"Primaris Marines Are Tearing Us Apart" Edition
For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.
Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.
>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
Because they were bought by Asmodee and that caused some sort of licensing conflict.
>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.
>Where did the Mandragora Apocrypha go?
The namefag working on it has fucked off to finish it in peace after our autists yelled at him over the unfinished version they found.

Armfag was right.

Hello armfag.
L5R general, for all your CCG, LCG and RPG discussion needs.
For those not in the know (somehow), AEG sold L5R to Fantasy Flight Games last gen con, FFG is getting ready to launch the new LCG later this year and has been putting out a slow trickle of news and previews over the last month or so.
Here's the announcement post and three mechanics updates for anyone who hasn't seen them yet:
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/4/19/legend-of-the-five-rings-the-card-game/
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/4/26/crafting-a-dynasty/

Fluff is reset to pre-Clan War. Doji Hoturi is now a girl and also gay for Bayushi Kachiko, so they did definitely preserve that key aspect of the character. Spider are out, Mantis are pirates, and everything is gravy. Probably. The first fiction we got is here, starring Doji Hotaru. We're likely to get one per clan over the coming months to Gen Con.

So, in the spirit of kicking off discussion: What is your favorite clan and what changes do you hope FFG might slide in there during this wild west, anything goes reset period?
And if you're an RPG player, what are your hopes and fears for the inevitable 5e that FFG puts out in 2018 probably?
>>53289914
Unicorn here. Hopefully the purple ponies won't be shit like they were in Gold. I will miss multiple province battles in a single attack phase. That shit was what made the 'corn fun to play.
As for the RPG, I hope they keep the Roll and Keep system. I fear we're getting snowflake dice to the tune of five elemental rings, honor, glory, status, and tainted dice. Shit has the potential to be a huge cash grab.
>>53289914
>What is your favorite clan and what changes do you hope FFG might slide in there during this wild west, anything goes reset period?
My favorites are the Crane and the Spider (I am not a fan of the Horde). I'm hoping that if the Spider get brought back they do so in a way that other players do not feel is a slap in the face.
>And if you're an RPG player, what are your hopes and fears for the inevitable 5e that FFG puts out in 2018 probably?
I hope they keep the Roll and Keep system and fear that they will use SWTOR's dice system.
I want them to make a wide variety of weapons viable.
>>53290098
>. I fear we're getting snowflake dice to the tune of five elemental rings, honor, glory, status, and tainted dice. Shit has the potential to be a huge cash grab.
That's my fear too, but they bought RnK as part of the game buy and FFG didn't throw out the 40k system when they started producing their own games for the license after buying the extant Dark Heresy. So fingers crossed.
In the absolute worst case I'm not opposed to continuing to run 4e. It has a ton of support, and the Imperial Histories books give plenty of eras to play in which are fully detailed for GM and player use. Not to mention the new canon, since it is possible they'll go a whole weird new direction once the story gets rolling.
Have you had any problems with your game group? I had to kick someone out recently. Didn't feel good, but was necessary. What are you tales of game group drama? Stories of related issues welcome.
Dude kept giving bullshit reasons for not showing up, when he eventually gave 3 different answers to 3 different people in the group we just kicked him.
>>53289058
My groups just fall apart after ten sessions because of schedule clashes and shit. Never for any exciting reasons.
I'm going avoid giving too much detail because I know for a fact this person I am writing about, who shall remain nameless and genderless, browses /tg/.
My current group are mostly friends, we hang out a lot and play vidya but have not really done any RPGing together for a while. This is largely due to the actions of a particular group member whom I shall refer to as M. M has a habit of joining RPG campaigns and being extremely disruptive. M will attempt to monopolize the DM's attention, dictate to the DM how he/she should run their game, introduce house rules that specifically benefit M's build at the expense of everyone else, try to dictate to other players how to run their characters and generally try to make the entire thing about M. When M does not get their way, M will respond by be pouting, sulking and trying to sabotage the campaign. I have seen this firsthand and other group members have confided in me that M has done the same things in their games.
I planned to start a new RPG campaign that I knew M would be interested in. However, wanting to be the adult in the room and nip this problem in the bud, I sat down with M and told M face to face that I thought it would be best if M sat the game out. I was diplomatic about it and explained my reasons. M seemed to be calm, but no sooner than the discussion was finished I learned that M had contacted all of our other group members to bitch about what a horrible person I was for doing this.
In the end, the drama got so bad that I was politely asked to refrain from discussing my campaign in our favorite hang out spot.
/TG/ Should Tax policies be important when you play?
And If so How could they be implemented in-game?
>>53263355
No. There is no story on the planet that would be improved by the inclusion of fictional tax policies. Nobody wants to read that shit except autists.
Tax policy can be important on occasion. What is more important is currency itself. How money moves, different nation's currency, where money is centered around, banks, institutions, and more. Money is important to every setting.
>>53263355
Finishing your novels is also very important.
But fuck that shit, Imma go to Wendy and eat 6 Baconators.

Hmm...
My original concept for the combat system (escalating rolls) didn't work in practice due to incoherence and insane scaling I was not prepared for, so I decided to go with action points instead, and getting a two-sided health bar type of thing going on.
So shortly, everyone rolls 2d6 for how much action points they have. If they have managed to get some advantages or disadvantages during the fight, they are counted toward it.
So the idea is that there are two bars going for the middle, Strain and Despair.
Strain is something that comes from external stuff, basically the "damage" tally. It can be caused if you use your abilities and fail the check.
Despair is what comes from within, the players being able to take points of despair to push rolls and resist being knocked out.
When the two meet, things get bad for the player, and further hits always require a roll to not get knocked out.
I'm thinking of how to determine the "hit" difficulty, due to my system being a roll-over system where stats are better when they're low. I can't just convert stats into difficulties due to it not making sense in this context...
Before I had the idea of escalating rolls, but now I think I could just go that every attack is simply a contested roll.
>>53261336
Rolling for action points seems brutal, if that one roll is determining how shitty/normal/gucci you will fare for the whole encounter.
Wouldn't an attrtibute-sourced AP pool work better for reliability? I'm sorry if you released a PDF, I never caught it (like, if attributes don't exist in the game).
>>53261336
To clarify, this is mostly to ask opinions about the dual-sided "health" bar.
It works so that sometimes you use despair to hit or accomplish something else on the field, and it creeps up slowly. Strain on the other hand, is basically just regular "HP" in the sense that you can just take a nap and get rid of 1d6 of it.
You can't actually die unless you really rack up on Despair, a little like in TBZ where you need to check the "Death" box to be able to die. If you ever roll under your Despair in any situation, you basically get into a position where you would be ejected from the scene, no matter if it happened while you're taking coffee from a coffee shop.
Strain can cause you to run out of juice, meaning you become unable to use your powers "effortlessly", and of course cause you to get knocked out.
Both have their own rolls, meaning Despair is checked against on every roll you make, and Strain is rolled against every time you go over the damage threshold.
>>53261397
Have an un-updated version as of now, just focus on everything but "conflict rolls" if you want to know what's up. I haven't been here for months due to there being little progress due to playtesting.
I can't use attributes, because my system has reverse attributes, basically. The lower the stat the better. So somehow converting to...
Wait, I might have struck an idea.
What if, instead of action points going downwards, there is something that goes upwards and makes it harder to make actions, rather than it being some super-brutal 2d6 roll basically.
Allright, how about "Fatigue" or "Stamina" bar on TOP of this. Every time you make an action, you add a point to your fatigue bar (I really like using bars instead of numbers it seems). If you roll under your fatigue, you complete the action but take Strain.
Shit, this combat system is turning into some real fricking resource management. Although, this is still peanuts, because these are the only thing you need to worry about.
Does The Dark Tower series make for an interesting setting for an RPG, or is it too linear and sparse in detail?
I've only read the first book so I don't know, but I'd be interested the thoughts of some elegan/t g/entlemen.
>>53325373
One of my all-time favorite campaigns was set in the Kingverse.
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Campaign:End-World
Read the first four books, read Wolves of the Calla if you really want to, skip 6 and 7, make sure to read The Wind Through The Keyhole and The Little Sisters of Eluria, as well as The Talisman and Black House (Black House especially as parts of it take place in Mid-World and End-World).
If you really like the setting after getting through those, you might want to get a copy of the DT Concordance, which is a setting bible. It's very handy because there are a LOT of crossovers between the DT books and King's other books. In before Rowling copypasta
>>53325751

But isn't that the big finale? He even named it "The Dark Tower." That sounds kind of important.

I've heard /tg/'s had some drama with jojo threads in the past, but hopefully we can still have them occasionally because I need one right now.
I'm gonna be running a JoJo campaign for my group, but could use suggestions on what system to use, how to go about it in general.
Go ahead and post ideas for stands, stand users, plots and or locations/points in time that would make good parts if you like
>>53319862
「Linked Horizon」has two modes: 「Support and Bolster」and 「Self Sacrifice」
The first permeates the air with energy and gives all allies (Stand users and Stands) within 100 ft of the Stand user a Regeneration passive ability, an Energizing passive ability as well as an increase to Dexterity/Agility (speed) and Constitution (durability).
「Self Sacrifice」Boosts the power of the stand and stand user considerabily by two, five or even ten times. They acquire Regeneration and Energizing passive abilities as if under the effect of 「Support and Bolster」as well as an increase to all abilities by two, five or ten times. The 「Sacrifice」comes when, after a fight, the Stand user will become extremely tired and probably fall asleep if he multiplied his power by five or ten times: he will be sleeping for the duration of the time he spent in this mode multiplied by four, ten or twenty respectively.
Stats:
-Destructive power (B)
-Speed (B)
-Range (C)
-Precision (A)
-Development Potential (A)

Has anyone had any luck with any of the systems designed specifically for JoJo?
Would Chaos and followers of the Corpse God ever work together?
I mean, Chaos is pretty mutated but they are still mostly human, if they were attacked by Xenos I could see them holding a temporary truce
I mean certain Spess Marine chapters are already pretty much Khorne worshipers
>>53319560
No. Xenos are basically just things you kill because of what they are. Traitors are people you HATE because of the things they've done.
>>53319560
At best they would possibly focus on an overwhelming threat before going back to killing each other, but co-operation is pretty much right out. This isn't like the Imperium and Eldar occasionally teaming up when their interests coincide. Chaos has it in for the Imperium. Seeing it burn has been the #1 objective for most of their followers since the Horus Heresy. They are the most bitter of foes, and the best you're going to get is a choice to shoot a much larger threat first, and even that's not a guarantee.
>>53319560
The Imperium is more likely to cooperate with xenos against Chaos than the other way around. Hell, that's exactly what they did in the Gothic War.

>>53319377
Yeah, me and the guy have had an in-character thing where we've gotten into some spats. Nothing major and it's just roleplay. He does seem to pick on the Cleric a lot to the point of being an ass.
Me and the Cleric are on pretty good terms and I've often helped him during in character issues. So I feel like this guys antics are getting out of hand now that he's actually gone to the point of making attack rolls against the Cleric.
I probably won't bother using Suggestion against the Oathbreaker unless he goes full autism and tries to kill someone, but Hypnotic Gaze might be a better option.
