What really bugs me in your example is the idea that playing a thief or a spellcaster somehow doesn't put said female character on the frontline.

Even if that female character is a thief or a spellcaster, SHE'S STILL ABOUT THREE TO FOUR SWORD LENGTHS AWAY FROM THE FRONTLINE!

It's a fucking dungeoncrawl group, not a fucking company of soldiers? The frontline is FUCKING EVERYWHERE! Playing a wizard or a rogue doesn't magically place you kilometers away from the frontline! Having a warrior doesn't magically stop your opponents from manoeuvring around, changing the location of the fronline!

I think the issue is less about women not fighting and more about women in heavy armor swinging huge weapons around.

Unless you actually split the game into separate sessions (or the people who aren't currently playing have something else to do), it's always going to be a case of half the people sitting around twiddling their thumbs. There are things you can do to make this better or worse, but ultimately everybody is involved in the game only about half as much, so at best you're looking at damage control.

Doing something akin to this is the best option IMO. It lets the other players have fun while waiting for their turn, effectively eliminating the boredom that sours the session - and may also potentially add an element of secrecy between the individual members: perhaps there are things that happen during the split that A and B would rather keep from the others..?

It would be incredibly inefficient. Child soldiers are just that, children. They're famous for being extremely unreliable and poor soldiers in general. They are, in general, incapable of anything beyond static site security or disposable bodies for an attack.

The primary function of child soldiers is to indoctrinate and slave them into a warlords regime , if they survive into adulthood (most don't), they're dyed in the wool killers with no skill set beyond violence. As adults they're still famously bad soldiers.

It would be a better use of resources to induct the children into regimented training so by the time they're young adults they're effective fighters. Like Cadians or Catachans.

I prefer the highest of fantasies personally, but that is just me.

trying to boil it down to individual aspects doesnt work well. for instance, if you had nigh-superheroes running around in literally medieval earth, most would call that low fantasy.

the distinction is poorly defined and easy for people to argue over what some settings are

probably the best way to gauge whether its high or low is how much the common man knows about or is exposed to the fantastical elements. if the answer is never or very little, its probably low

Shit poll, no option for "Yes, but...". All in all I like Mata-Yadh, but there are some problems with the writeup. The problems are easy to fix, though, by just removing a Charm or two, so it's still a very useful antagonist that can easily be used in games. It can really fuck up a party if a well-meaning but inexperienced ST just uses it as is, assuming that official material can be used without adjustment, so just saying that I like it wouldn't be telling the whole truth.

I could use some inspirational music for DB's. What have you guys got?
