How do you play druids and rangers? Those classes are infamous for being largely centered around "muh forest" and "muh nature" - things your average party is unlikely to care about.

"on a nat 1, you forget your action and immediately do a different, retarded thing" isn't a mechanics fuck up, it's a storytelling and narration fuck up. (unless you consider adjudication a mechanic...)

anyway, the first game i GMed was a single session of "everyone is john". i kept wondering about my players' abysmal success rate and how long the game was taking. it took me an entire hour and half to remember the fucking "pay willpower to improve a roll" mechanic.

1985 Space Marine Captain edition

This thread is for people with 30+ years of gaming history to discuss how the hobby has changed, for better and for worse.

What got you started? And what kept you going?

For me, I started with D&D basic in the early 80's. I played GW games like Battlecars and Talisman when D&D wasn't an option. Played a lot of Car Wars too.

It was buying a big plastic blister of Talisman models in 1985 that got me into modelling. From there it was all about the lead farming.

So how do you feel about the evolution of the hobby? I'm both enjoying and dreading it's slow emergence in the mainstream. And I know I hate it becoming a gender war battleground. Life was so much simpler when we were kids.

>Minimum requirement of 30+ years in the hobby

Well that'll be why I'm the first post then.
>>
>>53245210
>What got you started?
DSA/TDE, mid 80s. Played most big systems, but from the 90s on Shadowrun was big for me. Later the 40k RPGs.

>And what kept you going?
I am a daydreamer and this allows me to express myself.

>So how do you feel about the evolution of the hobby?
I like the pure creativity of modern, narrative or rules-light games as a source of inspiration but they are not my cup of tea otherwise. I hate the politization of the hobby but it seeping into mainstream would be good for the mainstream. The art has become more colorful but often also more childish and/or soulless.

Overall, it's just fine though.

Tzimisce anti-tribu, who's agreed to stop making horrible monstrosities in exchange for the safety the camarilla offers. But he misses the art. He's a plastic surgeon without a license but beautiful results, and he accepts credit and advertises by word of mouth. But if you miss a payment... he hauls you back in, and leaves something awful on you. Something small, somewhere easy to cover. But it's something for him. A little bit of the art back. He's treading a line, and soon enough, he'll learn whether he can give up his sculpting for safety, or whether he will eventually lose himself to the needs of the craft.

Boy scout, just before eagle, total freakin' loser who just got killed by a serial killer and had to come to terms with the fact the only thing there could have been to say about him, when he died, is that he got pretty close to getting his eagle badge, and almost nothing else. As a Geist now, he's trying to figure out whether that's really a life goal he wants anymore, and if not, what to do with himself now. Plays as a skillmonkey.

Samurai. Second son of a feudal lord, essentially groomed just to take care of military matters for when his brother becomes daimyo. Joined a band of warriors dedicated to killing a powerful demon king who was steamrolling a bunch of other clans and making a beeline for the capital. Got his ass handed to him and returned home to find everything destroyed, his father dead, his brother missing, and the land taken over by a rival clan that wants his head. Has since left his home country of the setting's Not!Japan to find his brother, find out what happened, and hopefully make some friends who want to kick some demon ass along the way. Plays a bit like a hero in a Kurosawa film.

Hey /tg/ what are some tips for playing a prostitute or ex-prostitute character? I don't know much about prostitution in medieval times. Is it right to say a polytheistic pagan-inspired D&D society would have fewer problems with prostitution than the IRL Christian medieval Europe?
77 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
>>53243403
In feudalism you don't own money unless you are royalty so prostitution didn't exist.

/thread
>>
Christianity or not, it's still a medieval setting, so personal hygiene becomes srs fckn bsns, and the churches/temples have a near monopoly on healing magic. Prostitutes would therefore tend to fall in to a few categories:
>priestesses of a sex goddess
>filthy gutter skanks
>adventuresses trying to seduce money, loot, or intel out of the PCs
>hungry succubae

How do we subvert the "lamp full of wishes" trope?
90 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
>>53239550
Play it straight.
>>
>>53239550

The lamp needs to be filled with wishes first, by consuming them.
>>
>>53239550
Put a demon in the lamp.
Make the lamp reveal some bullshit when you burn it.
Make the lamp cursed: when you get it your luck goes to shit, and even when you try to get rid of it you'll keep running into it.

Alternatively, dont play a setting where "wish" tier spells are canon.
