Mass Combat When?
Vanishing Urban Squalor in Slav-London
African Swords
The Complexities of Gunshot Wounds

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. The Kickstarter was nearly 300% funded, and we're on the fast track to kicking ass baby.

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

MEGA folder containing current version of the game and all supplementary materials.
Note that the latest version of the game is v1.9.9 but with additional supplements.

Here's a wiki detailing SoS's fantasy setting, getting filled up bit by bit as Jimmy reveals more details:

There's also a roll20 room where new players are encouraged to try the rules, test new rules, and find game breaking issues: https://app.roll20.net/join/346755/hRKd4w
If you're looking to learn, post here in the thread.

We also play Guy Windsor's card game Audatia in the room, but now we have a much better way to play Audatia: Tabletop Simulator! The (official!) mod for Audatia is now up and running!

In the L5R game ForeverGM at least used a house rule, Mooks drop their highest damage die. Cause otherwise we'd have all been making new chars once he took over.

I wish to learn more about shield fighting. For wheelchair related reasons I won't be doing any HEMA or SCA myself. But I want to understand what works and what is stupid.

Is there an appreciable difference in how you'd use a targe or heater vs how you'd use a scutum or kite? Or are they just a tradeoff of carry weight vs protection? Can you shield bash with all of these? Or only the smaller shields?

Under what circumstances would you shield bash anyway? Since attacks come from the rotation of core muscles, you don't get more attacks by dual wielding, so why use the shield instead of the more effective weapon in your main hand? Is it just element of surprise? Or is there something more?

>how you'd use a targe or heater vs how you'd use a scutum or kite?

Entirely different in terms of how they are used. Different skill set and different moves for devices that really have the fact they are off-hand defensive weapons in common.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkhpqAGdZPc
This vid covers a lot of points when using a Viking/Anglo-Saxon style round shield. The most relevant point here is how you can use the shield offensively to block, bind or strike at an enemy in such a way that it takes his weapon offline and opens him up for your own attack. This is much more important than merely hitting your opponent with the shield.

What in particular do you want to know?
>>
>>52909588
From my limited understanding I believe a bash is used primarily to knock the opponents weapon out of the way or just knock the opponent of balance to allow you to get in a proper hit with your main weapon.
Less a second attack and more an action setting up your main attack as it were.

Type is more for who's using it. Cavalry are more likely to have either a small or one of the pointed bottom shields as it allows them to hold it close on a horse.
>>
>>52909588
At a guess, the reason you'd shield bash would probably because it's a farly broad contact blunt weapon attack- you're not really aiming to hurt the foe as much as you are to get them off balance so you have the upper hand.

Tyranids, they have actual spaceships. Their ground forces are comparable but have guns.
Tyrnid psykers basically give them straight up magic.
Tyranids also engage in global scale biological warfare that the arachnids wouldn't have an answer to.

>Human is always a paladin or knight
unless old, otherwise
>Always a mage.

>Dwarf is always a warriors focused on defense. No weapons but axe or hammer. Always drunk. Also always male.

>Half-orcs is always barbarian.

>Elves are always archers.
alternatively
>Male elf is always archer
>Female elf is always skimpily-dressed sorceress
alternatively
>Dark elf is always sneaky assassin

>Halfling is always rogue.

>Gnome is always a wizard.

I see nothing wrong with this and this is how it should be. Separation into races and classes is superfluous. It only serves to make special snowflakes.

Alternatively, humans may have some generic class options (knight, priest, mage), but for abhumans race=class, as outlined above.

Have you tried not playing DnD or it's derivatives?

If you're worried about special-snowflake faggots, try playing a game that's humans-only. They're actually kind of nice because have to make actual characters instead of stereotypes.

Hey /tg/ newfag here. Thought I kick things off with a small series of That Guy story from around 4-5 months ago, when I discovered roll20 and decided to join a Pathfinder game. Everyone is ’That Guy’ to an extent, but then again… Let’s play a little „Guess Who is That Guy Who Fucked Up the Game”. Hint: there might be more than one. Extra points for „Find the OP” The names are changed, but your candidates are:

>Horny the female ratfolk.
Class: Warpriest, madness domain
Style of play: Sometimes goes a bit meta as if she was Deadpool, uses two-handed fighting and her tactics are: charge into melee, wreck shit, remember she can cast spells at random intervals. When someone else starts to goof off, she goes serious and intimidates the PC in character to cut the crap.:Uses a character portrait of a clipped NSFW art of a ratfolk in armor, with the lower part of her clothing/armor ’missing’. Specifically asked the GM whether she could ’accidentally’ lose her pants at every beginning of the combat as a free action.

>Butch the female human
Class: Bloodrager – abyssal bloodline
Style of play: Go in, slap shit with a 2 handed sword which is bigger than her, animu style, be brooding and edgy, but when PCs interact with her, she lightens up at times. Tends to stick to the rules and call out on the GM if he fucks it up. Best buddies with the party’s healer; written up a shared background story, making her the healer’s bodyguard. Also, she had horns. I don’t know why, but just did, because horns are cool and bloodline fluff.

[Cont.]
26 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>Punpun the female kobold
Class: Alchemist – Mindchemist
Style of play: More or less remains an outsider to the group because she doesn’t trust them as the feeling is mutual. Being a fekking kobold means they are probably right, but not yet moved on to steal from the party while there are NPCs to scam as she sells aclhemical ware. Lobs acid and bombs as expected, and the moment a baddie even just looks mean at her, she runs away screaming. Also, not afraid to throw bombs into crowds despite there being a chance to wound the meatshield buddies. Tends to stick to the rules as well and gangs up with Butch to call out the GM on his bullshits when he twists the rules or ignore them.

>Snowflake the female human
Class: Cleric to –insert random good god here-
Style of play: Never uses an offensive spell, nor does she ever fight with weapons, had huge charisma, some wisdom, but even the kobold could beat her in an armwrestling match or in a marathon. Tends to be very kawaii and her portrait is some random animu chick. Frowns at every time we manage to outright kill off the baddies. Also, she is the face.

>DMPC the male ratfolk
>Class: Archmage
>Style of play: Being the DM. That’s it.
>>
Also, there were 2 other PCs, but they didn't say anything, didn't do anything, and were basically just faceless minions. They left after the first session's bullshit.

So. Who is That Guy, who broke the game?

In most campaigns across most editions of D&D, death becomes cheaper at higher levels. Resurrection, magical cloning, and all sorts of other ways to cheat death become more and more readily available the longer a campaign progresses. Sometimes, it feels like death stops being an obstacle at high enough level.

What's the highest level you've permanently lost a character at? How did it happen?

15th level. After a campaign that has met once a week for almost a year slowly began to degrade into a slog of once maybe ever two weeks thanks to a bunch of irl bullshit making half the players resent each other, my character told an NPC claiming that we had to betray our homeland because he said so and was a demigod to go fuck himself and he instantly destroyed my soul without a save

Took that as my cue to bow out.

My friends want to run a super-hero game based on My Hero Academia, which tldr is 80% of the world has super powers called Quirks and focuses on trainee heroes going through super-high school.

So what system would be best for this setting? Basically the system needs to be open enough to allow creativity with powers to an extent while also allowing that same creativity when it comes to upgrading the powers. We're looking at FATE and Mutants and Masterminds currently, but if /tg/ has any suggestions I'd gladly hear them.

Worlds in Peril or Masks maybe?

There's also a possibility of Savage Worlds as a lighter alternative for M&M, or GURPS/HERO for... less light alternatives.
>>
>>52905923
Yeah, FPBP, but I like to throw in Primetime Adventures as an Ultra-Lite Narrativist option, just because I like its conflict resolution mechanic better than Risus.
>>
>>52905267
Consider Marvel Heroic. Heavily narrativist but it should be a strict upgrade from Fate for your purposes if you're considering the system. Don't try it if you want something crunchier though.

It'll let you separate mundane ability, quirks and equipment easily and does a good job of running anime style fights.

>Gather armies of the biggest factions in Fearun
>Meet for epic battle against demon hordes
>Fight their way through to the demon lords castle
>Fight their way though the whole castle to the final room
>Gaz'zt the demon lord orders his minions to attack as he makes his escape
>Players kill the minions and pursue
>Catch him entering a portal to the Abyss

players: "We charge after him. Through the portal."
me:"Its closing fast, you'll never make it."
players: "We go anyways."
me: "DC 25 athletics or acrobatics to get there."

Weapon is an arrow that puts a portable hole into a bag of holding.

>hits
>Gaz'zt now lives in the astral plane
>Fighter now lives in the Abyss
>Gave hime 55,000 XP because he beat a demon lord and me.
>Rest of party gets the money loot and not being stuck in the abyss and the XP from the monsters
>only leave up to 6
