How many of you idiots try to use D&D to play your Game of Thrones-style low fantasy games focused around intrigue?
>this thread again
I don't know shit about Game of Thrones, senpai.
We used 4e for an Final Fantasy Tactics styled campaign, though.
>>52836919
When you say "D&D", what the fuck do you mean?
Do you mean real Dungeons & Dragons?
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons?
One of WotC's in-name-only d20 System abortions?
Or are you using the term like Coke, Nintendo, Kleenex, Xerox, i.e. a generic term for fantasy role-playing? Or perhaps all tabletop role-playing?
Clarify what you mean, so we know why to call you a faggot.
Nazis are a cliche enemy. I don't think anyone's arguing this. What I want to do is create a villain who's obsessed with the glory of the former American Empire. Let's say it's 2040 and the Union has broken up. Maybe he's a former General brought out of cryo ala the nazis in Hellboy. How would you do this villain? Would he quote Abraham Lincoln? Obsess over rebuilding the statue of liberty and reuniting the American States? World domination obviously
He would recruit former soldiers to his cause, or even rouge regiments
>>52836909
>How would you do this villain?
Southerner. Still bitter about the Civil War.
>>52836909
A villainous figure with an obsession for restoring America to perceived former glory?
Pathfinder General /pfg/
Do you think gestalt is cool in 4+ PC parties or think it's kinda bad?

Old Thread: >>52829141

I think it's useful when the party uses it for fluff more than mechanics.
Gestalting has it's place, and I think it can definitely be cool as long as everyone is okay with it and it isn't abused purely for the purpose of being more powerful. Like a Fighter doesn't want to go Paladin, but wants to be a healer/supporty frontliner so he gestalts Cleric.

First for nu-marines
I like Black Templars
Why does it feel like Marines need so many damn transports?

>second for don't hype unless you expect disappointment
So what are some of /tg/'s theories reguarding Warhammer 40k 8th Edition? And what would you like to see?
Rules, Lore, Whatever
>>52835540
I'd like to see greater restrictions on what we can and cannot take, to make balancing easier. Preferably restricting the game to CAD with formations being something you take inside said CAD. So a Riptide wing is 3 Riptides BUT they take up all 3 of your elite slots denying you the ability to take crises, ghostkeel, and stealth suits. Or you could take the Emp's Wrath, but it takes up all 3 heavy support slots so no tanks for you. Or the Emp's Fist, which takes all 3 heavy support slots and an HQ slot. And so on. Also, no squadrons for anything larger than a sentinel.
This is because even if a certain unit is overpowered, limiting the number of them you can take to (in the riptide's case) 3 or (in the Emp's Fist case) 5 minimizes the cheese available. I'd also force all armies to require 3 troops choices instead of 2 with a maximum of 7 troops, and put all air and anti-air units into a new catagory called "Air Support" with 3 slots. This would allow players to take things like Hydras without feeling like they're wasting slots when fighting non-air armies. Like squadrons on land, the air squadrons are limited to one per slot with special exceptions for tiny guys like deathkopters.
I'd also like GW to NOT get rid of veterans with shotguns, because I just finished painting some and I would hate to lose my newfound WYSIWYG status.
>>52835540
I am concerned, to say the least.
>>52835540
Does GW put out new models with each new edition? I'm considering getting into 40K; haven't bought any sets since 2001 when I picked up some Tyranids out of interest. I like the look of Imperial Guard, but should I expect them to get a whole new set of models with the release of 8th edition?
Ok, so what happens to humans in 40k after they die?
will they become one with the emperor in collective mind?
also Is Emperor like some sort of robot, operated by billions of human souls or something?
>>52835029
You go to the Poker Room of the Dead, where you hang out with other humans and Drink till the Emperor decides it's time for the Great undead counter offensive
these things are left ambiguous because it ultimately doesn't matter for the purposes of the game
>>52835029
Mostly they just die. A small portion persists in the warp, which depending on the person might just be a wisp of emotion or something like a ghost with memories but no real will.
Not really a collective mind, but the collective warp energy of dead human souls is definitely a big part of Emps' warp presence. (over and above the astronomicon)
Emps is a nascent warp god, the body on the golden throne is just his major (but not sole) link back to the materium. I think of him, and the ruinous powers, as more like a sentient thundercloud than a robot.
>inb4 heresy
>the King is dead; his magic sword no longer sustained him
>The great evil empire is gone, killed by a magic superweapon
>The south is dead, the north is untamed wilds, the borders full of chaos
>The elven lands in upheavel, their druids dead, cultists roam unchecked
>The dwarf Lord's safe in their mountain homes
>Everywhere, ghostly sprites released by the cataclysm feed on sinister emotions, the populace stirred up by their ethereal passing
Time for the campaign to take a revolutionary bent? Or should I shift it in another direction?
>>52834977
Sounds like the revolution already happened.
>>52835003
Well, I mean in a more organized fashion. Like "the wizards band together to rule" or "the dwarves decide now is the time to restore the glory of their empire"
>>52835036
Nah, as a player I'd want to re-establish the monarchy and get back to the status quo.
Read before you weep edition.

Jumpers, what are your biggest fears? Failures?
>>52833965
Flaming clown spiders.
I've just finished my 3rd jump and now looking for new ones. What jump do you recommend and is it better to do a jump that you're familiar with or is it the same either way?
>it's another nothing happens episode
I'm gonna stab the next NPC who starts talking about his life.
every thread deserves a post!
>this needs to be handled delicately with hours of talking
>>52833783
I'll be honest, nonstop combat encounters (and if your setting uses "social combat" rules, social encounters count as combat encounters, faggot) get fucking boring.
The key to a good roleplaying session is to make it about the PCs, though, not about the GM wanking over how amazing his setting is. If the GM wants to do that he should write a book and self-publish it when publishers inevitably turn it down.
Find what your players enjoy talking about or roleplaying with and have your NPCs start talking about that, instead. And if there's nothing your players enjoy talking about and roleplaying with, reconsider TTRPGs. There's plenty of great wargames out there.
What now?

Roll under or roll over? Explain why your opinion on the matter is objectively true and why anyone who disagrees with you is a subhuman autistic weaboo SJW faggot.
Elaborate.
>>52833561
Both have their merits, execution matters more.
My opinion on the matter is objectively true and why anyone who disagrees with me is a subhuman autistic weaboo SJW faggot.
I don't need to explain, all quality posters agree.

Roll under. If you keep rolling over eventually everybody falls out of bed.
>>52833589

So what is the verdict /tg/?anyone in Florida received theirs yet?
>>52833508
Still haven't got mine yet. The rules seem okay from what I've read, but I won't really know till I try it.
Haven't played it because it seems like dark souls for those who hate dark souls.
As in the game has fucking dice rolling for some reason
From what I understand, it's a solid generic dungeon crawler with better boss mechanics than most, but it doesn't do a good job of capturing the essence of Souls.
i'm looking at selling my old warhammer 40k models. my collection includes a land raider, 2 rhinos around 40 marines (from 3rd edition) a command squad and 2nd edition legion of the damned (as pictured). How much should i sell them for? i'm open to offers.
$200? that's what i would pay.
though i have no idea what the current market going rate for oop space marines is so hopefully a more knowledgable anon replies
Cheers thanks for letting me know
>>52833420
>200$
>for a bucket of old plastic marines and a single metal unit
They could be drenched in paint you know? You should at least see what they look like before assessing the price.
The same goes for you OP: >>52833071
At least tell us what condition they're in.
A picture would be nice too.
