"Best Inquisitor award" Edition
For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.
Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.
>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
Because they were bought by Asmodee and that caused some sort of licensing conflict.
>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.
>Where did the Mandragora Apocrypha go?
The namefag working on it has fucked off to finish it in peace after our autists yelled at him over the unfinished version they found.

Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 977. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

How badly in debt were your parties?
>>53297542
>How badly in debt were your parties?
How badly in debt? I've had parties give up. Not give up playing, but give up trying to pay the mortgage. Of course that leads to skipping, hijacking, piracy, jumping over the border, and all sorts of fun stuff.
One group flew a couple of trading routes, ran the numbers, and decided to sell out! I'd been planning on giving them a job offer which bring in money & contacts, but they decided to sell out before I could. They pocketed their equity, became a crew aboard a subsidized merchant, used the money they had to start spec trading, and ended up running a small shipping line.
I never saw it coming.

So run intro adventure ( I have been thinking about a classic recover treasure from a hulk type mission ), focus on PCs, keep it small (subsector) and do not use too many sourcebooks. Check and thanks!
As for the setting: humankind has never been unified as as single gigantic empire, there is many kinds of small kingdoms and federations warring with each other.
The aliens (who are really weird - not rubber-headed humans!) however DID unify once to kick back a huge human crusade and they basically won yet did not bother to kill all of humankind. Being defeated in the crusade divided humankind even more of course.
The game will be set in a fringe close to this old human-alien border. Only that it is rather backwater even for humans (no big kingdoms) so it is a haven for mercenaries and all sorts of fun.
For hub I was considering a curiously unfinished Ancient ring world what surrounds a gas giant. It is tooo far away from proper civilizations for anyone to conquer it yet there is _many_ interested parties (and their bases) on it.
>>53299906
>For hub I was considering a curiously unfinished Ancient ring world
No. Unfinished or not, that's too much SUPER SCIENCE!!! for any civilization worthy of the name to ignore. Such a system would become a fleet magnet and the site of constant battles until one polity or alliance of polities managed to seize both it and all the systems you can reach it from. It's the ultimate tar baby & mcguffin, it's the very antithesis of "backwater".
Furthermore, a ringworld's surface area roughly the size of 3 MILLION Earths. That two orders of magnitude larger than the surface area on all the worlds in Traveller's Charted Space. A ringworld would swallow your campaign whole without a thought.
A Challenge article for Megatraveller stupidly put an unfinished ringworld in the Hinterworlds Sector roughly equidistant from the 3I, Hivers, and Solomani. Further insulting our intelligence, the article went on the claim that a very minor race, the Outcasts of the Whispering Sky, somehow keep everyone away from structure.
The writers of that article made a huge mistake which canon is still trying to "clean up". There's no real need for you to fuck up you setting in the same manner.

Villains fighting over who gets to kill the hero is the best trope
Why do some people put such little investment into their characters? I hear all the time about players putting dick all effort into traits or a backstory or anything like that so they're just playing a bunch of numbers on a page. What's even the point? Is it just people who like the idea of playing tabletop more than playing the game itself? Unless you're very new or playing a very high lethality game your character should at least have a paragraph or so about where they came from, what led them to the party and how they generally act.
Why are people like this /tg/?
>>53437583
People speak about the best and the bad.
Lukewarm and goodish characters and experiences aren't commented or talked about because no one would care.
>>53437619
I guess it's the same reason there are so many that guy threads and no this guy threads.
The only times I've seen players put so little investment into their characters were all games where the PCs kept getting killed. Which makes sense, getting invested only makes it worse when the PC gets killed. I'd do the same, which is why I avoid high lethality games.

Anon, he is the guardian spirit.
>>53436969
I've toyed with it, primarily through the Phantom Blade spiritualist.
Phantom Blade Spiritualist//Brutal Slayer Bushi? A STR/WIS, brutish Asian-style thug whose nagamaki is actually the spirit of his DEX/INT samurai grandfather who doesn't like his grandson's lack of elegance, the two arguing over how to go about doing something. The Grandson would hit shit hard, the Grandfather would suggest a more rational path.
Also had another one, a Witchwolf Skinwalker girl whose great-grandmother, the original matriarch of her clan, came back as a fearsome battleaxe in order to instill some family values in her descendants that had grown lazy and fat- especially the hedonistic youngest daughter of the current matriarch that was on a fast-track to nowhere.

First for farsight
The one true god
First for Kroot, destined to be the best army of 8th! We'll finally be a thing, right? Right?
>>53436740
We're either getting Kroot or Chaos Tau.
If Dwarf Fortress was an RPG what kind of of theme or setting would it have? Would it be grimdark, lighthearted, comical? What system would be best to represent it?
We already know that the top God, Armok, is basically Khorne, and all other deities are lesser gods. We already know that Armok destroys the world and remakes whenever it becomes stale and boring.
We don't know where people go when they die, we don't know if there's a heaven, but we do know that there are angels and demons, and both of them seem to be hostile to all life. We know that destroying temples causes the gods to curse the heretic with vampirism or lycanthropy (which is really more of a blessing in this setting) and that necromancers can learn to raise the dead from death gods.
We know that the world is extremely hostile, but it is possible for people to become extremely powerful, to the point where whether you win or lose a battle more or less depends on whether you have that one guy who can kill tens of thousands of people without getting so much as a scratch on him. We also know that there are "blessed" and "cursed" lands, where the "blessed" lands have high quality and generally friendlier creatures, whereas the cursed lands are hostile to most life and frequently the dead will rise in those lands.
Finally we know that Humans, Dwarves, and Elves all get along fairly well. The Humans live in walled cities and hamlets with mead halls, and practice slavery and torture (but only if its recreational torture). The Dwarves live in mountainhomes and hillocks (which are basically the Shire), and the elves grow their weapons and armor from the ground itself, abhor the cutting down of trees, practice cannibalism, are friends with the animals, are immortal, and are about as big as Dwarves.
So what kind of system would we run this on? And where would it fall on the noble-grim and bright-dark spectrum?
>>53436331
I think it would be a bit like Paranoia. Impossible by design and laughing about it, with crazy, inane adventures you're woefully unprepared for but might manage to trudge through, somehow.
>>53436331
I'd say you want to recreate the feel of Boatmurdered without it relying on the specifics of Boatmurdered. Animal invasions, societal collapse, mechanical mishaps, bizarre artwork, occasional giant monsters.
System wise, DF has always had a gritty combat system that tracks damage to individual body parts. DF with hit points would be shit-tactularly unDorfy. I think a complex damage system is 100% essential.
It should be a system where the players are the underdogs, like in Shadowrun, rather than the local Kings of the Hill like in most DnD campaigns. Honey badgers and carp can kill dwarves. The players should learn to be cautious.
>>53436683
>I think a complex damage system is 100% essential.
Absolutely, playing Adventure mode gives a feel of something just barely out of the reach of a tabletop due to some of the probability calculations. Just a slightly simplified version of the combat system already in the game would be great.
What are some things that, with enough magic and enough creativity, a fantasy setting could create in lieu of (or magical versions of) modern comforts and technologies?
I'm trying to think beyond low-fantasy settings for once, but it's hard to think of ways to make high fantasy feel different and not just 'the middle ages but a lot of magic in the background.' I want to bring things that are overtly magical into the average home, or something an adventurer might carry around.
>>53435180
Ready access to, use of, and education about prestidigitation permits societies to move to a uniformly health diet, permitting people to eat the most nutritous foods possible, without worrying about people complaining about the taste.
Well, bar issues with texture.
>>53435217
I feel like that would lead to the opposite. The worst quality foods would prevail once taste is no longer important
>>53437357
Historically, the "poor people food" was usually the healthier choice.
What are examples of a perfect BBEG?

You've posted the answer to your question.
>>53434689
For some unknown reason,YOU have been selected to represent humanity in the 3214th Intergalactic Deathmatch. You have the right to bring with you one non-weapon possession, and have to choose one song to be your theme/mankind's hymn for now until forever.
What are they, and how fucked are you, assuming Humans are the heavy worlders in this setting?
>>53434377
Well, I am untrained in melee combat and have probably about average to somewhat less than average strength. I'm not chubby though, and I can shoot decently, so it really depends on the weapons and enemies I'll be facing.
As for music, Separate Ways by Journey. I just love that song so much.

I have a number of questions:
1.) What are the rules of the death-match; i.e. is it unarmed combat? Are weapons provided? Are they ranged weapons? Is it a series of one-on-one combats or a big free-for-all? And so-on.
2.) Are we also assuming 'muh pursuit-predator genetics' giving humans super-stamina (probably) by alien standards?
3.) What about the endoskeleton? There is some evidence to suggest that it might be a fairly uncommon evolutionary development.
4.) Are all the other participants also randomly selected citizens from the other races involved?
Not that it really matters much in my case as I'm grossly out of shape and horribly squeamish about violence (at least, when it directly involves me) so I'd almost certainly be one of the first to die, heavy-worlder or no.
My item is irrelevant, since I can't imagine anything that could possibly help me not die, but as for the music... I guess maybe Handel's Zadok the Priest? I love the classics.

Some people are just cunts, anon. There's a huge amount of them in tabletop, because being autistic is necessary to play.
Just finished this book. I'm no Iron Hands fan normally, but hot damn it was good. They attain almost Marines Malevolent-levels of cynism and brutality, but it was actually quite refreshing after reading the 2 Calgar's in less than a week.
The narration is a tad hard to follow at first, and the ending leaves a lot to be told (potential sequel) but an absolute joy fluffwise. Definitely a must read for IH fans that want to know more about how the recruit, their way of living and how bloody brutal they generally are.
Definitely recommend.
Are they fighting mechanicum? Why?
Are the poor Admech just completely shat on as usual as they beat their fists against Marine armour instead of using the plasma SMG that's right there as the IH effortlessly punch Dunecrawlers and Domini to death, or do they get a decent showing?
>>53429325
Don't want to spoil too much but it's a Mechanicus world turned renegade, near Medusa, basically a world belonging to the Boys in Bionics in all but name, so when said world decides to stray from the Imperium they aren't too happy about it.
>>53429536
There is a lot of emphasis on how resistant IHare thabks to their bionics (and I find the model range and even 3rd parties cruely lacking in the bionics department to represent the wode array of modifications talked about) but IH get a fair amout of beating too.
The way they fight was completely new to me though, I think it was the 1st time they were illustrated like this. Basically IH are all connected, kinda like the Mechanicus noosphere. Obviouzly lowly battle brothers are jut connected between their squads or Clades, but the higher you ho with authorisation, the more you hear, the more you see, you can even see through a brother's eyes and stuff.
I really liked how the author gave them a much more robotic, cold and calculating look on combat. There's no grand speech, no warcries, to the point where an order goven orally and not via their link is considered weird and deviant.
Hey /tg/, let's get a modern character art thread going. Not cyberpunk, but fantasy, but an interesting looking person you might see in your every day life.
Personally I'm looking for something that might fit villains or trainers in a Pokemon game, but let's get whatever we've got out there.
>>53426896
>>53426951
Thoughts on pic related? Saw these chunky fuckers in a 5e expansion at my previous game, liked what I saw and am now thinking of making one my next character.
>>53417439
They're perfectly fine as a player character race. The trick is having a reason for them to be adventuring.
One of the players in my campaign is playing a Firbolg. His explanation for why he is adventuring is that he is on the Firbolg equivalent of rumspringa.
i don't really see the point of them from an objective standpoint, they just seem to be wood elves: troll edition
not to mention that they seem to be the least likely race that players can access to actually be adventurers... the only thing they got going for them in my opinion is that they seem to make a nice fit for the "gentle giant" type character
>>53417439
They're not broken or overpowered, per say, but goddamn are they superfluous snowflake shit... although that describes most non-PHB races and the people that feel the need to play them.
