Wild Talents/Mutants and Masterminds.

Superhero systems are pretty good for that kind of thing.

In all seriousness, yeah wild talents.

my last party in that system had an angry trashcan and a kitten with pyrotechnics, and they were just as valid as the weird kid batman guy
>>
>>53504862
please note this was not a serious game. don't take this as an example of the average wild talents game

What's the better chess opener? d4 or e4?

d4 is shit so maybe you can throw the opponent really off guard with it?

I prefer d4 just because it prevents the asshole on the other side of the board from using the Sicilian Defense.

statistically it is d4 since the sicilian is so good against e4

Here's a little bit about the organizations you can join in Starfinder will work. Doing stuff for them gets you some actual benefits.

What does /tg/ think of Ars Magica ?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>53501714
Is it true that you play as a shitload of guys at the same time or I am being confused by another game with a similar name?
>>
>>53501714
It's really hard to predict in advance what you need to cast a spell, which makes character creation difficult. There's a lot of grey areas between different magic schools and you pretty much have to hash out with your GM where one stops and another starts, and if they have overlap, and how much, and etc. etc. So, that's a hassle. I don't know how you'd fix it without just providing a list of spells like D&D, which wouldn't really fit the tone of the game at all, but whether or not I have any idea how to solve it, it is still a problem.

I'm also not a fan of dumping this much magic into an otherwise historical setting, but that's personal taste.

Last I checked it never really outgrew the whole 80s design style where everything is kind of a hacked together mess and no effort has been made to streamline systems at all.

Concept is cool enough to make it worth checking out in spite of its issues, though.
>>
>>53501911
Sure, but that magic is bound by a proto-WoD masquerade. If House Guernicus finds out you've been charming the locals for tail or shaking down a local church for its vis, you are hosed.

>>53501825
Ars is one of the earliest "troupe" games, yes. Each player will have a Mage, a Companion or two, and a gaggle of Grogs available, and MAY direct any or all of them over the course of a session, but will rarely be worrying about more than one or two at any given moment. If the current situation is your time to Grog, knowing you have a bunch of redshirts and high-function morons to handle makes it simpler.

Unless you run an all-Grog session for variety. That shit's hilarious.

The year is march 1945. Hitler successfully creates 100 astartes, power armour and standard m40k marine weapons, how can he win the war?

>Do you like playing with miniatures?
No.

> How does it contribute to the game?
They are great in systems that require exact distances/facing/spacial records. Typically for more combat focused games, "Damage done in an X by Y square."

>Where do you get them?
Not sure. I've used Lego!

>And why are they so expensive?
Because you'll pay for it.
>>
>>53500658
>Do you like playing with miniatures?
I like them, yeah. I think games can be perfectly fun without them, but it's nice to have a well-made little statue of your character.

>How does it contribute to the game?
When asked "What does he look like" I can just hold up the miniature and say "this". It adds a more personal connection to the character, and incentive to keep them alive.

>Where do you get them?
I convert mine from my warhammer collection.

>And why are they so expensive?
Because Citadel are run by the joos.

Been using pathfinder pawns for my game. They don't look as good as real minis but it does the job good enough for me and my players. I like having a bunch of different monsters and npcs ready to go and easy to pack around.

Would the Tau Empire permit client species in its auxiliary forces to pilot any variant of battlesuit?

No, I'm not asking about gue'vesa, I'm not a faggot. It just looks like kroot are getting buffed up in 8th edition and I'm wondering if I could provide them with some fire support.

Problem solved.
>>
Couldn't you cover it with a black tarp or something, only revealing a bit at a time?
>>
What I do is attach bucky balls to the edges of the tiles, and snap the sections on overtime as the players explore it. So if they open a door I simply pull the room that they would see out from under the table and attach it.

At least, that is what I would do if I didn't force my players to map everything themselves. It is more enjoyable that way, even if it doesn't look as cool.

Well, I hope you fucks are happy. They gutted the tau codex. Markerlights are useless, special issue wargear (read, everything interesting and fun in the codex) is gone, crisis suits are 40ppm before upgrades.
I understand trying to nerf the riptide spammers and shit like the wall of mirrors, but I spent days converting up a fusion blades commander because melee tau is the most fun way to play them. But now no more suicide commanders, no more crisis suit brawlers, pathfinders are so useless now they're down to boyz points. Why do we all have to suffer with the WAACfags?

I mean, woo drones are good now. I guess I'm going back to orks, they look decent this edition.

>Markers are useless
No? They do more and aren't spent upon firing. If you fire 5 markerlights at a unit, any model firing at that unit gets all of the benefits (reroll 1 to hit, +1 to hit, ignore cover, advance and fire assault weapons with no penalty).

>special issue wargear
They are still around, see pic

>crisis suits are 40ppm before upgrades
They also got +1 wound, and can now fire all 3 weapons each turn, all at different targets.

The loss of fusion blades will be sad, but Farsight now hits on a 2+.

All the changes seem good to me. Riptide are insane now (T8 14 wounds 2+ save), but they are actually priced appropriately ~300ppm and the changes to drones are going to be amazing.

Hear ye, hear ye. I hereby call to order this meeting of the most illustrious Mages Guild! It has come to my attention that the Guild has exceeded its quota of priceless artifacts, having overflowed the Forbidden Archives, the Deep Archives, and now threaten to drown the regular archives that we just had rebuilt and repainted last month! To wit I posit the following: Is it better to arm our mages with some of these expendable artifacts to lighten the burden on our stores? Or should we disperse them across our land as venerated pieces of history? If nothing else we may finally be able to deal with this blasted Druid problem...

We need answers, people! And Bryan, no, you're still not allowed to touch the button. We've gone over this.

Welcome to the Mages' Guild. Pick a name and join in! Conflicts are resolved with d20s when needed, or with playing it out. When the thread dies on /tg/, we keep it going on archived.moe. For additional resources, please visit http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Mage%27s_guild or http://collabedit.com/6fvae

God-tier aesthetics thread. Post any visual design that gets everything right.

The portal set was a masterpiece of design. The bold, inky lettering was comfy and gave each spell a weighty significance. The power and toughness symbols looked like something you might might find in a renaissance fencing treatise. The flavor text always gave the sense that there existed a vast and complex world way beyond the borders of the cards. The pre-photoshop art was charming at its worst and the color printing was deeper and richer than previous sets. Together all these elements gave each card an awesome arcane, medieval feel. My old weathered portal cards look like pages torn out of a spellbook.

Describe your PC's fighting style.

Is it realistic? Is it flashy or exotic? What weapons do they use? Where did they learn to fight that way? Why do they prefer to fight that way? Are they any good at it? What is it useful for? Does that fighting style have history?

Pretty much all the PCs in my current use the universal fighting style of 'Hit it with a sharp object until it dies whilst also trying not to get stabbed'. None of them really have more training than that.
