How would our real world Earth react to The Imperium arriving to reabsorb us, Dark Heresy style? As in our world is effectively a planet beset by a Dark Heresy, not as in the RPG

How would you react?

I think as soon as the world powers realized that the imperium had both the capability and willingness to flatten our planet (or at the very least their country) from orbit, they'd bend the knee. If whoever showed up on behalf of the Imperium had a brain, we'd be pretty easy to divide and conquer. If someone resisted, it'd probably be as simple as to orbitally bombard one of their population centers and grant some privileges to their rivals.

I'd try to get on with my life and hope I don't get tithed into the guard.
>>
>>53323162
Considering we have high tech industries and are nearly ready to exploit the solar system, we'd probably be mostly tithed raw materials more than anything. Maybe they'd take a tenth of our armies and turn them into guard regiments, we do have a shitload of professional soldiers and even a tenth would be huge.

Or would they be constantly sharpening themselves against the others, making it fucking terrible for everyone else?
>>
>>53317755
So like it combats them constantly to become deadlier? Because don't needs evolve to meet their current threat? They could hurt themselves by adapting to fighting these guys only to catch a bolter to the chest later on in kife and be completely destroyed by it.
>>
>>53317711
>Flood
I believe they would be pretty evenly matched at first but ultimatly the Nids would lose since the Flood are far more resilient and can assimilate other lifeforms much more quickly.

>The Thing
Nids would probably lose a few units before realizing something was wrong and destroying the Thing.

>Top Left
Isn't that just another Tyranid?

>Bottom Left

I think folks living there would've picked up on the flooding. I have a feeling it would turn into a fantasy themed Water World, which I'm all for.

Giant palaces and castles on giant ships.

Is there a Half-Life tabletop setting? I've been searching for a while and they're either incomplete or deleted.

It'd be easy enough to do in GURPS, or Savage Worlds if you prefer more pulpy action and less crunch. Fate's a possibility if you're more of a story guy.

Report.

I could use some assistance in mending a frail and shattered group dynamic.

Earlier, I had run my first session of a D&D 4e campaign. Two players had a smidge of experience with the system, and two were totally new. I had known all four players on as long-time contacts, and they knew me reasonably well.

I had thought that the first encounter would be easy enough, and indeed, I knew to be gentle on the party initially. I even made a conscious effort to avoid any and all action denial effects.

However, try as they might, they could not win. I overestimated their tactical prowess, the enemies had good initiative, and the enemies were exactly the type to capitalize on high initiative results by alpha striking.

It does not help that I am always the type to have intelligent enemies use optimal tactics that I as a player was familiar with, so the players constantly found themselves outmaneuvered and tactically screwed over by these enemies that were not that much stronger by them.

Perhaps an additional source of frustration was that there was just enough hope to pull through and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but those extra rounds of playing out the encounter were futile.

All players were deeply resentful, and one player had quit the game. The group dynamic has all but disintegrated by now.

We tried to discuss potential solutions after the session, but I do not think much progress was made. I am not the type to have intelligent monsters use suboptimal tactics, because it simply does not satisfy me, and my tactical RPG instincts are too strong for me to consciously dial down. I could use weaker monsters or less monsters, but one player has complained that it means that the heroes will *not* be the one using their wits and cunning to take down stronger foes. I suppose I could try to sell that for these enemies, much of their might lies in their keen battle instincts, and therefore, overcoming them in battle is a great accomplishment.

How might I fix this?

Bullet to the head. Game over, new group, new plot, new starting level.
>>
>>53335717
Normally, encounters are significantly weaker than the party. If the enemy has a 50/50 shot of taking out the party, the party will be taken out once out of every two encounters.
>>
>>53335733

A bit extreme when the group is sufficient, and the players have expressed strong interest in the plot.

>>53335782

I predicted a near-guaranteed victory on the party's part, but I vastly overestimated the party's ability to play characters I walked them through step by step in optimizing.

Never heard of it, but FACERIP is a pretty great name.
>>
I had a lot of fun with it in the early 90's, very high "beer & pretzels" value, where you randomly roll up characters and play.

That said, not a lot of options back then either and most of us were pretty casual so stuff like GURPS Supers or Paladium was eight out.

It's light and fun and good for a laugh as long as you're not looking for something too serious.
>>
>>53335021
Best superhero game out there imho but a bit dated - both ruleswise as well as editing. But it's basically simple to use and hits all marks for me when it comes to genre simulation.

>>53335338
>not a lot of options
Anon, you're not supposed to play the Basic game and then spout shit based on that. Advanced MSH is the only MSH worth considering.

In this thread, we will create fantasy herbs, spices, fungi, and fish to fill our campaign worlds and the worlds of others.
If you already have some that are in your campaign world, go ahead and share them!

Here are some questions you might ask about your creations.
>If it is an herb or fungi, what time of year does it grow? Can it be ground up to make a spice, and if so, what are the spice's properties?
>Is it edible? If so, what do people or creatures use it for in a culinary sense? If not, what else would people or creatures use it for?
>If it is a fish, is it found in freshwater or saltwater? How big does it get? What might it look like?

>Mountain Bulb

The Mountain Bulb, also known as the Stone Potato, is a small type of tuber begins growth from a certain type of algae in between cracks in rocks. It is a light tan color most of the time, is known to grow during any time of year when it is not incredibly cold, and typically grows in clusters.
Folk who live in the mountains where Mountain Bulbs grow, will boil it and eat it whole, but boiling it is only necessary to soften it up a bit; it can be eaten raw. It is also good for soups and stews.
The way in which it grows leads to a lot of people having a large rock in their home, from which they are able to grow the tuber continuously.

>>
>Baron's Buttons (known also as belt-caps and baron's buckles)

Baron's Buttons are a small, flat fungus that grows mainly in the mid-autumn to late winter. They grow only at specific increments from ley-lines, which they draw from to heat up whatever dead material they're rotting, even enough to create a divet in snowfall. This also causes them to grow in some rather unusual colors, though they don't tend to be patterned. If they are patterned, consider it an omen.

If ground up, it can be used to improve the heating effects of firewood, and adds some pretty colors to the flame. Unskilled use, however, can result in an explosion. If mixed with certain other herbs, it can be used as a tonic that keeps the body pleasantly warm.

How can people argue the whole "necromancy totally isn't evil in golarion, people are just racist" when shit like Undead Uprisings happen?

Undead Uprising sometimes come from curses or necromancy magic, but can also just naturally occur after bloody battles in mass graves.

Undead Uprisings literally have thousands of dead raise to hunt the living and create more undead until they make intelligent undead generals and create an undead hivemind that directs the hoards like an army. Then it starts actually turning the entire area unholy before creating a necropolis.

When this shit can happen who the fuck can argue for the 'misunderstood necromancer' when our examples of uncontrolled undead try and create undead armies and exterminate the living?
