Does that sound silly and I should stay with conventional spaceships?
>>53377602
Sounds perfectly fine to me.
>>53377602
I like it better than spaceships, actually. Just take into account that people will not be expecting a regular sci-fi game but something more oriented towards fantasy.
It's definitely fine, Stargate mostly works with this premise, with a network of gates made by ancient aliens.

From this I guess we can assume the toughness value of most monstrous creatures isnt changing but they might gain more wounds to counter the abundance of weapons that deal multiple wounds.

There are complaints about female characters always being attractive, but how many female players actually ever make unattractive characters? Legitimately unattractive, not just "has cool scars" or ""unconventionally" attractive".
This is a matter of general trends, there are exceptions, et cetera, but generally I observe that female players make one of a few types of characters:
1. An idealized version of themselves
2. A version of their ideal lover, as close as the system/setting allows
3. A small cute (and/or annoying) thing
4. Some horrible ravening monstrous creature that you eventually realize is, for the girl in question, actually a variant of type 2
For the sake of balance, my observance of trends among male players is that they make one of:
1. An idealized heroic/edgy antiheroic version of themselves
2. An embodiment of their fetish
3. A character designed as an excuse to act like an asshole in-game
4. A copy or mashup of their favourite anime/video game/etc character(s) at the time
And both, if they're familiar with the game, have an option on: 5. A character designed to be OP gamebreaking bullshit.
Does this line up with your experience? Do you yourself follow these trends, or would you assert that you defy them?
>>53370775
People of both genders tend not to make unattractive characters period, unless it is the point of the character they're unattractive and brutish, or somehow disfigured.
>>53370780
This.
Honestly I don't personally have much of a problem with players making characters loosely based off of idealized or exaggerated facets of their own personalities, and a lot of fantasy actually seems to often be based off such concepts, dating even back to ancient times, when mythological figures often represented specific aspects of common human qualities, be they heroic or flawed in nature.
>>53370775
I've seen plenty of women doing "male 4." Overall though I'd say >>53370780 is right, unattractive characters just tend to be rare. Though I've seen plenty of players of both genders who are vague enough on the physical description of their character that it would be hard to say if they were attractive, unattractive, or neither. For a lot of people it just isn't an important aspect of their character at all.
Let's get it all out in the open - our biggest DM failings. The three things we're terrible at when we run things, because none of us are perfect and maybe voicing it out will force us to deal with it.
>>53369886
I get bored fo writing down things too fast, so my campaigns always start with a specific idea and goals but I'll get too lazy to get it through proerply after the first three sessions.
I tried running one-shots but I'm also bad at writing short stories.
Here's mine:
1) I'm absolutely terrible at conveying importance and danger - what is worth focusing on, what is just flavor, and what you should really prepare for. The party will always ignore the important clues and instead look into random false rumors, and won't prepare for dangerous treks unless I outright state them OOC that "Yeah, this shit's going to be a doozy, better bring some food and extra set of warm clothes". I can't find the balance between too subtle and completely hamhanded.
2) I suck at bringing up character backstories and motivations into the game. I mostly just look at the stuff, occasionally say I like it, but it rarely comes up and I always have a hard time dealing with it when the players follow their things, certainly have no idea how their friends or family would pop up. A friend of mine is amazing at this: whenever I play in his games, I'm surprised how quickly my character's own personal stuff starts to come up. The best I can do is to give them stuff of my own and hope they care about it.
3) I have no little idea how to finish things. I get excited about campaigns but they tend to fizzle out before the end, and if they do get to the end, then it's never in any neat manner that would close all the plot threads or be properly and organically epic. Again, same friend is great at this: his endings actually feel like endings.
>>53369886
My three biggest failures?
>allowed switching to a "full' system too early (entire group is beginners)
>have a hard time putting my foot down when my players argue with me in general
>NPCs are either boring as shit or """quirky"""" (not really a good actor)
>forgot my notes one time
Ok, so it's four, but that's what I need to keep working on.
It seems that we haven't had a DtD thread in a while. What an awful state of affairs that needs to be immediately rectified with a pure injection of awesome into the veins.
To the uninitiated, Dungeons: The Dragoning 40,000 7th Edition is a homebrew mashup of many different RPGs that, in spite of traditional logic, works pretty damn good. It uses Roll & Keep, Sword Schools, Exaltations, Spelljammers, and more cuhrayzee content than you can shake a stick at. As such, it's the favorite of many.

What, the Bungie game?
Not that anyone cares about Khan or the Scars, but shouldn't Jaghatai logically be the next Primarch to return? There's literally no reason for him to still be missing after the Gathering Storm books.
>>53365313He's dead.
No but seriously, the reason he isn't back isn't back is because they don't think people care. Same reason they had Primaris marines be a thing instead of just saying they were updating all Space Marines to true-scale: they thought it would make less money.
Why do 40k players start threads like this instead of asking in /40kg/?
>>53365362
/tg/ is /40kg/
Any time there's a That Guy thread it seems like there's at least one forever GM that has an autistic meltdown over a player contributing to the world in some way, whether in their backstory or in a passing comment.
example:
>Player: I was born in a village that was attacked by orcs
>GM: NO VILLAGES HAVE BEEN ATTACKED BY ORCS REEEEEEEEEEE
Your job as GM isn't to craft the next big fantasy epic, your job is providing players with opportunities and stories in a fantasy world.
Stop being That DM.
>>53364081
You're right, but to a lesser extent, a player who forces this opinion on someone is no better.
>>53364081
That's a given OP.
A stubborn DM who refuses to let the players play around in their world or a player who goes to outlandish and refuses to back down
examples inurgashPlayer:i quote the philospher urgash to unspire the soldiers
DM: REEEEE
DM:Im sorry jim, but your character can't be a magical japanese fox girl from the future armed with an anti tank rifle this setting is set in the crusades
player:REEEEE

Just what the hell do Scum get up to all day? What's your [insert faction here] character do on an average day?
>>53360192
>What's your [insert faction here] character do on an average day?
I think this is the intent behind Your Whispering Muse, some.
>>53360440
Yeah? I wasn't honestly sure what that was.
>>53360652
The name is inspired by "Your Whispering Homunculus" which is a PF thing and it's basically full of oddball or unusual setting elements and how to make mundane aspects of the game more interesting.
So in EP the intent is similar, to give players and GMs more memorable aspects to normal life, or off-the-cuff ideas of the setting you might not think of right away. Obviously since it's gonna be a series it's not going to hit every type of group or locale all at once, though.
And IRL the intent is to try and fish for people who have never written for EP before to write for EP.
How do you deal with players who waifu your NPCs?
>>53356565
This is why all my games, all the npcs are men. My games are a complete sausage fest.
>>53356565
Have those NPCs die horribly and/or turn evil.
Or, if the player is a purityfag, inform them that the NPC has had sex before.
>>53356565
I allow it. Though my NPCs are rarely waifu material in the long run.

On behalf of that one lonely anon who asks for it every single thread: does anyone have Cursed Necropolis: Rio ?
So is this general now dead?
>>53350916
Granted, Mages should be at the top of the heap, but they shouldn't be unstoppable. Ignoring withstand should be reserved for Gnosis 8+
>>53350942
Vampires are the weakest individual splat by design, with the possible exceptions of Hunter and Deviant.
The strength of vampires in terms of fighting other splats is that there's typically more of them than any other splat, and it's extremely easy to get ghouls and even embrace new vampires relative to getting new kinfolk or sleepwalkers, let alone werewolves or mages.
>>53351011
I'm actually using a lot of ideas from princess in my efforts to make heroes into a full splat.
>>53351079
You'd think with Tremere being so powerful he could just murder vampires for blood and be a ghoul-mage.
>>53355976
Nah it's just a slow time and most people are used to having a link in the general for the new thread instead of just searching for "/wod" with their browsers
Anyone here ever play PTA/PTU?
Thoughts?
No, the system looks overly complex.
>>53350672
PTU is everything wrong with D&D game design, from the d20 to the useless classes, bloat, trap options, and hyperconvoluted game design. It's everything that's wrong with homebrews, because it tries to make d20 do what it shouldn't be anywhere near, has serious bloat issues, tries to emulate the games instead of being inspired by them, and the worst part of all of this is that PTU is a marked improvement over PTA.
Fuck PTU.
I've tried it once, but while it looks nice on paper, in practice the whole thing slows to a crawl the moment combat starts.

Corvus Belli put a batrep on their site.
First time I recall seeing one (besides a summary of an intercompany event)
Alright, so apparently my older cousin is into this shit. I've never played a wargame in my life, and he wants to "bond" over this. I told him I didn't want to because as far as I can tell wargames are expensive and time-consuming (I'm a poorfag, fuck off), but he says it's cheap and won't stop pestering me until I play a few legit games with him.
I'm up for it, but only if I can absolutely dominate him so he will leave me alone.
I know the rules are available online for free, but I just need help in knowing what to buy to get him to permanently fuck off. He's let me play with a few of fighters for just a mini tutorial game, and all of his units are apparently Nomads.
I understand the terms and concepts of the game, and I've been able to find that his army can abuse smoke and infiltration, and that most of units only have one wound, but I don't know how to take advantage of what his supposed strengths are. Can I get any tips on this?
Dropped out of this when it became apparently Haqqislam was just being replaced by the functionally much better Tohaa rules-wise. What's changed in the last year? I see the Asawira got a makeover.
