its easy, fast and fun.
even casuals can learn AOS with 15 min so its like baby fist wargame
>>
There are poeple out there who geniunely like the aesthetics (just like there are guys who geniunely like being pegged)
>>
The game still has good/cool mini's. Haven't played the game myself, but saw a chance to pick up the AoS starter super cheap and said fuck it these look cool enough to work on. Even picked up the Ork megaboss or whatever because he's a hell of a beefy mofo. As long as the mini's are cool and the game isen't complete dog shit, it's gonna garner attention.

Worm is the Skub of /tg/, I personally liked it. It had a lot of problems but the things that it did well it did very well, like world building, creative powers and status quo shake ups.

i read his other series, Pact, and liked it never read the third one he is currently working on.

In a zombie apocalypse or a setting similar, how can I check if I can trust a stranger?

I would like to be good but I don't want to wake up with my neck sliced.

What's your GM like? That's 99% of the game right there. If your GM is full HURPDURP GRIMDARK APOCALYPSE, then literally everyone is going to be a backstabbing cuntnugget because GoT an TWD has taught him that this is what is "realistic."

If your GM is more reasonable, trust but verify. Always try to be in a position of strength but never capitalize on it unless you absolutely need to. The scenario helps too; if a dude approaches you alone, in good health, and with a decent amount of resources, chances are he stole everything from the last group that let him in.

And to be fair, you probably aren't going to end up with your neck sliced. That would end the game right there; it's much more likely that they'll just steal everything that isn't nailed down and bugger off in the middle of the night.

What are some tips veterans could dish out to novice Dungeon Explorers?

Stuff like-
>Bring a 10-foot pole to prod things from afar
>Sprinkle pepper on treasure chests
>Walking along walls is much safer than walking in the center of corridors
>Don't make camp near water

>>
>carry potions
>make rope traps with bells to alert you of danger
>conceal your camp fire
>don't sleep on the open
>sneak trough the forest, everything does you should too
>gather as much information as possible. know thy enemy
>>

If you're not sure you can succeed, you better prepare more
>>
>>53143406
Some things I've passed along:

>shaving powder/tooth powder can be used to invisible opponents while also keeping you clean.
>everyone should have a small hand mirror and signal whistle. Perfect for communication over long distances.
>chalk is incredibly useful
>running from enemies in a castle/dungeon/whatever? Jam a piton in a door. Gives you enough time to prepare before they break it down.
>always go left and keep your left side to the walk. Easier to remember where you are and keeps your right arm open to swing and attack with.
>familiars cost experience, but anyone can buy a dog.

>get my group to make characters and backstories before I tell them what the setting/campaign will be
>decide I'm just gonna do out of the abyss
>that's an underdark campaign
>I have 7 players, 4 of which made humans
>I tell them they'll have an annoying disadvantage most of the game and if they want to change race they can
>the first guy I work with to change his back story to fit a dark elf better, pretty satisfied with that
>the rest change to some form of elf
>the party is now 4.5/7 elf
>the reason they changed to elves specifically is because they want to remain as human as possible

My dilemma here is I just want more diversity in the party, what are some more humanoid races with heights more akin to regular humans that I can offer them?
37 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Just tell that the average elf is noticeably shorter than the average human.
>>
>>53142853
if you wanted diversity, you should have communicated it to your players before letting them make their characters and, more importantly, telling them what setting you want to play before they make them. Now they already commited to their characters, made up a story that fits humans, and can either half ass it onto another race or having to leave their initial idea behind after putting in the thoughts.
If I was a player I'd be pretty pissed if you told me to whatever I want and THEN make me change.
>>
>>53142853
>Create your characters and backstory!
>Nope, won't tell you what campaign is.
>Ok, it's...
>Now change your characters and backstory to fit it
Dude fuck you.

I actually have more problems rolling high stats and then feeling bad that if I want to do X or Y then I'll completely overshadow someone with poorer rolls who would no longer be the best at the only thing they're good at if I took a certain option.

Maybe if characters actually died more than once every real life year rolling for stats might be a bit more acceptable, but some people still try to apply it to multiple-year-long campaigns.

And anyway, varied stats barely even mean anything outside of game balance. It's just a +5% or -5% chance the DM tells you that you're successful. And there's not really much fun in that other than the same effect you'd have from giving two players loaded dice and one player a normal dice and telling them what dice they have.

Of course, you could build a character based on the stats you have, but rolling for stats in order is far better for that because otherwise point buy would be just as good for building a character outside of 'Oh, he's powerful' or 'Oh, he's a fucking peasant' which aren't really awfully interesting character traits, and you could do with point buy anyway.

Repostan' from last thread.

>Kill, as in how often would you attack an unconscious player to kill them as an enemy, like if things got too bad for my party (couple unconscious, no good spell slots)

I mean it depends on what kind of game you're running. Are your players OK with dying? Is it a high lethality campaign? This sounds like borderline TPK territory, so if your players are OK with it then absolutely kill them. If they're not, maybe have them be saved by something and owe it a debt, or capture them so they can escape later. Certainly if half the party is down, and the other half isn't in good shape, then it would make sense to finish off some of the more dangerous members especially if there's healing.

So what's up with bards? What's the point of the class?

What role do the bards play in a campaign? Why would a musician enter a dungeon, or some war situation perhaps, and how do they think they could help there? How come just singing and stuff has an equal billing to fighting, stealing, and magic using in an adventure?

And why was it so much trouble to enter the class in the first place in the 1st edition AD&D? How come they can fight and shit when all you really would need to be a bard is to know how to sing and play a lute? Was it a totally different thing back then, thematically, than the modern bards?

I don't get it.

Bards were such utter trash in 1e that they may as well not have existed.
>>
Never liked them as a class myself but the idea of "magic via music/well performed speeches" isn't an awful one and certainly fits the D&D universe.
>>
They venture into dungeons to record the heroic deeds of great warriors and wizards. Bards want to compose songs and ballads that will be sung for eternity, so they need some inspiration.

And if you go dungeon-delving you better know how to hold a sword.

Any tips for a druid venturing into the Underdark for the first time? I'm thinking being able to transform into a giant Fire Beetle or something with tremor sense would be useful.

>>53142347
A fire beetle will die in one or two hits by basically anything that exists. This will also killed your druid, no matter his level, since you are obliged to use the beast's hit points.
This is a bad idea. All you need is the Light Cantrip or anything with darkvision (tremorsense range is too small to be useful). Do not become this fucking beetle, not even as a joke.

Three possible characters for Serpent's Skull:

>Serial Killer Vigilante | Vivisectionist Alchemist, tells others he signed on to forget about his since deceased wife but is in fact running from persecution for a grisley string of politically motivated murders in Maginmar against the Council of Ushers. Signed on as the expedition's physician.

>Scared Witch Doctor | Warden Ranger field guide. Signed on at the edge of the Mugwani expanse to go looking for a brother deeper into the enormous jungles.

>Cloistered Cleric | Preacher Inquisitor, signed up in Taldor to bring the good word to the people of the Mugwani expanse. He's the ship's missionary.

Which should I go for? The doctor, the guide, or the missionary?

Let's talk about drills /tg/.
One of my PCs is a warforged. One of the other PCs has been doing extensive research in-game to learn how to modify him.
What he wants to do is give him a gurren lagann style drill hand to allow him to have a "dig speed" how other creatures have a fly speed or swim speed.
What would you say is the best balance between being too realistic (ie saying no to any sort of underground travel and remind him that's not even what step drill bits are for) or too fantastic (ie him having a 15+ underground speed with no issues and being able to cut through anything and sneak up on enemies.)?
31 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>53140564
Depends on what feats you pick for your character. If you have underground movement speed then it doesn't matter how you fluff it, as having a drill hand or whatever.
>>
>piercing drills
mediocre damage, great at overcoming defense/DR
>shredding drills
high damage, bad at getting through armor
>ojou drills

Why is it in fantasy games monsters take money and stuff when it has no real value to them? Like, weapons, armor, that kind of thing can be good for humanoid monsters and such but what are some other reasons that aren't just 'GM has to give party something as a reward?'

>wraith guarding its barrow riches
>rich vampire count who is like a "new money" Gatsby vampire
