Raiders and Chargers to LA makes the most sense as a Southern Californian to me.

Lakers and Clippers have a good rivalry already, "home" games are fucking crazy
>>
Highyl doubt all 3 come to LA but realistically 1, 2 if lucky.

What will the owners vote on? if its based on revenue and stadium earnings my guess its the Raiders. Rams have some leverage because the owner has some property in LA. The Chargers are just trying to pony up for a new stadium.

LA should get the Rams back and STFU. The Chargers belong in San Diego. The Rams belong in LA, and nobody cares where the Raiders go.

First, the NFL is nearly 100 years old and the oldest franchise is about 125 years old.

Second, sports are a business, the people who own teams don't care about you and they want money.

You either deal with it or go cry about it.

I'm guessing rams and another cali team. It would kill the revenue if you have two teams in the same conference and in the same goddamn division to share a stadium. Then again, it sucks if the Rams move because there's hardly any teams in that region of the country. Raiders Chargers would only work if they build a fucking huge stadium 110k+ to make up for the lack of 2 home games, and with the blackout rule a thing of a past it could work.

LA never lost a team because of attendance

Both Rams and raiders were lost due to retarded ownership
Chargers were literally a prototype that San Diego bought the rights to host their games

Raiders and Rams have a larger history in LA than any other team
Raiders started a cultural golden age in Los Angeles
Rams were just a team in LA nobody can deny this they were just a team that had its moments but ownership continued to sabotage them at every opportunity which is sad.

No Stadium. TV Deals now werent as insanely lucrative as they were in the 90s. In the 80s and early 90s, you may have been better off to capture and move to a smaller market where you could build a cheap stadium, and you could be the talk of the town as opposed to dealing with the spotlight and pressure and cost of playing in the LA market.

Now, in the year 2016, the money is more than enough to compensate for any negatives that may come along with that, and now the smaller markets don't have that same appeal as the product is so easily accessible.

Both Georgia(ram owner) and Stan wanted a stadium but wanted a lot of money from the city
LA said no so they packed up and tried their luck in Anahiem
Same situation and there is the creation of the STL Rams .

Raiders is a very similar situation with an added problem
Television stations wanted two things from Al Davis
1. Money
2. The coliseum(a 91,000 seated stadium) to be filled up to 75% in order to prevent a black out , the average team can muster up 50,000+
Then add the fact that Al wanted a stadium and despite LA offering him one only wanted to have al Davis promise that he'll allow another tenant(in this case the Rams although I don't think they ever disclosed who) in his stadium
Al said fuck that and Oakland promised him a stadium as long as he shares with the A's for now

As everybody can see Oakland never fulfilled their promise and the raiders play in the worst football stadium ever

Neutral Patriots fan here.

I think the Chargers are the best team to move to LA

I mean, it's not like San Diego people can't root for an LA team, right? It's the same state. Or maybe I'm ignorant here. Plus they have no Super Bowls, so there's no odd "we get to claim the history of a totally different team" shit either.

A St. Louis fan would have no reason to root for the LA Rams. That's like a Hartford Whalers fan rooting for the Carolina NHL team.

I don't get this shit why not just add another team to rather than relocating? The NFL is fucking huge why lose a market when you can just add an expansion team?

San Diego people have this little brother mentality with the exception being they aren't looking up to big brother but rather down.

They believe SD has a city culture when in reality it is just a minor city that has lost a basketball team , soon a football team and eventually a baseball team all because they're the biggest fairweather west of the Mississippi

1. Dilutes the talent pool of players even more
2. Requires them to add 1-2 more franchises of staff members onto the league payrolls
3. Would requirement logistic realignment. NFL has a real comfy 32 team set up with an easily followable, set, and self creating schedule and rules related to them. Adding one or two teams fucks everything up.

Well in the case of Atlanta, the state of Georgia owns and operates the Georgia Dome. It was primarily financed with public funds. The state of Georgia will also own and operate the new Mercedes Benz stadium.

The city of Atlanta financed a portion of the new stadium with the hotel/motel tax. This is a tax paid primarily by out of state visitors. The funds from this tax are then used to pay for infrastructure, etc. that will further propagate tourism.

So, in our (Atlanta's) case, Georgia actually makes money, what percentage I do not know, on events held at the Georgia Dome and will make money at the new stadium. And that's direct money, not money from taxes associated with these events.

There was uproar here when they approved use of motel/hotel tax funds to finance part of the new stadium. Idiots bitched and said that money should be used for schools! Well, not only is that not legally possible, it also goes against the entire taxes' purpose.

In sum, in at least one instance the use of public funds is justified because they will actually own and operate the stadium and make money doing so, far surpassing their initial investment in the long run.

The city and county actually owned and operated the Braves stadium for 32 years. They paid for the Olympic stadium in 1996, leased it to the Braves for 20 years, and are now about to sell it to a nearby state university.

For all the shit this city catches, they aren't dummies when it comes to stadium deals. They told the Braves to fuck right off when the Braves tried to essentially extort them into paying for a new stadium.

Comic Con has already expressed displeasure at Cory Briggs's Citizens Initiative, and has said that the noncontinuous convention center expansion it paves the way for would not retain Comic Con any more than anything else currently being done.
To stay relevant to the thread however, Mark Fabiani was said to be texting Scott Kaplan of The Mighty 1090 AM, and expressing his displeasure at Cory Briggs having chosen to move his target voting date on the Initiative from May to November which disrupts a hypothetical scenario of the Chargers staying and getting the ball rolling on a new stadium within one year. Kaplan's take was that the only reason he'd give a shit was if he really was unsure they'd have LA which contrasts with everything he's said thus far. Then, a memer of Save our Bolts called into Kaplan's show and reported that Fabiani had reached out to their organization and sought to meet with them for reasons unknown, but reasons that could only result in their being used as a mouthpiece for his agenda, which they most likely wouldn't do unless his message had something to do with getting the fans back on the side of the organization, which would only happen if they weren't going to LA. Maybe its a contingency plan. Maybe it isn't. Regardless, Fabiani wavering is the surest sign in my book that the Chargers moving to LA is far from a sure thing.

You're divided a fan base up entirely too much. Giant cities like Chicago and Atlanta do fine with just one team. Big states like Texas also operate normally with only two, California does not need four teams in relative vicinity of each other like that, especially three playing out of one stadium give other states their own teams already like many of the southern states of some of the plains/mountain states.

16 outta 32 teams literally half of league is already located in a state with another team in it. What's the point? Spread teams around more, give cities pure fanbases.

For shits and giggles I ran some numbers. The Braves automatically owe $2.5 million a year for the rights to lease Turner field from Atlanta. They also have to give up 8.25% of revenue.

Using 2015 as an example, the city of Atlanta made nearly $25 million off of the lease.

That was one year of a 20 year lease on a building that cost them $232 million and that they just sold to a private developer/state school as part of a $300 million dollar plan.

So, not only did Atlanta make money from the sell, they made money from the lease, and they will continue to make money, albeit far less, from taxes associated with the development.

For what it's worth, the Braves wanted $150 million in renovations for a new 15 year lease. So, yeah, perhaps the city of Atlanta could have made more money but they did make a lot more money back than they spent to build it.

That doesn't even factor into the $5.4 billion that the Olympics brought in.

Rest of the U.S. are you even trying?

In 2014 the Dome created $26.6 million in additional state tax revenue, $21.5 million in sales tax revenue, and $7.6 million in hotel/motel tax revenue.

Even with renovations, Georgia has made a killing from the Dome. And those numbers above don't even factor in leasing agreements with the Atlanta Falcons or NCAA.

The Braves played it like Atlanta didn't care about them. Oddly enough the new Braves stadium is still in the city of Atlanta and the city will still collect massive tax revenues from it.
