Just look at the mess the last thread is, constantly updating a 1 gig torrent and creating hashes for a single file addition. People leave the thread and it's not updated, they seed an old release.

Is it another piece of software? Yeah, but it's really nescessary to keeo down on churn and loss of old seeders. It's still a torrent, just a bit different. I remember all the fags who bitched about magnets back in the day.

Now everyone here uses magnets. If you're charing a fixed target, like a past season of a show, then yes torrents are appropriate. However since shit keeps getting added, the management of whos magnet does what is a nightmare, and it's a waste of traffic and time.

this way everyone can sit back and let it run and they get updated automatically, or turn it on once a week and pull 15 megs at a time.

Bittorrent Sync uses the same protocol as bittorrent. It is similar to services like Dropbox, but decentralized and encrypted. The purpose of a sync folder is so you don't have to chase down any updates/new magnet links. If you don't like it/want to try it out, by all means chase down the newest magnet in the other thread.

In the Go download page, I see 2 different archives .tar.gz : one is go1.4.src.tar.gz and in the page says "source" and the other one is go1.4.linux-386.tar.gz (or go1.4.linux-amd64.tar.gz) and is tagged as "linux".

I thought Linux distributions used the source code directly to compile the program and install it. Why, then, are there two different archives in the Go page? Are you having troubles with both of them? Isn't that the same package as the one posted in the git repos?

However, the main problem is one of maturity, Go is a very recent development, whereas Python is a standard language that has out-of-the-box support in every operating system out there (except for Windows). Go just isn't there yet, and compiling Go programs still takes some effort to set up.

And personally, while I think it has some good ideas, overall I don't think it brings anything to the table that wasn't there before, like every language it has strengths and weaknesses.
