant that one would be bad because of a dump stat?
And I think the 3.0 did of *how* to avoid is more instinctive. Maybe a flat bonus where you add the relevant modifier and class modifiers, instead of a good/bad progression?
>>52414491
>What is the /correct/ way to do Saves?
Single category, possibly getting a bonus vs. a particular category depending on class, and modified by your attributes. You get a bonus vs. deadly effects.
Thus, a 3rd level wizard might have a saving throw score of 14. He's saving vs. poison, so he gets the better of 2 rolls (bonus vs. deadly effect) and applies his constitution modifier, if any.
How do we save fantasy /tg/ ?
>>52413366
By enjoying what we like and hate what we don't like.
>>52413366
Give Dorf Fort a tutorial and graphics that visually don't look like the matrix when it glitches.
>>52413366
By not bitching about inevitable change and just let fantasy be whatever you want it to be.
By which I mean, has the whole genre of "middle ages + magic and monsters" become so codified and stuck in its own conventions that it's in creative stagnation?
Personally, I think it has. What's your opinion?
Not really because 90% percent of people who write it don't have a fucking clue about the 'middle ages'. In fact most people who opened this thread probably couldn't tell you the time brakets for the Middle Ages without google. It's from the 5th to 15th century. The beginning and end of the Middle Ages are so enormously different that comparing them is disengenuous.
>>52408628
Okay, I might've painted with too fine a brush there. My beef isn't with the middle ages, it's with the fact that 99% of fantasy settings crank back the technological and social clock to "knights and castles," add a bunch of magic and fictional creatures, then fucking STOP without considering how the shit they added would impact the world they made.
>>52408597
The concept is fine, but the execution fails every time. I don't think it's a problem of stagnation, as much as designers/writers trying to be "creative." Best thing is to return to source materials.
Some solutions for a setting that isn't shit:
- Anthrocentric ("No, you may not play a 1/2Elf, 1/4 Dragonborn, 1/4 Tiefling. You are going to play a male human fighter with brown hair, and you are going to like it.")
- Magic is rare, and it is dangerous
- No anime/Warcraft bullshit art
What do you think when something with the Always Whatever Evil alignment or Evil Subtype goes Neutral or Good?
Love it? Hate it? Don't care one way or another?
I know Fall-From-Grace is the big one people bring up and some times Eludecia but are there others?
I'd say it's necessary to allow Evil outsiders to "rise" if you want Good ones to be able to "fall".
>>52403211
I'm actually fond of it but I believe evil has to go through necessary punishment and redemption so in many cases here you have a 'big villain's it's impossible. After all, no one cares how bad Ulkor the Undying feels about murdering those hundreds of peasants, regret kinda got passed by a while ago
>>52403309
I've always liked it that way
