If they manage to win the league, will it be the greatest achievement of all sporting history?
>>
Hate to crush your hopes but they won't win.
Sorry if just revealed a spoiler.

Greek won Euro 2004 was more surprising.
The odd was 1:2000.
Leicester's starting odd was 1:200
>>
>>65408567
Leicester were 5000/1 to win at the beginning of the season.
>>
>>65408546
Hate to crush your wishful thinking, but Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have 0 (zerio) chance. Only Manchester City have an outside chance.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned.
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Don't be daft. Greece only had to hold out for 6 games. For Leicester to win the league over 38 games in the era of the oil money clubs will be easily the greatest achievement of the modern era, hands down. Before this it was Atletico beating Real and Barca to the title when those clubs had a monopoly on all the worlds best talent, but even they had a handful of world class players and one of the best managers in football. Leicester are doing it with pretty much the same team they had in the Championship a few years ago.

but anyone can win a one-off game on their day, if Japan were consistently better than South Africa over a 38 game period then it would be comparable.

Tyson v Douglas was a bigger one-off shock
>>
>>65408488
No
The greatest achievement ever will forever be Roma getting to the European Cup Final in 1984
>>
>>65408488

The Treble is better as it was the culmination of several years work. Leicester winning the league is the equivalent of United winning it in 93, which was the start of the build toward the Treble.

>Leicester winning the league is the equivalent of United winning it in 9
The Premier League is far more hierarchical and competitive now than in 1993; Newcastle, Norwich , Blackburn and Nottingham Forest were all able to challenge for the Premiership title in their first season back in the top flight in the early 90s now it's a miracle if a newly promoted team can finish in the top half
>>
They are going to collapse once they are really close

Right now they don't believe it, so they play without worries

Once it feels real they will absolutely collapse
>>
>>65411311
If holding out for 6 games is such an easy task in comparison, why has no England team ever managed to to that, despite fielding players who repeatedly won leagues over 38 games?
>>
>>65419655
With 6/7 games remaining is when the collapse will happen

You're just proving his point. The "favorites" have it harder in a cup format.

It's a statistical concept. An entire season's results tell you about a team's "average" performance over many trials. So eventually the better teams rise to the top.

In a cup, 1 single loss puts you out. There is much more variability in the performance in a single match than over 38.

If you roll a die 100 times, the average will almost definitely be between 3 and 4. But if you roll it just once, it could be anything 1-6.
>>
>>65420732
If the favourites have it harder in cup formats then why is there a consistent global elite (Italy, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Argentina)?
>>
>>65408639
Yeah, the team with the most injuries, hardest fixture list and most recently got BTFO hardest are the most likely winners.

They are still favorites, just less so than they would be in a league.

Look, England's choking really doesn't have anything to do with what he was saying anyway. I think you know he was right.

Notts Forest won the First Division in their first season up back in the 70s and then won 2 European Cups in a row. You could argue the wealth disparity wasn't quite what it is now though and it's certainly the best achievement of the 21st Century regardless.

Except things like that have happened before, Denmark winning the Euros was equally a big surprise.

Arse vs Vardy and Citeh vs Sperms next week.

Who /excite/ here!?

Arse 1 - 1 Vardy
Citeh 1 - 2 Sperms

yeah it's a great achievement, but it's mostly down to the fact that the traditional powers are garbage right now

To be fair Norwich also almost did something very similar at the same kind of time. 20 years ago there was a lot more parity than there is now.

The Leicester achievement is a step above.
>>
>>65421218
Stuttgart winning it back in 2007 was a bigger surprise than Wolfsburg in 2009
