Why doesn't Alaska have an NFL or NHL team? That's racist.

No one lives there.
Half of the population would die trying to storm the eternal blizzard just to get to the stadium.
The rest would die at the stadium from frostbite.

Alaska should be gave back to Russia

they deserve a Hockey team, one of the California/Florida teams should be there.

I've gone to several Anchorage Alaska @ Colorado College NCAA games and they seem to have a decent following for being Alaska. They couldn't be any worse fans than Cali/Florida/Arizona desu

>>65419777
why, so they can waste its potential like every other piece of land they own? China will turn Siberia into huge profits as soon as they annex it.

Alaskan here, people are just content with bandwagoning the fuck out of other places and teams.

I don't get this "muh population" thing, there are VILLAGES in england that played top flight divegrass
>>
>>65420555
Alaska's too remote, you have to fly out to get anywhere else to play. Costs way too much for travel. Same reason Hawaii doesn't really have any teams.
>>
>>65420555
>>65420597
But if they were gifted an nfl team it would work with the whole redistribution of revenue they have going
>>

>>
>>65420555
Except you're forgetting how much bigger the US is vs the UK, and how long those countries within the UK have been around. If you compare just England to Alaska, then you realize that you can fit 13 Englands into Alaska and still have room left over. That plus there are over 50 million people just in England vs 700k in Alaska.
>>
>>65420597
How far away could a place be that pro clubs couldn't afford chartering? There are teams in Siberia that play with teams in Moscow, and if that Siberian team gets a European spot, they have to travel there too.

The "too far" thing seems bullshit, considering Russia don't seem to be having problems
>>
Alaska is very much still a frontier, USA is saving it for when shit goes south

Their biggest city has 300,000 people. That is minor league size and they play in an AA league with Boise and Loveland Colorado. Even Bakersfield and Stockton and Ontario were too relevant for the ECHL.
>>
>>65421147
Maybe not too far for an NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB team, but smaller sports and small college sports don't have the budget for that, and there's a long list of cities that will get a major league team before Anchorage does.

>>65421188
Calling bullshit on that too, this is the Russian SECOND DIVISION League, a league that has less attendance than most minor league baseball teams, and yet they can manage system where you literally travel from a place that borders Poland to a place that borders North Korea.

Can a someone explain me how is this possible? Is the Russian FA heavily subsidizing flights?

>>
>>65421147
>>65421493
Maybe if the US/Alaska only had one sport like most of Russia, there's be enough demand for more teams there, but it's all split up evenly between everything, it's not like everyone is a huge hockey fan. Basketball's actually bigger the more rural you go, everyone plays/watches because there's not much else to do.
>>
>>65419872

Alaska is very comfy. Comfy people too.
>>
>>65421493
>Is the Russian FA heavily subsidizing flights?

probably

here in Portugal we a lot of teams from Madeira, which is closer to Morocco than it is to Portugal competing in the continental divisions and they're heavily subsidized by the regional government

I imagine the flights alone (~30 tickets every other week) would be enough to bankrupt these teams, especially the ones in the lower leagues

The panhandle and Anchorage are habitable thanks to the pacific keeping shit warm in the winter. Everything else is a godawful nightmare. I don't understand how Fairbanks can be populated by humans.
>>
>>65420555
It's the remoteness and the population. People in London will drive three hours to Manchester to see United play. There's nobody in Alaska, and there's nobody in any neighboring areas to come see any teams play either.

I live near Detroit, which has seen it's population decline from 2 million to 800,000 in 50 years. It's still more populated than all of Alaska, and it's sports teams still get most of their attendees from people living in the suburbs.

With an unprecedented audience that only seems to keep growing–last year’s Super Bowl average of 114.4 million viewers was the most watched broadcast in US history, breaking the record set at…the previous Super Bowl–broadcasters are able to keep hiking up the price for air space.

According to CBS president Leslie Moonves, via Forbes, a 30-second spot during this year’s Super Bowl will cost marketers a whopping $5 million. That’s up from $4.5 million a year ago, and it’s a 66.6 percent increase from what the price was just five years ago.

The Broncos are 0-4 all-time wearing their orange jerseys in the Super Bowl. They'll wear their white threads against the Panthers in Super Bowl 50. The Panthers will wear their black uniforms. They wore white when they lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004.

In fact, 10 of the last 11 Super Bowl winners were wearing white uniforms.

The game between the New York Jets and the Baltimore Colts in 1969 was the first time the league used Roman numerals and the official “Super Bowl” name. The Jets went on to beat the Colts 16-7 and Joe Namath continued on a path that would eventually lead him to the Hall of Fame.
