I only play custom rpgs, with homemade systems, spells, items, lore, etc. I don't like these corporate designed rpgs.

The usual?

Seriously. Most RPG's are made by independent creators or small studios. D&D and its offshoots in Pathfinder is basically the only 'corporate designed' RPG.

Amonkhet looks really cool conceptually, an entire civilization built on training and going through dangerous adventures and trials with the presence of Gods just walking around seems like it could make for a fun tabletop campaign. I was thinking of taking the setting but removing the magic story bits such as Bolas, and changing some of the gods to have domains based on ways people die. I will most likely run it in 5e, what kind of cool storylines or changes do you guys think would make the campaign fun?

>Removing Bolas

That fucks with the whole society given it's based on his worldview.

I want to run Amonket, but I'm not seeing many story hooks beyond just training, no one really leaves the Hekma.
>>
>>52821684
I was thinking of making it where people want to succeed at trials for a better position in the afterlife, someone having accomplished nothing in life becoming a servant while those who do well could become bodyguards to emperors, advisors, etc.

I could have a bolas-like figure though?

How can heroes teach farmers to defend themselves in typical fantasy world where besides bandits there are also monsters, dragons and mad liches with undead armies? How would your character do it?

So let's assume my character is a match for young dragons in this scenario, at least when part of a team. A Young Green Dragon is CR 8 or a challenging encounter for 4 level 6s.

Unless we're in 5e or another non-D&D bounded accuracy system it's not really about training the villagers. The amount of training the villagers need to be a match for the dragon is far too much for training to take a reasonable amount of time. What we need to do is find those among them who are already higher power, be them NPC classes or PC classes.

Let's say this is a size able town, some 600 people live here. Likely among them there are NPCs around level 4-6 and at least 1-3 people with PC levels.

We take those and train them. Narrowing it down helps us train them faster and more effectively. However unlike normal training we're just going to take them into live fire practice. We locate the closest area of interest, be in a goblin warren, basilisk nest, or otherwise and set about having the PCs and the NPCs eradicating it.

We repeat the location of interest busting until we think they can take the green dragon or at least deter it from attacking. Not only are there now less monsters near the town but they are more able to defend themselves.

This is of course speaking from the perspective of an adventurer, there would be better ways as a governmental body.

Sup /tg/, what are your thoughts on fantasy settings that actually turn out to be Scifi? Do you know any that've been done well?
I want to like the idea because I like both of those things, but the examples I've encountered have always seem wrong somehow.
I'm asking because my group and I want to do a worldbuilding game and then use said world for wargames, hex crawls, and maybe regular campaigns if it gets that developed. I've been toying with the idea of it being set in a topopolis flying through extra galactic space, whose builders were collecting sentient races.
This allows for justification of why the different groups all start at the same time and why each race only spreads from a single point. It allows maps to be on regular paper with the long side folding around to its opposite side and the short sides just being next to more paper. I can also have magic being people managed to figure out different commands for creator systems, and places like local atmospheric control could be the high temple of the storm god, etc. Making sure everything has a passable justification in hard tech would also provide limitations and framework on us when creating the world.
Are there any pitfalls that you've noticed in other fantasy but Scifi settings? Like I know I want no Nanites because the traditional universal assembler is literally magic, and I don't want fantasy that's actually Scifi that actually was just magic.
Thoughts?

Hmm, #1 thing I'd put in a setting like this is nanites, extremely tiny robots that could do a lot of stuff, like light people on fire, drain their blood, make a flash of lightning etc. Just have them be controlled by several artificial intelligences that the people in the setting worship as gods. It seems like everyone is a divine magic user, but really they get power from the artificial intelligence, or perhaps the nanites can be controlled without people knowing they're doing it (like this series of hand motions makes something 50m in front of you explode)

I should try reading the full post, cut off at the last sentence where you said "no nanites".

I'm honestly not sure what you're looking for, is it supposed to actually be sci-fi, and I'm not sure why you dont like nanites

Hey, elegan/tg/entlemen!

I’m fucking mad right now and I need some advice.

I’ll greentext for an attempt at brevity:

>I’m a manager of an FLGS in a decent-sized town
>We’ve been open for over a decade, but I’ve been manager for about six months
>Hear rumors that a comic/card shop is opening across town
>Decide to check it out
>It’s a literal goddamned house in one of the shittiest neighborhoods in town
>I go in and it’s one tiny room with four tables and a counter
>They have approximately 20 cards under the counter that constitute their “high-end” stuff
>I talk to the owner a little bit
>He said he started the business with $5,000 and “a prayer to God”
>I talk to him a little longer and he’s just really awkward
>Leave and vow to never return

Fast-forward to two months later:
>Decide to check the business’ Facebook page
>Dozens of five-star reviews
>99 percent of them are high school kids
>Remaining one percent is high school kids’ parents
>”It’s like a big family here”
>”Best store in this part of the state”
>We sell MTG packs: Three for $10
>Post it on Facebook that we’ve lowered our prices
>Literally ONE FUCKING HOUR LATER, the owner of the other shop says he’s lowering his prices to Three for $9.99
>Goddamned high schoolers start hooting about “best prices in the city”
>mfw

What the fuck do we do?

Do we get into a price-slashing war?

I’m new to this management thing and the owner only put me in this position because I’m good at sales and customer service.

I wasn’t worried at first, to be honest, but somehow he’s surviving and I can’t figure out how.

Our regulars say his store sucks monkey nuts, but high schoolers flock to this place.

Alright, so I'm working on a campaign as an on and off project, and one of the things that I wanted to avoid and remove from the campaign is to remove the feeling that the enemy soldiers the PCs will be fighting are just some goons that are only there for the encounter and just a number.

I have some ideas of how to do this, such as:
>Players come across field hospitals, temporary night stays, and other bits of soldiers lives that happens behind the front
>Gear personalized from changing around the assortment of gear they carry to be more comfortable, to unofficial modifications, to just drawings and writing on equipment like in Vietnam
>Soldiers dragging wounded and dead back into cover, crying out for mates as they get injured, not just fighting to the death
>Soldiers dying clutching keepsakes or nearby friends, some showing signs of having crawled a long way in pain to do so
>Players hearing soldiers talk and chat about everything, to the commanding officer being a dick, to how Daniel got whacked in the face by a frying pan when a cook panicked

I'm looking for ideas and feedback, not just for making npc enemies more then just numbers, but if it's a thing I should be doing in the first place. Knowing the guys I play with, this could go several ways, and I want some advise

Going on with this, I also want to know if it's a good idea to give a small bit of character to everyone they meet, even if it just seems to be one encounter. Small stuff like complaining about some other jobs before dealing with PCs, or having some simple quirks and interests. How far is too far for this stuff
>>
>>52817535
Cowardice always works well, having corner enemies throw down their weapons and beg to spared, pleading that they have a wife and kids and such.

How do players perceive their stats? By this I mean, how does a player see the different numbers when they roll them up or add them to their character sheet? If we assume the standard D&D range of 3-18 with a baseline of 10, does an 8 feel as negative as a 12 is positive? At what point does a low score begin to significantly impact a player's appreciation for their character? With point-buy systems, is it best to err on the side of higher stats?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>52816962
An 8 feels more negative than a 12 does positive.
>>
>>52816962
As time's progressed, the group has adjusted the curve of the value to modifier down to 1 for 1 with the baseline being 10. A 10 is mod +0, where an 11 is mod +1. Inversely, a 9 is mod -1, and so on. Adjusting stat growth is easier for some systems than others obviously, but when the end result is whether or not you get a +3 or +4, simple is best. It's one thing modern D&D really needs to let go of.

Hello /tg/ I recently got back into Yu-Gi-Oh! for fun with friends but I'm wanting to make a deck entirely based around Kuribohs since there's a ton of different variants of this little guy and a Kuriboh deck sounds pretty fun. Problem is I'm having a hard time finding a deck online and only a list of recommend cards on the wiki.

Does anyone have a decklist anywhere or could any of you possibly help me build a deck centered around these? I was thinking something with Relinquished since Sphere Kuriboh would work really well it since it's level 1 and Sphere Kuriboh can be tributed from the grave.

Thanks in advance.
