capturing monsters for the local arena fights
Goods have started dissapearing from merchant ships at [city name]'s port. Many merchants and seller are now avoiding to trade in the vicinity, damaging the local economy.
A local authority wants to get to the bottom of this, offering a great sum to whoever that can find the thief/s and put an end to their means.
In the end this is an inside war between two rival security companies for the total control of [city name]'s port, which keep putting blame on each other while sabottaging the other one's cargos.

Getting rid of goblin nests.
The Dwarves live in mountainous terrain, and arable land is at a premium; they are, however, an industrious folk, with a mind for engineering, and have created a system by which the sides of mountains and canyons might be used to grow food for their people. The crops which grow best in this environment - rice, olives, grapes, tea - are rotated throughout these terraces, where strict controls on water, fertilizer, and temperature produce enough high-quality crops from their broken land to feed their subterranean populace. These foods, combined with river-caught and farmed fish and the meat of the massive Dwarven Mountain Goat (whose flame-resistant wool features prominently in dwarven craft) provide a rich and balanced died.
Some communities have also taken to growing new crops from across the sea - a thick tuber called "potato" and a tall, thick-stalked grain called "maize."
The high sugar content of these crops, and the easy availability of both yeasts and fungi grown in underground farms, inform Dwarven drinking culture; the most common drink of the working man is a thick drink of herb-seasoned fermented rice that is both calorific and strangely dry and bland, at least to Human standards.
Where the Dwarven craftsmanship truly shines, however, is in their wine and spirits. The most common liquor is a shockingly high-proof rice distillate, the lower grades of which are used as industrial fuels and solvents. It is served, traditionally, in a Samovar-like device, which heats the liquor while adding one of several available flavoring syrups, the most popular being basil-mint, peppercorn, and sugarbeet.
The wines, on the other hand, have truly endless variety. Individual Dwarven families, guarding millennia-old family recipes and techniques, produce wines that run the gamut of flavors, each on their own well-guarded terraces. The only reason these wines are not more famous is an issue of supply.
>>52647849
Yet wouldn't a rich and balanced diet cause them to grow taller than humans of a lesser-fed culture?
>>52647849
So little is produced every season, compared to the demand for fine wine within the mountain, that these delicious wines are effectively nonexistent as an export good, being consumed almost to the drop domestically.
Still, from my time serving as Ambassador to the court of Baldwhifk, son of Eodmherd, I can assure you - their is as much variety, and perhaps more luxurious flavor, than in any long-standing Elven wine cellar.
- From the journals of Thrandrassil the Gourmand
>>52647885
That's assuming that Dwarves are just small humans. The selective pressure of their mountain homes prizes short bodies with powerful builds - the ample muscles and more ample guts of which attest to the richness of their diet.
How to do an AD&D 3rd edition that:
1. Isn't a mere houseruled 2nd edition;
2. Don't stray too far so it becomes 3.PF
3. Brings AD&D to the new millenium
Should 5e Advantage be good to canibalize?
>>52647323
...
Why not just 5e? Redesign some classes and take out hit dice and you are done.
>>52647377
But then it would be D&D 5e, not AD&D 3rd. There's a design shift from one to another.
>>52647323
There already was a fanmade 3e wasn't there?
Guys, my friend just messaged me asking if we could try out D&D next weekend. He's suffering from a breakup, and I really do wanna try out D&D, not just because I have always been interested in playing it, but also because I want to cheer up my mate. What can you guys tell me about D&D that could help make our session better?
Also, there will be 5 of us in total. I think that's a decently sized group. Only one of us has properly played it before, which might be a slight problem.

Frogposting is never related and never approved. Jumping through hurdles just to post your obsession just makes it sadder.
You got infinite options for pictures. That frog needs no more exposure, so why not move on?
>>52646783
Don't be a dick, read the rules, remember your abilities.
Make sure everyone is familiar with how the game works, rolls, basic combat and such. Also, don't overdo it on the first session, give the people time to get into it
Could someone please help me interpret what the following means? And how would you translate it into the later editions?
AC -6; MV 15; THAC0 -10; AT 5/2; Dmg 3d10+18 (great long sword +6, +10 STR, +2 spec. bonus in any sword) or 2d10+15 (long bow +5, +10 STR)
MR 90%
Saves PPDM 2, RSW 3, PP 4, BW 4, Sp 4
>>52646685
Looks like no one wants to.
Does THAC0 -10 mean the worst at hitting or the best? Why the fuck is it a negative modifier?
>>52647267
Would mean the best. For example, if the THAC0 was 3, then on a d20 the player would need to roll 3 or higher to hit an opponent with AC0.
How big is your (physical) collection /tg/? How many rulebooks do you have?
There are no other collectors around where I live so I go to you to see if my collection is seen as big.
I've got 73 rulebooks and most of my friends have 10 or less, just their preferred system.

i have Deuteranopia and have quite some problems figuring out different shades for green, yellow, red and blue.
Having trouble even seeing purple at all.
so would i still be able to paint good if i don't see most of the colors correctly?
Yes. The colors will be labeled for you and understanding light and dark is more important.
>>52645630
I have a friend who's a colorblind artist. Unless you're trying to match specific colors, you'll be fine.
Of course, if you're trying to do historically-accurate WWII vehicle camo patterns, you might have problems.
Most hobbyist mini painters use pre-mixed paint colors anyways, so the hard part is pretty much already solved for you.

What are some historical settings you would recommend to individual game lines or what period setting you'd LIKE to run at some point?
>>52645255
There's not much blood magic can do against true magic(k) I'm afraid.
At the core of things, it's a given that actual wizards would be above and beyond vampire sorcerers.
>>52645401
>What are some historical settings you would recommend to individual game lines or what period setting you'd LIKE to run at some point?
Said it before, and I'll say it again. Las Vegas in the 50's. You've got a sleepy resort town turning into a hotspot thanks to Mafia money and mushroom clouds on the horizon. Now throw in Vampires prowling the lounges, Werewolves stalking the deserts, Mages obsessed with the symbolism of playing cards as Towers rise into the air...

They represent two different sides in a trial by combat.
One represents the government, and is in that position specifically for their morality and just nature.
The other is representing the accused, someone they believe to be innocent.
They fight each other because the law demands it and they both see the law as just.
