A player will never get as much as they could because a team doesn't want to blow their wage budget on a single player and then have to get a bunch of shitters, so someone who's worth (for example, I don't know NFL salaries) 300k/wk will get from any given team max 100k/wk so it frees up spots for the rest of the team to not be shitters

A huge disparity in skill will lead to a low disparity of wage in comparison because teams can't afford to give someone more than a set % of their wage budget
