Things currently in mind for the update include;
>A time extension drawback.
>An option to pick between the comics and show timeline.
>The option to become a robot, alien, or creature.
>A custom weapon purchase so you can make something like Scaramouch's blade.
>Motorcycle purchase.
>Make the Ultrabot companion able to respawn.
>Companion import.
>Remove the 1 active creature limit on the summoning ability.

I want to play out a Holy Grail War (from TYPE-MOON), wherein pairs of Masters and Servants battle until the remaining pair are supposed to get a wish.
The thing I need help with is the Masters.
Unlike Servants, which get discussed exhaustively, I don't have any understanding of the workings of Magecraft.
What it can do reliably, what can be expected of it, nothing.
I need to be able to understand Magecraft, in such a way that it is explainable in a tabletop setting.
Can anyone please help me?

Magecraft is generally different ways of... well, a specific type of scientific study.

The world is filled with an energy called Mana. All creatures with souls have these Magic Circuits that drink of this Mana and slowly, over time, convert it into Od- a fuel for the soul. Od is life force, or ki, or chi, or whatever you'd like to call it. However, magi have discovered that with the right meditation and process, you can *force* your magic circuits to drink way more mana than they should and produce what's called Prana- an active, tangible source of magical energy that can be used to manipulate the world.

Most All magecraft is based on this prana manipulation, and how it relates to different things. One magus studies, say, how crystals and gems work at storing, focusing, and manipulating prana. Another studies how time can be manipulated with prana, etc. etc.

Anyway. How you actually use magecraft is that, well, You kinda shove magic energy into the rules of physics, and force the world to change. Interfering directly with the laws of physics. The more interference, the more prana it takes. The better leverage you have- Elements and Origins both being leverage- the less prana it takes. So if you've got an element of fire, you can basically use that as a stamp to 'stamp' the idea of fire on the world where there isn't any fire. Then, lo and behold, suddenly you've got a fire there.

At least until the world realizes that you've put fire there, and gets upset at you like a GM who's a bit slow to patch his rules to accord for the loopholes you've put in.

You could also do that if you don't have 'fire' as an element, but then you'd need more leverage from somewhere. Such as, for example, having an Origin of 'friction' or something.

>Interfering directly with the laws of physics.
This is the sort of thing I need the help with the most, yes.
Without just giving a magus player a blank check, like a Mage: the Ascension game, unless that is what I'm supposed to do, but Fate's setting doesn't really feel like that, I think.
>>
>>52623604
>>52624483

As for limits and methods, for the most part the 'method' is usually self-hypnosis. A normal human mind's state isn't one that can control magic energy, so you usually recite an aria or incantation- one you've autohypnotised yourself to believe takes your 'safety off', putting your mental state into one that can use magic. Such as Shirou Emiya's "Trace On". Other incantations aren't exactly self-hypnotic, but that's because the other incantations have been used so much by so many wizards that it's kind of worn grooves into reality.

So you enter a state, shove prana into it, carefully shape what you want the magic to do through your intellect and study, and then the effect takes place.

Magic crests, however, are essentially muscle memory for the soul, surgically removed and implanted generations down the line so that the muscle memory is so strong it might as well have been a macro for a videogame. You just stuff magic in, flip the switch, and bang, magecraft done.

The limit for magecraft is actually pretty simple.
>Anything that can be possible in the physical world through science, magecraft can do.
You can shoot a hunk of lead the speed of a bullet, specifically because guns can. You can poison someone else, because there are mechanisms in the world that allow that to happen. There's a thing called Magic or Sorcery, which is completely different, because Magic is specifically things that *aren't* possible through the physical world. Only certain people have special access to certain parts of, say, the GM's console. Everyone else has to deal with loopholes, but one person can be like '~Import sword' and flip the bird at the concept of Conservation of Mass.

Is /tg/'s impromptu scan group still a thing?

I remember in a thread a while back someone said the Quickstart! translation stop happening because there weren't any scans, so I scanned the first two chapters on my own, though my scanner seems to be having some problems staying connected.

This is the first time I've done this, so I don't know if the scan quality is good enough either. I'll drop a couple of pages and see if you guys have any feedback.

All of those Collateral Damage on down aren't moral dilemmas, they're clearly black and white. Moral: don't kill party members, don't steal from party members.

The moral dilemma isn't the act, its what should you do when it happens. As the groups paladin, you need to convince the party to act, or risk fighting solo.

Help me /tg/ your my only hope

Is there any tabletop rpg that blends science fiction and fantasy elements together? I have a setting for a game that I would really like to try and run, but I have no idea what system to use. I'm looking for something that seemlessly blends the melee action and magic of fantasy rpgs with the gunfighting and technology of science fiction, I can better describe the setting if anyone is interested but pic related gives a good idea of what I'm looking for

Pathfinder General /pfg/

The Big Reveal Edition

How do you unveil major setting elements that were hidden at chargen? Like revealing entire races the players, IC and OOC weren't aware of? Or huge revelations about the nature of the world?

If possible, unveiling major setting elements is something that should be done within increments.
>>
>>52621477
You let the players find them. Don't rail road, just let things go naturally.

A GM of mine had an entire race of snakes that evolved to look like normal humans after generations of breeding in dark caves. Eventually one was born almost perfectly to resemble a human, aside from a few scales on her stomach.

This snake NPC ended up secretly usurping the throne to a city, and became the queen. We as the players had the chance to investigate more and find out she was a snake person but we never did. I only learned after the game had finished early that we ran into a snake person (which happened to be that queen.) apparently there were a lot more snake people in the world living among humans...

What was their goal though? Well they wanted to interbreed with humans so that they could integrate secretly into society, kinda like body snatcher, except more like underground cave immigrants.
>>
>>52621477
At a time where it's game relevant and the players have time to digest and explore it. If it's a dramatic swerve, use it as a cliffhanger. If it's a new culture or bit if mechanics, give them some time to play around with it, potentially with a helpful NPC explaining things when necessary.

Im making a skitarii army for 40k and im thinking that their forge world is filled with techpriests and skitarii that are obsessed with mars and think that the adeptus mechanicus on mars are the closest to reaching perfection through augmentation. Since they are obsessed with mars the forge world will be called Ares. Should i be adding any more fluff to their backstory, or is this enough?

Seems fine. Pretty typical for Ad Mech. Maybe build on it with other ways they seek to imitate mars, like their color scheme or what they do most of the time

I'm trying to figure out ideas for a Hive Fleet focused on Void warfare.

My current thought was that they would have attached themselves to a Void Whale like a parasite, then launch attacks from it. They'd drift along with debris and spores to a ship, tear open a hole in the hull, and eat everyone inside. Then they'd convert it into a fine mist for the Void Whale to consume later, delivering the biomass to them in the long run.

My other idea was far more stupid, being the breeding of Nid Blanks in order to imitate a Geller field and allow for the entire fleet to travel through the warp. That seemed hard to pull off though.

Why 30-card decks MtG format is not a thing at all?
I know that it would be hard to nerf discard and mill properly but what are the other problems with it?
18 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
WotC wouldn't get as much money that way. I've played a lot with the 30 card welcome decks with my noob friends, and in free for all matches we sometimes run out of cards even without card draw or milling spells. So that could also be a problem in controldecks.
>>
40 cards in limited seems small enough to me
>>
if the 4-of limit stood decks would become insanely consistent. you can nearly guarantee the presence of a card in your opener.
similarly, it's pretty easy to draw 30 cards over the course of a game. draw spells would need to be changed and any control deck that could prevent milling itself would be able to win that way.
