I haven't seen Kingdom Death thread in what feels like an eternity. Maybe this won't turn into one either.

If does, I got this question that I haven't played even a single campaign yet, but I got Lion God and Sunstalker expansions, and I'm planning on getting the Lonely Tree to boot. How badly I messed up with the expansions?

Though from what I've heard, Gorm is supposed to be a good one? Since it's another lowlevel thing that isn't White Lion. And Sunstalker and Dragon King have variant campaigns in them.

Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1977. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

Funnily Enough, Scrounging Bandar is really nice in foil. Also, Predator's Rapport looks great. These two have a yellowish background originally so it must be why these two look good. Pia's Revolution looks pretty great in foil too.

I'm sorry about it, I also had to edit the post because of space limitations, so it may get messy in some points because I didn't double check.

He raped the char because he was playing it poorly, he basically didn't talk much, and most of the time was just making fun of one character name, to then say "I can hack".

If we exclude the fact that the char was far distant from my vision of the sidecharacter I had in mind (You know that feeling when you create a background and you also imagine the face and movements of even the most useless of characters? That). This is just poor interpretation, and I found it to be a dick move to just take it without even asking and also say a "fuck you" when I just try to suggest one thing that made sense.

A Similar situation happened time ago on a Dark Heresy campain, one character wanted to play the mother of his character, I asked the original campain master and he was ok with that, and the original creator was ok because he was the one to ask for it in the first place.

Many months after the campain finished the original master just came up with "Nope, it didn't happened in the same universe"
Fucking God the rage.

So who's ready for another "That DM" story? This is a long one, so I'm gonna be posting it in multiple parts.

I was scrolling through Roll20 for a Mutants & Masterminds game when I saw a game called "Shinobi of Amegakure". A setting based in the world of Naruto. It's been years since I even thought of Naruto and I applied as a joke, thinking that if I got accepted I would get to see some entertaining cringe.

I get accepted into the game and I start talking to the GM, I spit out ideas for a character and they tell me that each and every concept I put forth is already taken until I suggest that I be a Taijutsu user like Rock Lee or Shira. The GM seems entertained at the idea and tells me that I will be at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the ninja because at such a low Power Level, most ninja will have a similar martial arts skill level. I respond with "I know, I'm betting on using advantages to keep up for now, and once we get to a high enough level, I'll start picking up Alternate Effects and the power gap will start increasing". The GM approved this character, and so begun character creation.

Just a bit of background for those of you who don't know what M&M is.

In Mutants & Masterminds you get a number of points equal to 15xPL. We were PL 5 since we were Genin, just graduating from the academy, so I had 75 Power Points. I used a majority of these power points on grabbing advantages, the equivalent of feats, and intended to use these advantages to keep up with the actual Ninjutsu of other players. The alternate effects I intended to take later are a mechanic unique to M&M, allowing you to spend one point and gain an additional effect based off of the original power, granting you 'modes'. An example given is if you have a damaging laser, you can take alternate effect and gain a strobe setting, letting you dazzle and stun people. The concept is that eventually, versatility is just fluff, and is no better than having more standard powers. They are highly recommended for martial artist characters since generally, they're going to be at a disadvantage amongst individuals who can smash buildings apart.

The Alternate Effects come into play later, for now, I built my character. A Taijutsu user who had just graduated from the Amegakure (Rain Village) Academy. He was born without any particular Ninja abilities, but he was determined to be a ninja and dedicated his life to perfecting his physical body and his skills, which allowed him to just barely pass the Ninja Academy with Taijutsu alone. I built this character to have trained heavily in taijutsu, but have literally no ninjutsu, he could not cast jutsu if he tried. As far as I'm concerned it sounds like a fun story and I like the underdog vibe.

The first session went great, a bunch of lucky rolls and my character one this big battle royale between all the Genin, a great start. We had some issues with a 'That Guy', but he left the campaign quickly after fucking over everyone and getting us all stuck with psuedo-tailed beasts and becoming artificial Jinchuriki.

The second session went just as well, we get introduced to our Jonin, we all meet up and so on and so forth, blah blah blah. Another player is mostly in charge of running the session, and so it actually goes well. But this story is about the GM, so I'm mostly going to ignore other things that happened in the game...

What makes an rpg for you?

The spell list?
The classes features?
Feats?
Combat rules?

Sometimes i want to try different systems than dnd but the lack of mechanics like "+1 when doing x" , a list of spells, or defined advancement turn most players off

Those things are all features, but none of them are deciding factors, at least for me.

What I love about RPG's is when the mechanics are in tune with the theme and the premise. When I read the fluff, and I read the rules, and I see that they're in sync.

Give me a world, a premise, an idea that can create interesting stories, and partner it with rules and guidelines that support the fluff in interesting and evocative ways.

These days, I've started to look for crunchier systems which do this. A lot of rules light fluffy systems accomplish this, but I've fallen in love with games which partner more complex, deep and satisfying mechanics with a strong narrative idea, showing that you can combine good, strong game design with all the strengths of a storygame save for its lightness, and create something really unique and awesome from it.

There are very few of them around which do it well, but I treasure those I find and I keep hoping for more.

its also acceptable if there's a pre-written backstory, but you only discover bits and pieces of it along the journey. because you're playing someone potentially emotionally detached from that backstory.

if you have a pre-written backstory that's presented in full before you play, that's just acting out someone else's ideas.

Kiriam can be ethier Tiefling or Human, but he is always a Barbarian. That is because we play a guy who enraged transformes into demonic beast. Something like werewolf but it's not really like this.

Depends on DM/GM. If he allows you to trade your darkvision or other tiefling racial ability for looking like a normal human with subtle changes then go for tiefling. If not human must do.
To clarify: this is not a build made to be efficient, it is made to be immersive. I wanted to feel like a chained monster when playing it and hell I did, but it costs interactive efficency.
