I've decided that I want to get into hockey as I've decided that I need a bit more variety in the sport that I watch. The problem I'm having is deciding what team to support do any of you guys have any advise. I've always preferred routing for an underdog rather than one of the established "big clubs". Anyone fancy giving me some advice?
Follow a player. Bandwagoners with no allegiance following good players is fairly common and you can stick with the team even after they retire or the team becomes shit.
I still watch the Lakers even though they are straight trash now because of Kobe and watching him in the playoffs in the mid 2000's; and I kind of follow the Kings since they used to play in my city.
Don't get too caught up in them being underdogs because you will end up suffering unnecessarily (ie Maple Leaves, Brown's) save that for people who live there
Islanders. Decent team, isn't a meme canadian team, isn't really part of the meme 60% of the league that's just fucking garbage right now. Lives in the shadows if the >rags, has good players and all around comfy.
Stars are the most exciting team and most people don't give them much of a chance (since offensively oriented teams tend to flame out in the playoffs) so you won't be a bandwagoner too much.
Share in our struggle as we watch Hank "How Can He Be King With No Ring" Lundqvist be inconsolable.
Like anyone wants to be a fan of a Canadian hockey team
>wanting him to be doomed to seeing his team never win a cup
BANDWAGONERS GET OUT
Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses
Europeans and Brits love the Red Wings. Just saying.
You want an underdog and not a big club? Sharks. They haven't won a stanley cup yet and they are a fairly new team. That or just pick a team closest to you. That way you can actually get their games if you have a cable subscription.
And yet the Laffs are still worthy more kiddo.
Minnesota Wild. Relatively new team, smaller market, dedicated fanbase, no cups yet but they are a perennial contender and have given teams trouble in the playoffs. You could become a fan before you'd be considered a bandwagoner.
I know the feel bro.
From Wisconsin, one of the most important Hockey states in the country yet we don't have a fucking NHL team and there is no way I'm going to cheer for Wild, Blackcocks, or Gay
wings. So I went with the route someone brought up, I followed my favorite player (Alexander Ovechkin) and he plays for the Capitals. Haven't looked back since. Fun team to watch, lots of heart, good players, good fans.
I think a team on the east in a city worth visiting so its cheaper for me to go watch them live if I want to and I can do other touristy stuff. Also a good logo and colours would be nice.
Team Finland is god tier for fans.
Sympathetic underdog tiny country yet it has a realistic chance of beating anyone and even winning championships.
As far as NHL goes Florida is probably a pretty good pick for a "non established club" this season. I personally like Wild because minnesota hockey country but the franchise hasn't really achieved anything.
Rangers has the best uniforms and it's NYC no need to say more. Blackhawks has a nice logo and is always a good team but the city is shit.
Both are original 6 so can't go wrong with either but they're the definition of "established team".
Boston is also original 6 and a nice city.
>I've always preferred routing for an underdog rather than one of the established "big clubs".
Why not both? Pick Maple Leafs, they are chronically underperforming big club based on big market and huge fanbase. They still can't get shit done.
>after going up the Sears tower and eating some deep dish pizza there is literally nothing to see
lol, maybe if you're a dumb tourist who doesn't speak english
wrigley, lincoln park zoo, navy pier, the shedd, field museum, mag mile, thousands of awesome bars and restaurants and beer gardens and great breweries, etc. etc.
Chicago is amazing if you speak english and have friends and aren't an autistic asian looking mongoloid.
I got a mate who watches a lot of Hockey and tells me that ">my team" based who I am should be the Washington Caps. I like hockey I think it's fast paced and entertaining as fuck but I dunno if he's trolling me. He's a Montreal Canadians fan if that has any bearing.
ovechkin is a two pump chump
i literally have a whore friend who had a threesome with him and semin
ovechkin popped in like thirty seconds, semin has a 3 inch pencil dick
she's a caps fan so she would have no reason to lie
>also fuck ovechkin
>Huge fan of History
>American Civil War is my favorite point in history
>Live in Boston
>love the Bruins
>root for Columbus when I'm not watching the Broons
If I didn't live in Boston, I'd probably follow Columbus
Well our bandwagon has begun, hop on. We are the ones that do the memeing now. Get on with the winning team.
>ovie is the best player of the past 10 years
fucking lol, are you sure you're not forgetting a certain fellow canadian here?
I've leaned towards phoenix by just watching a bunch of games to get into it. Heard they might move soon though, any truth to this? Because I was probably going to move to Arizona once i finish up pharmacy school in a couple of years
Go for the Canadiens. It's Canada's most eastern team and going to a game in Canada during the playoffs is the best live experience you could possibly have with hockey. Montrealers are fucking rabid fans too if that's appealing to you. The club also has the richest history in the sport.
The Boston Bruins are one of the original NHL teams and the first in the US. The city itself is pretty fun and it also has a ton of history by American standards
Ever been to a local game mate?
Try it, the quality's not great but it is comfy as fuck.
>tfw the Stingrays died and the Pirates have won about 4 games all season
It's extremely fucking obvious you've never been to Chicago, stop listening to other morons, who listen to other fags who listen to other morons that think the entire city is black.
Also, Go Blackhawks!
Sorry about your luck
>no way I'm going to cheer for Wild, Blackcocks, or Gay
That's good. These franchises honestly wouldn't want any backwoods make a murderer cheese fuckers sullying their brand. It's no mistake that your obese state of mouth breathers doesn't have a hockey team. Pic related is a 10 in Wisconsin.
You want in on the Winnipeg Jets my friend. Relatively new club, underdog, but with chances of making the playoffs and making it big at the same time.
Not French or Amerifat.
they are literally the best choice.
they also play with a shitton of enthusiasm.
> Good, but not successful enough for people to accuse you of bandwagoning
> Focus on speed and finesse
> Marleau and Burns are lovable dorks and athletes
> Plays in Silicon Valley, so no need to go to the tundra for matches
