I haven't paid any attention to 40K in about three years, but I heard there's been plot progression involving the Eldar death god and the return of a Primarch. What's happened?
I would tell you we Age of Emperor now, but three years is long enough you wouldn't really know what Age of Sigmar is.
In other words: Much has changed, little of it was for the better.
>>52973245
Disregard this fool. Much has changed, the story is moving again, and we're getting an update on the rules that will cut out a lot of bloat.
>>52973211
Phew man there's a lot. I got into 40k about a year ago so I can't fill you in on all three years, but basically look up "Gathering Storm" and you'll get an idea. Bullet points:
-Magnus the Red has two new models, one daemon prince and one Horus Heresy
-Ahzek Ahriman and his band returned to Magnus
-Magnus lead an assault on Fenris and wiped it off the map
-Magnus used the deaths of almost everyone on Fenris to recreate Prospero
-Cadia blew up during Abaadon's 13th Black Crusade
-Trazyin the Infinite (Necron lord who likes to collect shit) fucked around on Cadia before it blew up
-Because Cadia blew up, the Warp is slowly overtaking the rest of realspace
-On Cadia, Saint Celestine fought Abaddon and almost killed him, turned mortal in the process
-Abbadon heard the name of someone the Grey Knights have in a stasis pod, blew a gasket but we don't know the name
-Commoragh is in the process of blowing up because the Gate underneath it opened up
-the Mechanicum asked the Dark Eldar how to fix the Golden Throne (this was before Gathering Storm)
-Ynnead is the Eldar God of Death who is supposed to eat Slaanesh
-Ynnead was awoken early and not quite finished, the Avatar named Yncarne is running around
-his cult leader is a chick named Yvraine
-Biel-Tan fractured and pretty much blew up when Yncarne woke
-Eldar and Dark Eldar are teamed up now
-Eldar and Dark Eldar got their names changed to "Aeldari" for copyright reasons
-Yvraine fucked with Ahriman by restoring some of the Rubrics, before blasting a hole in the Webway they were in and throwing them all into the void immediately
-there are Genestealers on Terra
-Guilliman apparently had a guy named Cawl from the Mechanicum build him a life-support suit of power armor before he was put into stasis
-Cawl, Cypher, and Yvraine go to Macragge as the Black Legion attacks
-manage to get Guilliman into the suit of armor
-Guilliman starts wrecking the Black Legion's shit

How do you act out your characters getting magically charmed? Do you balk at it? Is it any different if the charm is from akitsune?

Ok, there's no way that animeposter isn't
1. Actually 2hu
2. Someone intentionally witch-hunting 2hu to pose questions related to what he does
Seriously this is fucking crazy.
>>52972294
Is the kitsune actually being played asian, or is it just someone trying to act out their partial furriness without using their different forms.
(in either case who cares, if you get charmed you get charmed.)
>>52972294
Of course it's different if the charm is from a kitsune.
Sheer disgust should entitle me to an additional saving throw.
Seeing as we're approaching the eve of 40k 8th edition, lets have a chat: what unit would you really like to see your army have in 8th edition that you believe they probably won't have? May already have existed on the board/rules or just be in the fluff. I guess mine would be the Ferrum Infernus Chaos Dread; just the idea of a wise ol' chaos dreadnought instead of just crazy helbrutes that I'm gonna miss
Rough Riders. The statement by GW says that all MODELS currently in the game will have rules...and as far as GW is concerned, RR no longer have an official model as the metal mongol riders are no longer available through them.
I feel like they're gonna end up missing in 8th. Which is a shame, because the only reason a lot of people didn't use them is because they were metal and their stats were absolute garbage. If they were remotely viable they'd see a lot more time on the table in 7th.
More tau alien buddies.
I kinda miss the star trek thing they were going with tau until they went full gundam wangst

I want better rules for Looted Wagon for orks. Example Looted Rhino, Looted Leman Russ, Looted Wave Serpent, Looted Valkyrie and so on.
If you kill the leader of a Might-Makes-Right/Evil Darwinist group, do you inherit their position? After all, by their own rules, they were too weak to lead if you win.
Pic unrelated
>>52968351
Depends what they consider worthy of leadership.
Maybe they will see you as "too foreign" : they understand that a bear is strong but they'll never obey an animal.
A group that see itself as really superior to all other groups/species can just consider the last boss had an accident.
Sure, he was weak/stupid enough to let himself be killed by a [insert appropriate derogatory term] but that doesn't mean the [X] replaces the boss.
They'll sort it out among them. In the mean time, you are a potential trophy.
Maybe they will also consider it not a "true victory" if you killed the man in his sleep or through means they see as not linked with might/strength/ect...
In that scenario, you're not even a trophy : they'll zerg you while you brag about being the rightful new king.
Maybe social skills also play a role in what might is for them.
The previous boss was a peerless fighter, sure, but he also had the support and "friendship" of other good fighters that made it possible to extend his authority.
He didn't had their support because he kicked their asses in ritual combat : he understood politics and offered them something for their alliegeance.
The capabilities to sway someone to serve you by playing on his own interests, that's also a pretty useful evolutionnary trait and therefor part of might.
Maybe this goes further : the guy you killed ? He wasn't even a good fighter, just smart enough to draw battle plans, organized enough to keep everyone well supplied and politically-savy enough to keep infightings and intrigue to a minimum.
You ripped his head clean off ? Good for you. That makes you as useful and mighty as a leader than Grok, the Ogre mercenary that they pay with chickens to smash things.
Finally, even if you did the right thing by killing the leader yourself, in a situation they judge good enough to qualify as new boss, your victory only means the old boss had BECOME weak.
His subordinates, still young and strong, will test you soon enough.
Would a real life biker gang accept you as their leader if you killed the boss? No, because that makes no fucking sense.
>>52969795
Biker gangs aren't fucking tribal, what sort of comparison is this? They're just a bunch of fat old dudes that like bikes.

Does anyone have this "World of Darkness General" layer/template available separate from this image?
how do i counter a destiny hero deck? im having problems dealing with cards end dragoon. any tips on how to shut down a deck like that? its an older destiny format not using many of the newer monsters

Telling us what deck you're playing would help but anyway since you said older format I'm gonna assume it's Goat or atleast near there so just throw in some of pic related and banish dragoon
Looking to expand my tabletop.
Pretty proficient in 5e now, and I know that a lot of my players are comfortable with its freedom, but I really want to check out these more crunchier and crazier games.
So should I go for Pathfinder or 3.5e? I'm really like a lot of options for the players, and I'm partial to PF right now given the cost and availability.
Unrelated, how's Dungeon Crawl Classics, aside from the weird ass dice.
>>52964969
3.5 and PF are literally the same but for minor changes, PF tried to "fix" 3.5 but essentially made the same mistakes (some might argue they made them more obvious)
Both systems have lots or options at your disposal for character building and their differences are almost unappreciable
>>52964997
So would you say just go with PF and save a couple bucks?
>PF or 3.5e
4e
>Unrelated, how's Dungeon Crawl Classics, aside from the weird ass dice.
I'm having fun with it, but I have not spent enought time familiarizing myself to make an objective judgement. It's kinda random and lethal, so go in expecting to die.
What's the best alignment?
The No Alignment.
>>52964013
Neutral is boring, and people who run "alignmentless" games set in a dull gray world are the roleplaying equivalents of fedora tipping atheists.
Even in the real world there are some genuinely good people and some absolutely evil people.
Chaotic good
"Your Holiness, there is disturbing news from Romania.
It is said the Prince of Wallachia, who has been our staunch defender against the Turks and Saracens, has made a pact with the devil! Night and darkness has covered the land from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. An unholy, massive castle has grown like a tumor across the mountain ranges, and legions of skeletons, demons, and monstrosities pour forth.
The Prince has claimed "in service of God, I sell myself to the Devil" and has proclaimed to defend Christendom from the Turks "till the end of days". The Turks have already fed great armies, only for them to be returned upon stakes and spikes, but he has not made any advances upon his Christian neighbors.
There is great fear and trembling among the lords of Europe your holiness, and many call for his excommunication and ponder a crusade, what should be our papal response?"
Reinforce his positions.
If his actions cause God to answer, then we must all follow suit.
Rejoice because proving the devil exists proves God exists too.
>>52956802
We secure the borders against any movements from his land into those of the faithful. Let the Devil's pawns fight themselves while we build our strength, inform all that should they travel into those lands, they will not be permitted to leave.
Over and over I hear people say, "traps that just boil down to rolling perception, and then rolling to disarm traps suck! They're boring and slow down the game to a crawl!"
If that's the case though, what does a GOOD trap look like?
>>52955720
Describe environment.
Let each player pick a few things they focus on at a glance.
Let them roll perception if there is anything to notice (under the drawer is some kind of lever, there is a little bit of dried blood on one of the books, one of the tiles seem to be slightly elevated).
Let the players interact with the environment, allow the character with the appropriate skills somewhat easily disarm the trap. Unless they're being really stupid. If nobody present has the proper skills, they may be able to circumvent the trap (try not to step on the wrong tiles, jump over the fake carpet).
Lots of fun.
>>52955720
Players get an automatic perception roll to notice EVIDENCE of a nearby trap. If they notice it, they can discover the trap's function/bypass/disarm it by roleplaying (backed by checks when reasonable).
>If that's the case though, what does a GOOD trap look like?
In all honesty a fabbled good GM you're not going to find so it's not going to have any real world descriptions we can give here.
Traps do just boil down to a few rolls or a big bad effect. When dice aren't rolled it's like puzzles, it becomes a game of guess what your GM thinks is clever today.
Cestree can't go on an adventure without your help.

So I've had some recent discussion on the idea of class balance. Now personally I think this becomes a slippery slope where eventually you just end up simulating an MMO because every class has to be equally viable in every situation. I prefer having things classes clearly can't do. A fighter can't just alter reality, a cleric can't pick a lock, and a wizard can't go 10 rounds in the ring bare knuckle brawling with an ogre.
Obviously there will always be some issue somewhere. 3.5e had plenty of issues, probably compounded by many poor feat choices, then not entirely solved with prestige classes (and those were clearly not balanced around each other).
How much balance is too much and how much is not enough? That seems to depend more on the group than the actual game to me.
>>52942119
>eventually you just end up simulating an MMO
>>52942119
You described it yourself: a fighter can't just alter reality, a cleric can't pick a lock, and a wizard can't go 10 rounds in the ring bare knuckle brawling with an ogre.
That's called niche balance. The problem 3.5 had was that Wizards could do literally everything: they could alter reality, they could pick locks (Knock spell, or failing that, just disintegrate the lock), and if they really wanted to brawl an ogre (even though it would be easier to just disintegrate the ogre) they could just load themselves up with buffs beforehand.
If you want to bring real class balance to 3.PF, you need to place real restrictions on casters. There needs to be things they simply cannot do, period, no matter how many spells they know. Either that, or have certain spells come with a price that cannot easily be paid, such as how spells in CoC can make you lose SAN.
>>52942243
>they could just load themselves up with buffs beforehand.
Well yeah the level of buff spells was too much. But then I suspect part of the issue is wizard faking spell lists. Sorcs were far more limited on how many spells they had overall so if they massed up on buff spells they'd have less for anything else.
