So, long story short, I've been trying to clear up the historical evolution of Kobold artwork - can anyone clue me in on which of the first two pictures in this image come from where? I know the third is the AD&D Monstrous Manual and the last is the 3.0 Monster Manual.

Also, let's have a kobold thread. Have you ever made kobolds a major race? If yes, do you prefer them as magicians, tech guys, or replace gnomes by studying both?

Do you actually like the 5e statblock for kobold PCs?

The first picture is not the picture from 1st edition Monster Manual, but descipts a similar looking kobold as that picture (scaly skin and doglike face). The second picture is from early in 2nd edition's lifespan, I believe, before later art making them look like the 3rd picture.

I'm about to start a game and the party is currently Monk, Cleric (Tempest) and Paladin. What would be a good class to take to balance the party out? Everybody else is pretty much exclusively a melee hitter.

Aldous Orwellus was looking at a giant, clad in greenish armor, approaching slowly to him from the end of the corridor. Even at this distance, he seemed massive, filling a space that should be able to accommodate easily three people. He was walking slowly, every step booming in the metallic floor, the vibrations reaching his ribcage. The giant held a colossal weapon, similar to the stub guns that he had seen the PDF carry in parades, but two, three times bigger, and visibly more deadly.
As he approached, he took out the helmet with one hand. Red eyes in a charcoal face looked at him, examining, analysing. A mouth opened, and white teeth, predator teeth, could be seen contrasting against the black of his face. It looked like something out of a nightmare, an angel of retribution that arrived to his doorstep. Suddendly, he opened his bear-like hands.
“Hello, my friend! Aren’t you going to give a hug to your great-great-great-great uncle?”
This was going to be an interesting Sanguinala.

So, some days ago I began to post a small story, but had to cut it short due to work-related things. I have the first part finished, and I spellchecked it a little bit. So I will be posting the whole thing. It is not very long, hope you like it!
>>
It seemed a formal letter. Maybe the most formal letter that grazed that sub-spire in the last 400 years, since its foundation. It was made from proper paper, which in that word was a luxury, and had a red wax seal. The size of the letter looked odd, as it made for bigger hands.
That day, Aldous Orwellus was returning home after his normal 16-hour shift. He was a teacher in a nearby school, 60 levels down. He knew that half the juves there would end joining a gang in the next 5 years, and that 1 every 4 would be dead in the next 10, but that didn’t deter him of trying to teach a little bit of the most basic stuff. The serfs of the God-Emperor should at least know how to read a damn data-slate.
He didn’t expect a ministrorum adept waiting for him home, as he didn’t expect the letter.
Once he opened it, his doubts weren’t still resolved. He had more than before, in fact.

“To the attention of Aldous Orwellus, descendant of Linus Orwellus, descendant of Freyer Orwellus, descendant of Janus Orwellus,
I am Captain Mathias Terruel, on board of the battle-barge “Fury of the Stars”, which stationed in your planet two cycles ago, and awaits reconditioning before our next warp jump.
It seems you are the last member alive of the Orwell family, and one of my passengers has asked permission to visit you. Strange as it is, it seems their brethren have a tradition of doing just that.
I would advise you to allow his request, as being a guest of one of the angels of the Emperor is probably the highest service you will do in your life, but he has repeatedly insisted that you should do it of your own volition as he “does not want to be a burden”.

I expect your answer by tomorrow. My messenger will come pick it up.

I've been making DIY boardgame, but I need some help with few things.

It's hexagonal boardgame, where you open up tiles as a map, farm land and mine mountains, build walls to keep opponents out, build smith and such buildings to do various things, like create weapons to make soldiers.

I'm just not sure what should be the win condition. I originally was thinking about just elimination of other players, but the problem with that is, that you might end up in situation where one player is out way too early. Second idea was about making the king, which required certain conditions, like having enough men and buildings like library etc. to actually make on and win like that on the spot. But it has it's own set of issues and thematical boringness.

Also the big issue is game variance. The game desperately needs a mechanic to break each individual games into different slightly different ones. One idea I had was having a library to be able to buy yourself special cards that gives you certain bonuses, like farming gives more food etc.

TLDR I need a wincon and game variance to my game, what do?

Also, anyone else done DIY games here?

You could make it score based, possibly with a hidden scoring goal (i.e. your player draws a card at the beginning that tells him what gives him score, what goals he has, etc.).
>>
>>55225222
Yes, that's one idea, but not sure what should be the end condition.
>>
>>55225347
Time, just have it be a "who scores most in 5 years" thing.

Could pull an Armello with the end being "when the king dies" but it's possible to assassinate him to force it earlier. Especially fun with hidden points if you think you are winning, but your assassination actually gives the victory to another player.

How dangerous are injuries at the shoulder? For example, to get hit by a axe
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>55225005
Depends on how deep, what angle, and which shoulder. Check diagrams for artery placements, because there are some major arteries in the shoulders. I don't remember its name, but there's an artery deep in the left should that, if cut, will make you bleed out in less than a minute.
>>
>>55225005
This shitty articulation is so intricate it's a pain in the ass to heal, so it usually heals wrong.
If you survive the fight, your arm is probably permanently messed up at least regarding mobility.
>>
>>55225037
But adding to this. Generally, injuries to the shoulder aren't terribly serious. There's no vital organs there, so you only have to worry about bloodloss or infection. So long as major arteries are missed and the wound is cleaned/treated fairly quickly, shoulder injuries aren't that threatening.

However, there's a lot of muscle there. So if the wound doesn't heal right, it could impair motor function in that should and arm later on.

How common are prehistoric creatures in your campaign, /tg/? Any obscure organisms from before written history that you'd like to employ in your setting/game?

Having only played a few sessions at best, take my feedback with a grain of salt.

I like the system and setting *a lot* very dark, but not too dark and it has (forgive the comparison) a very Dark Souls feel especially with the corruption and stuff. They take a lot of time describing the setting and the different peoples in detail so that a GM can run it with the proper feeling. I heartily recommend Wardruna as background music.

The system itself is pretty good and fairly balanced, you can make mages who are good with a spear, berserkers who stave off corruption, rangers who know the wild a little *too well* and more, my only dislike is that it's d20 based, but it's d20 roll under so it's enjoyable. IF you want more info/storytime/books feel fee to ask about specifics, I'd be happy to share, I love Symbaroum and hope that it gets more appreciation.

>(forgive the comparison) a very Dark Souls feel
I actually love Dark Souls, so nothing to forgive here. Thanks for feedback. I'm about to start reading through the corebook. Any expansions worth checking out before the first session, or should I just go with core only for the fist time? Also, what kind of stories is the setting suitable for? Is it all just grimdark horroresque adventures the artworks seem to suggest, or do more "usual" fantasy quests also work?
