What are /tg/ thoughts of this genre?
>>53114129
Pretty boring actually.
First off, the genre's origins basically established a lot of common tropes that have become incredibly bland.
Then the latest generation is based on defying those tropes by making it all pretty and pink, but Grimdark. These in turn have established Trope-defying Tropes that have also become bland.
Also everything is lesbians. Everything.
So, in Essence, no matter what spin you put on it will feel bland and cliche, and there's a 90% chance it goes full on Magical Realm.
>>53114129
Who's the girl with the tie?
>>53114191
>First off, the genre's origins basically established a lot of common tropes that have become incredibly bland.
Cute girls and magic being bland? How?
Even the minor tropes (familiars, transformation, special items) are all pretty interesting.
>Then the latest generation is based on defying those tropes by making it all pretty and pink, but Grimdark.
There's more to recent Mahou Shoujo than just Madoka. Even Flip-Flappers took an interesting spin by going for a drama route quite distinct from being simply grimdark.
MS has a lot of versatility, and I personally think that it's ability to combine so well with other genres is quite respectable. I'm actually curious to find out how well Mahou Shoujo+Classic RPG Adventuring might turn out.

Without mechs this time?
Why is Aku such a great inspiration for a BBEG?
Seriously he's based in every aspect you can think of
Who would win in a fight between Aku and Nicol Bolas?
>>53114105
Aku is completely immune to any kind of damage not made by Jack's sword, and it took three gods to forge it
>>53114151
Yeah, but what I like is that its just the blade that's his weakness. But he has a huge hit pool, but rather lackluster attack. Even a single foolish samurai warrior can fight him one on one without worry.
He relies on mechanical minions that use his power source, but are not made of his flesh. The sacred sword is no stronger than a regular sword against them.
Aku just seems realistic even for an all powerful entity. When Jack slashes him, the power he loses is gone forever. He needs to harvest more from other sources in order to recover.
Tell us about "That guy" anon
Last night I learned that 'experience' does not make the best players.
>For various reasons party has come to a magical temple of a god of illusions
>We come to a room with three glass bridges with smoke on the sides, we determine which bridge is the least likely to break, so we'll be walking across that one
>Summoner decides to fly via his Eidolon instead, agro's two Mihstus that are probably above our level
>After dealing with them, we all walk across the bridge to a giant crystal thingy.
>Summoner goes in first, gets his magic recharged, has a vision about where his character specific illusions are and gets hurt in the process
>The bard then follows suit, recovers his spells, gets his less physically painful but more emotionally scarring vision and location of where his character specific illusion is
>Summoner decides it'd be a good idea to try to use this giant crystal that's so big you have to walk into to make his spells stronger in the dungeon
>DM warns him about the evil overlord list and drops hints that it's not a good idea
>Summoner does it anyways
>Bunch of musical instruments appear and the rest of the party needs to pass a reflex save or be hit by a piano, most of us pass but one of us does take 1/3rd of his HP in damage in the process and almost fell into a spike pit
>Summoner becomes a mist drake
>DM makes it clear that it's temporary
>Summoner's player keeps bitching about how he should be able to roll spellcraft to determine the caster level of the polymorph spell, DM and group says no
>Summoner talks about how he'll quit the campaign
>We manage to turn him back, what does his 'make magic stronger' endeavor get him?
>He has some free meta-magic casts. No meta-magic feats. Can only use power to increase spell DC.

Tell us more
you are the controller of a large research space station
You have been tasked with making super-soldiers
How do you go about making said super-soldiers?
Btw I am going to be running a game like this so I wanna see what /tg/ would do
Genetically engineering some babies in a tube seems like the most common first step, maybe making up some basic blueprints for different kinds of soldiers like one with especially good eyesight for super-snipers/spotters or one with overall good stats for the basic super-grunt.
If you have the funding to do so, enhancing them with specialized cybernetic augmentations is also possible and can be done even on regular soldiers if you don't have the option to grow test tube babies.
Post Landscape that you think might be cool in a setting.
Doesn't have to be a photo or even realistic, go wild.
Characters are accepted as long as it still qualifies as inspiration
will start with some pictures
>>53112681
What are your experiences with wargames that allow you to use any dudes?
Something like SoBaH or Mordheim mods (although the second one need more specified models).
I'm curious about your experiences with games that allow you to take bunch of your dudes, stat them and call it your warband.
I tried sobah but 2 stats thing wasn't so great for me. Currently looking at Open Combat as it has campaign rules similar to Mordheim which is great.
Share other rules you know, preferably for fantasy/middle ages but anything will do.
>>53112622
what do you mean whatever miniature? a generic ruleset for every setting? or miniature from whatever brand?
because if the latter, i have read the rules of Ronin and i must say those seems great.
>>53112805
I meant like generic ruleset for every (almost) setting. But both can be.
SOBAH is a perfect example. Model stat system is just too easy (2 stats in overall) so I'm looking for alternatives.
Is ronin based on samurai era?
>>53113015
Yep, Ronin is samurai era, but there is a official variant called En garde (it should be basically the same, but im not sure, dont know where to find the rules) from the same autor wich takes place in the musketeers era.
in regards of generic rulesets i dont know much sorry, but like you i would like to know more.
Are kitsune (or fox myths in general) a valid thing to base elves on in a setting?
If you want elves then why don't you use fucking elves?
>>53112258
But I want foxes.
>>53112258
Because elves look stupid.

Imp Fists forgot their Terminators, HH is for awesome, robot bullying occurred and SW are considered worst Legion. Lorgar got smacked down by Magnus and Ferrus but still did a better job. Emps is a dog person and Praetors argued about swords or hammers. Ashen Circle are lackluster choppy but excellent bullies, and Erebus and Kor still can't find a purpose in life. First for anybody got ideas for a good IF list? Tryina encompass all the aspects and themes that make them oh-so-loveable, while still keeping a solid list overall.
Imperial Fists: Pride of the Legion
>Praetor: Terminator Armor, Paragon Blade, Storm Shield, Digital Weapons
>Templar Brethren: 7 Templars, Solarite Power Gauntlet, LR Phobos
>Templar Brethren: 7 Templars, Solarite Power Gauntlet, Rhino
>Apothecarion Detachment: 2 Medicae, Power Swords
>Legion Rapiers: 3 Laser Destroyer Arrays
>Terminator Squad: 3 Power Fists, 2 Chain Fists, Iliastus Assault Cannon, Teleportation Transponder
>Terminator Squad: 3 Power Fists, 2 Chain Fists, Iliastus Assault Cannon, Teleportation Transponder
>Veteran Tactical Squad: 7 Veterans, Combi-Weapons, Rhino
>Veteran Tactical Squad: 7 Veterans, Combi-Weapons, Rhino
>3 Javelin Landspeeders
>Deredeo Dreadnought: Plasma Cannonade
>Sicarian Battle Tank: Lascannon Sponsons, Dozer Blade
>Vindicators: Dozer Blade, Machine Spirit
So I like it a lot, my only thought/concern is that the rhino Templars might be a bit useless, maybe it'd be a little more advantageous to grab a third terminator Squad and some nuncio-voxes instead?
Also it's really disappointing Champion Consuls suck so much, 35 points for effectively nothing (especially with Fists since the power gauntlet is better and has MC base) suuuucks. At least with like UM or something you can grab one of those swanky axes.
>>53111926
>templar brethren in a rhino
Honestly, probably better not to take the squad at all if you can't afford the points for an assault vehicle for them.

Ok anon, say it now, get it out in the open, and off of your chest.
We won't judge you (well, there might be a little judgement), and you'll feel better for saying it.
I'll start.
>As forever DM for years, I lied to my players about not being able to 'think up anything', when we play other games, just so I can play and not have to GM it.
> One of my players irks me. He's fine IG, no issues, but I don't like the PLAYER. And when I roll to see which PC a monster attacks, I've often had it attack him, just because of that.
>Our D&D games violate a RAW every single game, because that's how we started playing it (when we didn't know it was wrong), and I've never said a word about it. For years, I've known it was wrong, but don't want to admit it, and change things.
>When one player wanted to invite his wife to play (i don't like her), I told him that we had a new guy coming that day, and his wife would make too many people. (there was no new guy)
>I insert subtle racism into my games. Orcs/goblins often behave like Detroit urban dwellers. They rob/riot/kill for no good reason.
Well.......I feel better now.
>>53110395
I've never actually played a proper tabletop in my life.
Ran online games for randoms? Sure, why not. Done worldbuilding? Yeah, I did. Designed homebrews? That too.
But actually sitting down and playing a game with 3 or 4 people? Never in my life.
The only reason I post on /tg/ is because it's the only more or less civil board on 4chan that encourages creativity.
>>53110395
Also....
>I don't like druids unless the player plays them as a true nature lover, and will punish that pc in 1000 little ways, or reward the pc in 1000 little ways, depending on the players style.
>>53110447
>I've never actually played a proper tabletop in my life.
Shit man.
Is that by choice? or because of conditions?
Why does GW keep retconning canon and using story "progression" to make the forces of Chaos blatant Evil Mary Sues?
>>53107758
And an example before any fanboys call me an even bigger fanboy
>Fantasy, you had:
>Drachenfels, a dude the chaos gods were scared of
>Malal, a god who wanted to destroy the chaos gods
>Gods of Law, who were even matches/arch nemeses of the chaos gods
>Storm of Chaos, where the biggest chaos invasion ever was totally defeated
but GW retconned it into:
>Drachenfels entire backstory was gone and he was just some spirit, no chaos god intimidation
>Malal ceases to exist
>Gods of Law never mentioned again in GW works except for some prick saying they aren't real
>Storm of Chaos never happens, End Times happens instead, chaos wins easily and annihilates everyone
>GW makes both Fantasy and 40k endless cycles of chaos gods destroying reality for their own amusement and nothing can stop them ever because they're so tough and cool and evil and hey why are you leaving what do you mean we suck at writing wait no don't leave buy our books first
>>53107792
>>Drachenfels, a dude the chaos gods were scared of
Drachenfels said he was more evil, the Chaos Gods were never scared of him.
>>Malal, a god who wanted to destroy the chaos gods
The creator of Malal left and took the rights to Malal with him. Not that it matters, Malal was shitty and the Chaos Gods want to destroy each other anyway.
>>Gods of Law, who were even matches/arch nemeses of the chaos gods
This wasn't the case. Law was only considered one of the possible forms of Chaos.
>>Storm of Chaos, where the biggest chaos invasion ever was totally defeated
GW wanted to get rid of Fantasy. I'd also say the first war against Chaos was bigger.
You're just being a baby.
>>53107898
>never scared of him
He told them to give him troops or he'd fuck them up. They gave him troops.
>malal copyright
Yeah, true. It's not Workshop's fault that Malal had to go. He wasn't shitty though. He added an interesting dynamic back then.
>wasn't the case
Law and Ruin came out of the same primordial pool, forming the singular entity of Chaos/Uncertainty. Law gods fought the Ruin gods (back when the "gods of chaos" as we know them were almost always called "ruinous powers" instead)
>gw wanted to get rid of fantasy
Shame on them for it.
>just being a baby
Being a baby and getting angry at a company for constantly taking a fat steaming load over a world(s) you care about to give hardcore felatio to a single faction at the expense of all others are two different things.
