Never mind that, I'm more interested in knowing how you can get a third rook and the pawns in those positions?

Also, one of those rooks should be on the lighter squares.
>>

What do you mean only a human can solve this? The position's a draw. Maybe a computer would give a hefty advantage to black without understanding that even up all that material, they can't actually checkmate, but it's not a "solution".

>I'm more interested in knowing how you can get a third rook and the pawns in those positions?
There are only two rooks. And it would almost have to be a help position. I think someone composed one for this, actually, but I'd have to go digging through the archives for it.

Yes.

>is there any organization that doesn't answer to the inquisition?
I don't think so.
>>
>>53410871
In theory yes it does, the ordo Hereticus where founded with a goal to watch the Ecclesiarchy so their bullshit doesn't get out of control again.
As for organizations that don't answer to the inquisition, the Space Marine chapters are the only ones who I can imagine that are outside of Imperial Law.
Possibly the Mechanicus, but I think they have their own inquisitors for hereteks so I'm not sure if that counts or not.
>>
Pretty much everyone answers to the Inquisition, which also includes members of the Ecclesiarchy. Doesn't mean that any Inquisitorial nobody can just accuse any high ranking member of the Ecclesiarchy some bullshit and expect to get away with it easily, because y'know, politics and shit.

I haven't, but one of my players once grabbed a fleeing harpy while she was trying to flap away across a ravine. He got all excited about bearing her to the ground, and thought he had her caught - so he stabbed her in the wing joint and sent them both plummeting down into said ravine.

Didn't go well.

Been looking through the cr during my spare time at work. I found a piece somewhere in replacement effects that said something along the lines of "if an effect tries to increase the amount of damage done, but 0 damage is being done, it does not increase it."

So does this mean if I control pyromancer's gauntlet and my opponent controls that r/w angel that halves damage, if i gut shot their face, am i able to apply replacement effects so the angel makes it zero, then the gauntlet tries to increase it but cant?

Also holy shit word of command is wonky
>>
>>53407647
YOU won't be applying the replacement effects at all. THEY will. They're the affected player, since they're taking damage. They could either have Gauntlet add the +2, then have Sela halve that down to 1 (since it prevents 1.5 rounded up), or they can have Sela prevent half of 1 rounded up (down to 0) first. If they do that, Gut Shot is no longer attempting to deal damage to a permanent or player, so Gauntlet can't apply.

And yeah, Word of Command is fucky. It's a lot like Animate Dead- to explain it in "Player" is super easy: "I look at your hand, and make you cast it exactly as I tell you to.". It's just that the rules baggage to make it actually work is super verbose and weird.
>>
>>53407808
Cool, thanks. Thats actually much more useful than I thought. I thought that the controller of the effect applied replacement effects. The more you know.

AHAHAHA

After playing 5e for some time I've really gotten nostalgic for the powers of 4e. In 5e if you aren't a magic-user you don't have much mechanical utility, especially in battle, and after so many encounters of just running up and hitting stuff it's really started to get to me. I will admit lack of options has really made me more creative with what I do in battle, but there's only so much I can think of off the cuff.
Does anyone else miss the combat "powers" enough to wish for their return?
273 posts and 21 images submitted.
>>
>>53401987
I miss powers simply because the long-rest/short-rest of 5e is retarded as fuck and leads to classes like Warlocks and Battlemasters needing to rest for an hour after every combat encounter or be useless. In 4e most of their abilities would have just been encounter-powers.

Encounter powers are 100 times better of a thing to base game design around than the resource-attrition design of 5e and it's rest system. Especially when it comes to casters who will shit all over the game unless you've thrown 6 to 8 encounters at them already that day to burn out their spell slots.

Warlocks were balanced around short rests being 5 minutes long, then Mike Mearls went full retard and made short rests an hour long.

That's why single-classed warlocks suck at level 3+
>>
>>53403695
They're fine is you just say a short rest is the time it takes to get to the next encounter
Which is what my group does
I allows for players to do more cool shit instead of blowing their load and having to either sit back and do nothing or fuckoff for the rest of the day if you where a Caster or Full Attack every round if you where a Martial which is why I loved AEDU in the first place
It allowed far more options in combat that were viable and useful

Is anyone playing this? Anyone?

It's got a cool setting (all the superheroes and villains disappear, leaving their bases ripe for the plundering), it uses a modified version of Strange FATE so making powers is fairly easy, and there's tons of setting info to play with. Though you could just ignore the setting entirely and still have a damn good superhero system.
32 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Do all the heroes and villains just turn into air for some mysterious reason or does dressing up in costumes and masks just go out of fashion?
Either way the premise is interesting enough that I'll look into it.
>>
>>53401736
It's the result of a global Crisis-style event known in the setting as Ragnarok. The core book goes into great detail about the cultural and political ramifications of all the supers disappearing, if magical creatures, refugees from parallel doomed Earth's, and aliens get human rights (spoilers: they don't, and things really suck for non-human), and how base raiding is a federal offense, though the way anti-base raiding laws are enforced can be really inconsistent (there's a reason for this)
>>
>>53401060
It's an alright setting, even if I kind of disagree with the core conceit. I backed it because I liked the idea of Superhero Dungeon Crawling, frankly though I don't much care for its implementation of FATE's rules.

I guess you could say I'm divided on the book.

I'm writing some homebrews for it anyway, so I decided to make a thread to discuss Strike!.

Strike! is a generic d6 based system that focuses on (to quote the tagline) tactical combat and heedless adventure. It's modular, and uses widely adaptable mechanics, leaving the fluff up to the players (for better or worse).

The modules themselves can be easily lifted and applied to other games; if you like a PbtA game but wished it had more detailed combat, Strike!'s tactical combat module slots in rather nicely, for example.

Detailed pitch and expansion material in next posts.

Pdf related is the pitch from a Something Awful member. This way I can blame him for my failures.

Currently working on homebrew ideas:
- Class abilities using Swarm rules (Shapechanger, Summoner, Buddies)
- Some level 1 encounter power options for Martial Artist
- Rework for Archer
- Split roles up and expand them to have two distinct role options (i.e. Aura defender, temp HP leader, etc.)
- New feats (multiclass!)
- Unify some mechanics, possibly have at-will Role actions key off of a generic Role action

System fusion ideas:
-Savage Worlds
-5e/Legend

I'd start with casual, "beer and pretzels," games. Kobolds Ate My Baby and that. Maybe some of the simpler Cheapass Games. From there, ease into whatever you want. In my experience, mild intoxication does little to impair most people's ability to play most games and I've known a few folks it seems to actually help.
>>
Don't. You don't want to run RPGs with stoners. For your own sanity, OP.

I just started my first 5e game and D&D in general, I'm playing a gunslinger class right now, anyone play this yet? Super new to this and we just got done with character phase.

Any tips for a brand spanking new D&D player?
22 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
First, ask your DM how long he thinks a player's turn usually goes. If he says around six seconds, proceed. Otherwise, this won't help you.

Next, start looking for ways to get followers with you. You're a gunslinger, try performing some shootin shows and get some fans who wish to follow you around. You'll need them.

Also along the way, get a five foot pole. I'll explain in a bit...
