Did this just start running in Japan on June 22, 2013. When did the blueray come out.

When I saw the recent FMA movie at an Asian Film Festival, they played it off a Blu-Ray disk. This was way before the Blu-Ray was actually released.

Ghost Pain has been licensed for international screening. So I guess someone working at a theater managed to copy the disk.

Could some one help me with the chronology of the releases?
I have 2 seasons of 26 episodes each called sac and sac 2nd gig...
I have 3 movies... inocence, ghost in the shell 1995 and stand alone complex solid state society.

I gotta say that enjoyed it, i'm a huge fan of GITS and watched everything... it's not SAC but it's something else.. and the animation is different which makes me wonder about the changes between this and the SAC series, maybe they changed leading animators or something, but they definitely altered the production from the SAC, we'll have to wait and watch, cos i remember the first few episodes of the 2nd gig or sac had a different vibe in them.

GITS SAC takes place in a parallel universe. from what i've seen in GITS ARISE it also takes place in a parallel universe because the childhood history of motoko in arise and SAC and different and cantch match, unless i've missed something, but it also doesn't make sense since ishikawa and motoko met batou in mexico during the sniper episode in SAC and here in arise batou is known beforehand.

Arise is not worth it yet because the frist episode has nothing philosophical yet. It's more of a backstory to Major's early training.

While sac 1 may not have been as strong as 2nd gig or the 95 movie, it certainly wasn't shit. The writing was god tier compared to the average anime, a lot of which play like the writers used tvtropes as a fucking instruction manual.

Was pretty damn cool, but the premier of the first Patlabor movie was a much better experience at the same venue... Never did watch any of the stuff after the first movie, first manga series was fun though.

I agree, this is the order I went in and I'm happy with it as it seems to make the most sense. 95 movie is different from the others but it was the one that introduces the concept of a "ghost in the shell" the best I think. Motoko in the 95 movie isn't nearly as cute or hot as in SAC though, if that matters to you in watching it.

Thanks for the torrent, I was really disappointed by the film though.

I know it doesn't get the same sort of funding as a full-on movie, but it just seemed sort of plastic and uninspired to me. GITS has such a great ensemble of characters and this didn't do any of them justice. It seemed explanatory and conceptual.

I recommend reading the manga first, less serious but same awesomeness.

with different history events, this coming from what I've read and found out so far, then, further into the Borders, the story will become a re-telling of the original Ghost, with different yet quite similar synonymous incidents.

just read the manga. all the anime are adaptations of parts of various chapters of the manga, mixed around a bit. SAC obviously added a lot to what it pulled from the manga, and I can't see how it could fit into 95 and Innocence, so just rtfm, and go from there is my advice.

Now with these prequels, in which order should one start watching GITS? Luckily i started with the 95 movie which appears to be the only one with a good explanation of what's going on. But that story doesn't seem to fit in the series. If i were to introduce the series to someone, were should the starting point be now?

Yes there will be variations in all of our opinions... we each would have a different preference for style, intellectual stimulation, animation, direction... etc.

1995 movie, I was way young when I saw that movie and I had little understanding of what was going on, I must say I understood AKIRA better than this movie back then, too complicated for a little boy to understand. I re-watched it recently and enjoyed it.

Innocence - Yes god yes, that was awesome.

For me SAC did its part of capturing my attention. I loved this series... no I was in love with this series. The intellectual / philosophical debate was that made me fall in love with this series. It wasn't the usual anime of fanservice and tee hee nonsense (just my point of view, I know some of you might like that, don't mind me, just expressing myself).

SAC2 - I liked it, but it wasn't as intellectual as the first one. It was more action and a straight forward storyline, yet very enjoyable, I loved it.

SSS - similar to SAC2 - felt good

ARISE - ..... meh, I prefered the strong and stoic Kusanagi from the 95 movie SAC ASC2 SSS Innocence. This one did not do the same justice to the character as the predecessors did. However I hear that the series is closer to the manga adaptation as originally imagined by Shirow.

Having not yet watched Arise yet your post worries me, I guess it's good that they changed her appearance because if I end up not liking her character's personality as much as I love her in SAC than it's easier to ignore as just a different alternate setting really.

It's just, I wished so terribly for a SAC 3rd Gig, and when ARISE was announced I was ecstatic, but now I realize my hype was for naught. I'll still watch it though because I love GiTS so fucking much as it's my favorite anime of all time, but I probably won't enjoy it as much as SAC. But I may enjoy it as a cyberpunk anime on it's own merits hopefully.

Hey speaking of that good episode, is there anyone that can tell me what the hovering text was in front of everyone in the chat? I'm assuming that they may be user inputs like a chat where people not on the floor can comment on what the person speaking is saying, which may be why the Major looks so disgusted in this bit because they're probably saying something equivalent to "tits or gtfo" for all I know.

Thing is I can't know because I don't know a slick of Japanese and these chat room posts if they are that haven't been translated, although my download of GiTS SAC does have translated titles - that's only for close ups that are plot central I suppose. Still it's a shame that all of the Japanese text in SAC 1 and 2 haven't had translations, I noticed that the director apparently loves to explain a bunch of things merely from the text you see on your screen, and when it's untranslated like the majority of it is, you feel like you're missing out on parts of the world, it's not a major thing, but it would have been nice to know what's being shown, said or hinted on in the background when it's shown only in its original hiragana/katakana.
