Which kind of figures are essential for a foreign embassy to work?
A character of mine is an Elf, working as a bodyguard/agent for an Elven dignitary, in the Elven quartier of a big Human capital city.
I was trying to detail the network of people around this char and his boss, but I realized I don't know about what kind of figures are useful/necessary in a foreign embassy.
Setting tech level is somewhat not!reinassance, but I can go with every hint you can throw me as long as it's interesting. I can provide more detail if needed.
Thanks in advance.
Administrators and scriveners.
Administrators and scriveners fucking everywhere.

Elves tend to be at a literacy level higher than their human counterparts here, so they can be "converted" to translators, since luckily we don't have any common tongue around the setting. Thanks for that.
Any details about what different branches the administrators can administer?
If it makes sense in the setting, stick in a few missionaries or other religious dignitaries. Since it's a Renaissance setting, maybe take inspiration from the Jesuits in 16th-17th century Asia. You might also have some specialist possessing skills or knowledge unknown in the host country, offering their services to gain favour with the ruler, like the way the Jesuits introduced all kinds of European sciences to China to gain influence and prestige for Christianity.
Who's had or witnessed a *lighthearted* disagreement between characters or players at the table? Not just someone getting in the way of the game (pic related).
Has anyone ever had an issue go unresolved for years with neither player agreeing who was "wrong?"
>>52857143
We've had one, where my dm withheld exp from me for breaking alignment in an "incident". We've debated it for years.
What made it worse, is my guy was on a quest to become a different class, and 100 exp would have allowed me to create psionic items even after the class change.
Neither of us think we were out of line, and honestly, we've both got a solid case. Who's right? Well, I think I am of course.
>>52859638
In fact, I'll put it up here for /tg/ to attempt to resolve it.
Relevant facts:
>2nd edition
>Psionic
>Lawful Neutral
>my charc was hired to investigate a string of attacks on wagons leaving the city.
>much investigation put me in touch with an ex thieves guild member, who agreed to help me find info
>Thief says he'll tell me someone I should "talk to", if I help him rob said person
>I say I won't help rob the guy, but I will question him loudly, and if he happens to get robbed at that time, well.......shit happens
>The merchant wasn't being helpful, so I began making knocking shit over and threatening him
>I ended up killing the merchant after he attacked me (sorta justified really)
>I also had to kill a couple of his lackeys
DM ruled that this incident (worth about 350 exp for the kills), was outside of my alignment and this negated the exp from it.
>I argued that I was doing my job, by any means necessary as a good LN person would do
>I used the example in the Phb, "An inquisitor who is determined to ferret out the truth at all costs", as my defense
>The dm countered that my main reason for handling it that way, was to rob the guy
There's the facts.....was I correct?
>>52859796
I have never heard of alignment having anything to do with EXP.
Facts are people who grant EXP are dead and the person doing the killing gets said EXP. It's not about why you did it but, that you did it, which gains them.
"This is the same galaxy, but it’s showing some wear and tear. A catastrophic warp storm looks to have rent the Imperium nearly in half. Even before the Fall of Cadia, the immaterium had been growing ever more turbulent. Travel and communication suffered increasing disturbances as the events of the Gathering Storm unfolded. It seems that eventually reality could take no more, and a titanic warp-rift tore across the galaxy from the Eye of Terror to the Hadex Anomaly on the Eastern Fringe. There will be more on this new interstellar feature in the coming days.
While Terra still stands at the heart of Segmentum Solar, and much of the galaxy will be familiar, there are also a few other new arrivals on the map. At a quick glance, you can see the Planet of the Sorcerers, an expanding Necron empire in the galactic east and new warp storms in every segmentum."

How much do Gods/Deities feature in your games?
Do you think too much focus on the Gods takes away from the players' own stories?
Are Deities more interesting as extremely powerful former-mortals or omnipotent beings?
Just general discussion of the deities of your games I guess.
>>52855441
I like to keep the gods out of the campaign. They remain in their heavens.
>>52855441
Kind of 50/50 for me. Gods can have interactions but the stories themselves don't tend to be about them and there isn't any evidence other then power and being worshiped that it is a god. So it's hard to say a lot of time what you are really interacting with if they do show up.
Well, there is one group that notoriously feeds on the corpses of gods found floating in the void.
>be told for years I am a good DM and believe it

>>52853955
You are your own biggest critic.
>>52853979
I criticize everyone, though. There are only two other people whose D&D games I can stand to play in because everyone else I've played with, I have felt this little voice going "god this is the shittiest GMing ever" even when it isn't, even when it was the guy's first time running a game. part of the reason I am a forever GM is because I've been doing it so long I've become a control freak and I have to constantly stop myself from trying to be the DM because I am not used to being a player.
However for a long time I thought my skills actually measured up to my ego. Now I am listening to how much I say "uh" and "um" and listening to some of my descriptions reading like a middle-schooler wrote them, and realizing that... I can run combat well. Mostly. My voice is spergy, my roleplaying of NPCs is honestly awkward a lot of times. And I am reminded of how often my group goes off-topic and completely destroys the immersion of the game because I am too beta to make them shut the fuck up and get back into character.
That said I've had some sessions of truly amazing RP I wish I had recorded. Those were with a smaller subset of my gaming group, though... not all 6 of them.
>be told for years I am a good DM and believe it
>realize what a shitty DM I am
At least people are not just showing up to your games solely because you're a cute girl.

How do you plan (or do you plan) your "random" encounters like wolves in a forest or bandits along a road?
I make a table of creatures appropriate for the area and roll for it. Pretty much by how the PHB does it I think. Roll when travelling and above a 17 is an encounter. Or when they're hungry for battle i'll throw something in. For example when they were shopping and getting a little bit bored I had bandits come in to rob the place.
I love the highwayman.
I usually have two or three encounters for the area ready, roll for random encounter and sometimes randomize them, sometimes I pick what I think would be most fun for the session.
>>52852196
>>52852272
>>52852326
Pretty much this. Have a few setting-appropriate encounters prepared, and either roll or just give them the one I wanted to run the most. A favorite of mine is the old "tree across the road, bandits pop out, leader makes demands, roll initiative". Give the bandit chieftain some flair, and he can be a recurring character, provided he doesn't get a sword through the brain.
/tg/ approved book thread? I have a severe case of writer's block and I need some inspiration.
Some recent reads for me:
>The Malazan Book of the Fallen
>The House on the Borderlands
>The Court of the Air
TCotA has really good world building
Songs of Earth and Power by Greg Bear
Anything by Roger Zelazney
The Time Master Trilogy by Louise Cooper
Pulpier stuff includes The Eternal Champion Books bye Michael Moorcock, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser by Fritz Leiber, and the John Carter of Mars books by Edgar Rice Burroughs
If you can find them (and good luck with that) Tanith Lee's Tales from the Flat Earth series is wonderful stuff.
>>52850710
Get out of whatever genre you're writing. Inspiration strikes from weird places. Read a Culture novel, like PLAYER OF GAMES. Read Eco's THE NAME OF THE ROSE. Read Wolfe's BOOK OF THE NEW SUN, or SOLDIER IN THE MOST. Read a non-fiction history about some culture you're unfamiliar with. Shelton's AS THE ROMANS DID is a brilliant look into ancient Roman life, and it uses tons of translated primary sources. Get out of Europe. Read Zalazny's LORD OF LIGHT. Read Marquez's ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE. Read AMERICAN GODS.
Go to a museum. Watch old films from the criterion collection. The cure to writers block is living life. Go drive until you're lost and then come home by a different path.
Or just stick to military fantasy and read MALAZAN BOOK OF THE FALLEN like everyone is about to recommend. Your choice.
>GM refuses to bring PCs' hp into the low negatives
>Ignores rules and blatant Deus Ex Machina to keep PCs from getting too hurt (I.E. below half health.). Such as 4 fireballs coming out of nowhere and dealing no damage to all friendly PCs in the AoE but dealing damage to the enemy.
That's about time when you have your character intentionally get themselves into a situation where they're likely to get really hurt just to make the GM bend the game into a knot just to keep you alive. Like triggering the AoO of multiple enemies and using ranged attacks in threatened squares.

>Step 1: Preposition every female you come across, regardless of species, age, or power level
>Step 2: Openly steal from every NPC you come across, regardless of their association with you.
>Step 3: Throw yourself into every situation like you're immortal (which you basically are) and remove all the wind from any tense moment by loudly and proudly stating this fact.
Either you die (which you want to happen) or you'll derail the campaign (which is still a net positive).

Archaon's "Sigmar, save me" scene is the most beautiful and touching lore in all warhammer's history. I would literally kill for it to be animated or be adapted as a film. The scene is the essence of all of warhammer crystallised into a single moment. When despair makes way for dark determination., when love turns into hate, when faith turns to heresy!
The problem is...how should voice Archaon/Kastner?

I've seen it done with other models. The effect can be quite striking.

Is it just me, or are the OP topics getting baitier and baitier?
This one seems like it's designed to rustle and entire forest's worth of jimmies.
Didn't see one and figured might as well since the new expansion might spice things up.
Are you building a new deck, upgrading an existing deck or just playing your old deck?
R/B zombies will likely go unchanged. The deck is already tight as-is and casting creatures at sorcery speed is for chumps. Shadow of the grave might be alright for free haunted dead activations should I have to discard something I don't want to, but it seems inconsistent.
>>52831593
I don't think anything is strong enough to bring any meaningful changes to standard. Sure one or two things will make it through, such as Manglehorn, but for the most part we can expect to see the exact same decks being played as we saw previously.
